The last time we wrote about Castaway Paradise, the free-to-play Facebook and iOS game that combines elements of Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, we said that the game might come to Wii U. That's right, folks! It's been a while since Castaway Paradise's 2014 release, and though it never came out on Wii U (to the chagrin of all five of us who owned one), it's finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch.
The game has seen re-releases on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, as well as a Windows launch in 2015. Now, it's on a Nintendo system for the very first time, and although no release date has been officially mentioned, Harvest Moon fansite Fogu says to expect the game "sometime this spring".
Castaway Paradise does look an awful lot like Animal Crossing, and the official website even has the tagline "it's like Animal Crossing!" but apparently Nintendo isn't bothered. Maybe the seven years it took to bring the game to Switch were spent assuring Nintendo that they're not trying to poach their customers?
So, what do you think? Worth a look, or just an AC clone? Let us know in the comments.

HAHA even the bridges rivers, town hall, dig spots, characters, literally everything looks like ACNH, good tag line.
@FroZtedFlakerZz To be fair, Castaway Paradise was a thing before we even knew about New Horizons.
The Animal Crossing comparisons are obviously fair though.
Somehow Animal Crossing on the Wii and 3DS looks better?
I'll stick with the proper Animal Crossing, not bored of it quite yet
I'd give it a try, but I'm not a fan of that art style. Wild World looks better than this
Oh l see how it is. Nintendo isn't bothered by this game only. 🙄
One question do you get different choices of island look.
@FroZtedFlakerZz Actually more like WW
This was trying to copy Newleaf I'm pretty sure, since it came around that time period. (Still probably better than New Horizons honestly.)
If it’s free I will try it if it’s not ok stick with ACNH
It sure looks like a mobile game. And that's not a compliment. :/
It's not devoid of charm, just seems rather pointless when I have New Horizons. Doesn't look like it does anything different.
I thought this game was abandoned. Are the developers actually still around, or is this some new developer that has obtained the rights to the game and are trying to bring it back?
Finally everyone hating on animal crossing can stop playing it and play this instead... right?!
Always happy to see more of these types of games. I know the iOS one was abandoned so I never tried it, hopefully it is a good fit for switch.
Another mobile port, whats the likely outcome this will be £15 or above on Switch?
It's ofc inspired by AC.
But can't wait for new little ACNH fans to say they copied NH, when this one originally released in 2014.
Yes, a lot like AC which should be a good thing for fans that like this genre, not just the fans if a name.
Also slight inspiration of HM games considering there is farming. Which is not apart of AC.
Less you count the pumpkins in ACNH which are useless all year, except for the tiny event.
But again, this did come out long ago.
I own it on PS4 and PC. And the dev directly told me that this will be more improved and optimized since they got permission to fully take over from the other original dev they worked with.
So I'm excited to see this on Switch and in all honesty it fits well on Switch. ❤️👍
