I would love Jedi Fallen Order more than anything but this does intrigue me, I had never heard of it till recently so I''ll have to check it out a bit more

Jedi order would have to take a huge downgrade and expect even then would be nearly unplayable, republic commando is a great game and I welcome it on the switch.

Maybe it you want those types of games buy another console or pc as on the whole when ported don't turn out well

Hopefully we don’t see a delay like we did with Episode 1 Racer. I’m looking forward to revisiting this one.

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but Republic Commando was a really fun game. Not enough to buy it again, I still have my original copy, but I wouldn't be opposed to a sequel.

I've got a bad feeling about this Joking aside, the force maybe strong with this one?? However, the force would be stronger with remakes of all the star wars rogue squadrons on the switch!!!!!

1. Switch doesn't support Frostbite and Jedi Fallen Order as is is probably one of the most graphic intensive games to the point where it's kind of unstable even on PS4/Xbox One and even PC to an extent as someone who's played it

2. Don't talk ***** about Republic Commando this game is goated

I’m all for this and very happy this is getting another release, one of my favorite all time FPS. Hopefully fans of the genre and/or Star Wars fans that missed it the first time will give it a try.

@Mr-Fuggles777 Um, this and Fallen Order aren't mutually exclusive. They're being worked on by different studios.

@RiasGremory Oh I haven't forgotten. They said Spring 2021 was their current projected release window. Cant wait to see how their "open galaxy" works.

This is cool and all, but I really can't wait to hear more info on the KotoR project Aspyr's has been working on. Will it be a current-gen port of KotoR I&II or a full on KotoR III?

Actually, Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville is a Frostbite engine game, so when you say that Switch doesn't support that engine, eh....

This really should've been in the Direct instead of Stubbs the Zombie.

I'll probably get this. I know people love it, and I like first person shooters and Star Wars.

Though I still doubt Switch is getting something like Battlefield V or anything. Any graphical downgrades PvZ has will probably be hidden well with the exaggerated art direction of that game that can't be hidden so well in something like Battlefield where everything is meant to look as photorealistic as possible

@Mr-Fuggles777 Many of these old Star Wars games are coming to other platforms as well. Aspyr seems to be handling the backlog of LucasArts. They have NOTHING to do with newer Star Wars games, that's on EA, Ubisoft and whomever else has a license from Disney.

How is the single player?

@suikoden Fallen Order could use a cloud server and be fully playable on Switch and along with games like battlefield would be a good initiative for something like EA play to come across to the system as a streaming service.

I do have other consoles but would be nice for some bigger games to come across to Switch.

@progx it's always good to have more star wars, it's just a shame we don't get the newer entries on Switch.

Never played this! Looks good. Very mid-2000s, with obvious Half Life and Halo influences. Will be interesting to compare with 1995's Dark Forces, which is a more Doom-like flavor.

Great game. Played it on PC in 2008. The banter between the squad is great and some levels (such as boarding the abandoned cruiser) are especially memorable. It’s also the grittiest SW game I’ve played (and I’ve played nearly all of them!)

@Mr-Fuggles777 Yeah the next gen consoles running the game through back compat from what I heard are actually pretty fine but on PS4 Pro/One X and especially the base consoles there's still a lot of frame stuttering, some slowdown and pretty noticeable drops

If I recall correctly, Respawn doesn't use Frostbite. Fallen Order was either Unreal Engine (most likely) or the Source Engine like Respawn used on both TitanFall games and currently uses on Apex Legends.

I dont know why it has seemed Bioware was forced to use Frostbite while Respawn wasn't. Or so behind the scenes reports claim.

Perhaps Anthem and ME Andromeda wouldn't have had such problematic development if Bioware was able to use something other than Frostbite, which according to many articles I've read, is a major pain in the A** to develop on.

I read rumors somewhere not long ago, that Kotor may be getting a remaster or remake. Don't quote me on that, but I know my brother would be ecstatic if it's true.

@Mr-Fuggles777 I played Fallen Order on the Xbox One S and, while it was playable, it was very buggy with performance.issues. If a game barely runs on the base PS4 or Xbox One it has no chance of running well on the current Switch.

Replayed this on Xbox one, i didn't think much of it. And it looks woeful for a 2005 game. I had a few friends that "loved" this game, so there is someone who will buy it. I much prefer pretty much every other Star Wars game from that generation. Rogue squadron 2 & 3, Jedi Knight 2 & 3, Bounty Hunter, Clone Wars, Battlefront 1 & 2 and Knights of the old Republic 1 & 2. Who knows maybe i'll give Republic Commando another go. I'd much rather see more new games now though.

Im glad that they are putting this out but I really want them to port over Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith. I used to sneak out of bed at night to play that online back in the day. Doing so required wrapping a blanket around my external dial-up modem so I didn’t wake up my parents.

No mention of multiplayer??? I was under the impression the original was a multiplayer game, but I’ve seen no mention of this for the switch or even crossplay?

@karatekid1612 Yes! Rogue Squadron! Those are really great games! I remember playing the second one on the Gamecube, it was a blast even if I hadn't seen the Star Wars movies.

The game runs on UE4 which runs on the NS. There will be a downgrade but I still think it is possible for it to run on switch.

I loved the book series that loosely tied into to this game. I've always thought Karen Traviss contributed interesting perspectives to the Star Wars mythos. It's too bad her stuff was essentially retconned, even before Disney came along.

Loved the book that came with my copy of the game way back when, enjoyed the whole book series that came after. The game itself was good, but short. I'll be picking it up if the price is right.

All that said. GIVE US KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC ON SWITCH!

I would truly love to see the PS3/Xbox 360 versions of Force Unleashed on the Switch, but that's in EA's ball court.

@Than64 Yeah that was heartbreaking Those series of books were a obsession to me. They were such a unique fresh perspective of Star Wars novels at the time. Especially me being so into the EU with all the various novels/series (NJO & Legacy were amazing).

This is very exciting news and will be a real surprising treat for those playing it for the first time. Be sure to give it a honest chance because I remember it starts out kinda slow but really kicks into high gear once you get all your squad together. I played this game a lot back in the day and loved every minute of it.

I beat the campaign so many times I don't really have a huge desire to do it again. However I plan on purchasing this to support the team to encourage any future output for the Switch

Ah, Republic Commando, Pod Racers, KOTOR, Rogue Squadron and Battlefront 1&2: The golden age of Star Wars games. ☺️

Really hope Aspyr has more SW ports to announce for Switch.

It's funny, but Disney have pretty much said none of these games are canon. Funnier still, I don't accept it lol.

I grew up with this game so I am excited for it to come on the switch. My dog bit the og dvd for the Xbox and I have not found another one.

@Snatcher the story mode is solo but there is spilt- screen where you battle each other up to four players.

@redpanda0310 The Stars Hunter was the game in the Nintendo direct and is a new game to all console. Republic commando is a game from 2005 .

@Mr-Fuggles777 because this very old game is also good and even some say it's better than fallen order. If I were you I would give it a try first before playing the newer ones.

Imo these older star wars games were much more fun

One of my favorite Xbox exclusives, there will for sure be a physical copy. Can't wait to play this again!!!

@Snatcher no hate, would just be nice seeing some newer third party games on Switch, ive literally not even switched it on this year and I could do with an excuse to take it out of the drawer - they could easily do something like battlefront as a cloud game, it require a decent connection to play anyway.

@gameboy-x @Snatcher Unfortunately though it looks like this release is going to be only the single player campaign and no multiplayer of any kind. This is Aspyr's response on Twitter to anyone that asks about multiplayer:
"It will contain just the single player experience from the original release."

A bummer but I'll still purchase just to continue support so they can continue these releases.

This had better run at 1080p docked/720p handheld and hold a rock solid 60 fps, no excuses! If it runs well, consider me sold.

Great! I just bought it on Steam about 3 months ago for a few dollars. Same with Ep1 Racer - that arrived on Switch not long after buying on sale on Steam. I'll get Ep1 Racer one day on Switch upon a decent discount.

Why do they have different voices for different troopers? Also size differences?
Are they not all clone troopers?

@Grumblevolcano Why? Stubbs is a classic as well as Republic Commando. Replacing Stubbs with Commando wouldn't have changed how mediocre the direct was.

@Kang81 i would advise giving up on the idea of a sequal since star wars games are now prioritized on being cannon unlike the past, and since this game is non-canon to the series now then it will almost assuredly never receive a sequel.

Pleased to see. I hope they give us KOTOR and KOTOR II next. The best and most immersive Star Wars games..

@Mr-Fuggles777 Both those games are EA games and EA doesn't like Nintendo. Plus having this game come out doesn't stop those games. We could have all three if EA weren't such d**ks. I have Fallen Order on my Xbox and will get this game on the Switch because it is not only a great Star Wars game but one of the best FPS I've ever played and now it's f-ing PORTABLE.... SOLD!

@AlecOfChaos if you have it on your xbox it's already portable via remote play, as is Fallen Order.

@Mr-Fuggles777 Tried remote play and it sucks ass! At least with the switch I don't have to worry about a steady connection. Nah you can keep your remote play and I'll just game on my Switch and use my Xbox occasionally for the odd game I can't play on my Switch.

@AlecOfChaos I've never had any issues with remote play, I was playing Destiny 2 in bed the other night while the Mrs was watching the TV.
My switch has pretty much just become an exclusive machine - especially after I picked up Immortals FR and how blurry everything looked, really regret not getting it on another system.

@Karatecanine I not sure if your question is answered yet but all clones in the game the same build. But they do have different voices. Like how Sev takes deeper than other clones do.
