Just yesterday, we heard about the police in Essex having to have a word with a few men "aged 30+" about breaking the COVID rules to catch Pokémon in the AR game, Pokémon GO. According to a tweet from the Southend Police, these men were going around making "non-essential" trips to public places across Rochford. The tweet was quickly deleted after people in the replies attempted to correct the police, saying that the men were simply "exercising", which is allowed under the new rules. Hmm.
Well, it turns out those men weren't alone. Now, Warwickshire Police have issued a £200 fine to a man who travelled 14 miles - from Bedworth to Kenilworth - just to catch Pokémon. The BBC News article doesn't state which Pokémon exactly he was trying to capture, but unless there's a new Pokémon called "COVID Vaccine", we doubt the police would have deemed it as a worthy trip.
Have you been playing Pokémon GO in lockdown? How hard has it been to catch things when you're stuck indoors? Chat to us in the comments.

Honestly people. Work in the NHS. It's not worth it. Put the phone down and step away from the Pokémon. (Honestly Covid is awful. Seen some nasty stuff. Stay safe.)
Just using Pokemon Go as a cover: They were all actually doggers.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.... and I don’t mean PoGo, it’s not a bad game - was addicted to it for the first two years.
Chill people stay in be safe.
It’s not long until Mario 3D world and Bowsers Fury.
Honestly travelling 14 miles to catch a Pokemon in a game when you have been told not to go outside too much just shows you how some have strange priorities.
This is just another example of Nintendo's greed and evil intent.
My case. It is rested.
@Lordplops I mean, yeah, but still..... Why go all that way to walk your pooch? I mean, that's the very epitome of something that could be done locally, and I'm sure man's best friend doesn't m.....
Oooooooooh, I see.
Imagine risking your health and life to try and catch a f*cking Pikachu on your Phone.
I love going out and I love gaming, but is it really worth it for some screechy colourful thing on your phone?
I know you can go out for little walks, and Pokemon GO is a massively successful game, but if someone said to me “Martin, fancy coming on a 14 mile walk? This park has a rare Togepi!” I’d message back saying “Don’t be f*cking stupid. Put down your phone & think of your health.”
In other species, this is the equivalent of thinning the herd.
This guy I assumed had travelled too far from his house. If you are walking normally and have your phone in your hand playing Pokémon Go, texting or maybe even reading a reading work email I don't see the problem.
@Enigk Finally, someone with common sense. It’s not COVID you should be afraid of, it’s the draconian governors who are brainwashingforcing you to stay indoors.
@SeantheDon29 honestly? Be sh*t scared of Covid. Nasty bloody virus. Yes the traveling was the issue. Transmission is the issue. Just hold fire for a while. Get vaccinated. Then hopefully everything should get back to some normality. I bloody hate the government but they are sadly doing what's best ( but sadly all too late.)
Better this than the jerks who go into grocery stores without masks and yell at workers and other customers screaming about "freedom and oppression" and other things I decline to repeat.
There are countless people who still think the pandemic is made up or actually think the "real" tragedy are the stay home orders. And they'll keep saying that nonsense right up until someone they care about dies horribly.
I'd rather they remain fools than lose someone though.
Ninja not approved. C’mon, even ninjas wear masks for protection!
@SeantheDon29 Oh you're one of them, if Covid has proving anything its that humans lack common sense, are dumb as hell and are very very selfish.
@Fandabidozi I bet his kids are into Pokemon. All 151 of them. His kids, not the Pokemon.
And they're probably in a much better place than the people staying all day inside their neighborhoods.
For that matter, did anybody see Wuhan on New Year's Eve?
@BloodNinja They actually wear them to conceal their faces.
I think pokemon go is a crap game. But, I'm all for people enjoying the outdoors. Screw the lockdowns and screw the police. This isn't the plague. The government is doing more harm than the virus
@backup368 Hey, don't "well actually" an actual ninja! (pst look behind you) I'm just joking around.
NINJA APPROVED
Getting tired of the lockdown myself. Not everyone can afford to just stay home all the time, plus, it kinda wears you down after a while.
"You're one of them!!!" The rabid, irrational, flagrantly ignorant otherism is so thick, you could cut it with a knife. The virus that is the modern day cult mentality in the west will prove far more damaging, far-reaching, and longer-lasting than any coronavirus could ever hope to achieve.
@Menardi I wonder if you would feel this if a family member died from it. You're the type of person who thinks the Moon Landing is fake, US caused 9/11 and any other crackpot theory what goes against the grain. As i said Covid has shown the stupidity levels in people and how selfish they people are.
@WallyWest Yes, I am apparently an evil subhuman conspiracy theorist, my entire worth as a human being is invalid based on a fairly innocuous two sentence thought posted in the comment section of a video game article. Please seek help, my friend. Back here on planet Earth, I can at least appreciate that you like Patricia Summersett's Zelda VA work. She gets too much flak for it, her voice work is great in Breath of the Wild and especially in Age of Calamity. She really deserves better than she's gotten.
@SeantheDon29 Oh, believe me (and you can, as I work in a setting that completely validates my opinions on the subject), you absolutely should be afraid of Covid. Put aside your personal safety for a second, and consider the wider impact on society as a whole. I know that may be hard for you, but give it a fair go for me. The virus is moving SO QUICKLY, that's it's thwarting almost every effort we make to get in front of it. It's mutations are now so rapid that younger generations are being struck down harder than before, 1500 people died in the UK alone yesterday, bringing the real world figure over 100,000 dead. This IS NOT the flu, it's much nastier and people are nowhere near protected enough at present for my colleagues to cope in their respective care settings. People are being asked to stay home for a reason, and while it is mostly the fault of the government for moving at a snails pace to tackle it head-on, it's equally the dingbats that decry such measures and refuse to comply with efforts such as social distancing and masking. PEOPLE'S ATTITUDES are equally to blame here, and tougher measures to ensure compliance are LONG OVERDUE. Call that what you will, but don't be surprised if, in turn, people lump you in with the absolute morons that you see on YouTube or whatever every single day. Let's all keep the world moving, and sacrifice just a bit more of our personal lives and freedom to ensure a rapid recovery from all of this nonsense. If we don't, you can 100% guarantee that this will go on for months, if not years, longer than anyone wants or anticipated.
