Obsidian Entertainment has officially revealed its first expansion for The Outer Worlds. Peril on Gorgon is coming to the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 9th September, so what about a Switch release?
According to the publisher Private Division, Nintendo's hybrid system will also be receiving this DLC in the future (thanks, Nintendo Life user Raccoonius):
IGN and The Washington Post support this:
IGN: It will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game on September 9. A Switch version will follow at a later date.
The Washington Post: For those hoping this DLC comes to Switch, Obsidian confirmed that they are having an “open conversation” about it, and plan to port the DLC to the device at a later, unspecified date.
Here's what players can expect when it does arrive, along with the official trailer (above):
A severed arm and a mysterious message lead the crew of the Unreliable to the Gorgon Asteroid, formerly the site of one of Halcyon’s most ambitious and disastrous scientific undertakings, now a lawless den of monsters and marauders. Wealthy recluse Minnie Ambrose tasks the crew with finding answers about Dr. Olivia Ambrose, her mother and the doomed project’s disgraced director, but they are soon ensnared in an intrigue that will change the colony forever.
The last update for Switch owners was back in June when Private Division said a patch was in the works, and the team at Virtuos was looking to further improve the Nintendo version's performance.

Wow this is awesome news! Just finished the game and my first though was actually “where’s the DLC?” I know it’s not confirmed and it could take a couple months for it to come, but I’ll just stay here and wait patiently.
Just playing this on PC Game Pass for $5 ended up being the right decision.
Seems like they just can’t get it together when it comes to The Switch.
They should finish porting the base game first.
@Agramonte I feel like telling PC gamers my Switch playing habits are, and PlayStation gamers what my favorite mobile titles are. I figure they'll care greatly and be very interested in what I have to say. Do you have any recommendations where I might go?
That's great, even if the Switch port isnt really worth it compared to the Xbox and PS4 versions. Hopefully the port is improved by the time the dlc comes to Switch, because I'm still interested in this
@JimmySpades
So passive aggressive.. Everyone knows the Switch port of The Outer Worlds is broken and needs work compared to other platforms. Nothing wrong with mentioning that here.
@JimmySpades Anywhere.
PC Gamers can be Switch players, PS4 can be mobile players and so on. Just say what your gaming habits are. No need to filter.
@JimmySpades It appears like you're being snarky to a guy for making a videogame-related comment.... in a comment section.
Could they fix the visuals, lag and other basic functions of the core game first? The Switch port as it stands now is an embarrassment.
You're welcome everyone! That's my tweet lol.
I still enjoy playing The Outer Worlds on my Switch so I can't wait for the DLC. Of course it's a big downgrade graphically compared to my Xbox One X version but it's still the full Outer Worlds experience on the go, plus I love the added gyro aiming.
@Raccoonius Oh, fantastic - thank you! I've credited your NL username in the story.
@Liam_Doolan Thanks! Was quite surprised to see myself when I clicked on the article.
I don’t understand the hate the Switch port gets. Yes....yes...yes...I know it’s a little choppy during some in-game moments but to call it straight up broken is ridiculous. In my 4-5hrs in so far I have never had a game-breaking issue. I just haven’t gone back yet cause of jumping to some other games.
Not every Switch port is going to be flawless like Alien Isolation, Wolfenstein New Colossus, Witcher, and on and on. Don’t you people (the port rippers only) understand it’s amazing these ports are on Switch, period? What do you expect? All of them to be smooth just cause some are? It’s not that easy, technically for all games just cause some were. I digress, my venting is done. 🤦♂️
@Agramonte @JimmySpades I think it is kind for Agramonte to remind people the game doesn't really work. After seeing the video (of footage on a different platform) some people might accidentally think the game works and waste some money. They shouldn't be making dlc when they haven't sorted the base game on switch out yet.
Great news, I’ve enjoyed the first 8 hours of the game so far but when I heard a patch was coming I stopped playing to wait for that. Nice the switch isn’t being forgotten
We all know the game is a bit of a mess at the moment and quite frankly, I would have been happier it it was massively delayed if it meant that they would have released a better product. Having said that, the DLC is an incredible addition
@Agramonte if you can and don't want portability the $5 version is the way to go!
I'm still hopeful the Switch version will get some performance patches. Its happened on several other games so no need to panic about this port.
@Moistnado well hopefully this will give the team that worked on the port more time to work on general performance. I'm assuming Obsidian outsourced switch development to a 3rd Party.
I'd definitely be interested in this, I enjoyed the base game so if the DLC is substantial i'll probably buy it.
I just wish the full game was on the cartridge instead of just a link to download it from eShop
So glad I waited on this.
When they decide to release the whole game, GOTY or whatever they want to call it I will buy it.
Publishers really have no shame these days.
@Bunkerneath hold up. Please clarify this, is there a cart at all? Or is it just a download link?
I don’t know what he’s talking about. I have it. It’s a cartridge. @Rypopo
@Rypopo It is a cart, but hardly holds anything, to play the game you have to do a massive download, so keep a spare micro SD around
Yes, the Switch port is rough and ugly, but it's still quite playable and a reasonably enjoyable experience. Hopefully the announced patch will improve things, but I'm not expecting miracles.
At any rate, is this DLC a continuation of the main campaign, a standalone story, or does it simply add new quests to the existing game?
@Rypopo Game is sold on a cartridge, but you need to download about 6GB of data before you can play.
@Bunkerneath, @CTmatic, @Mountain_Man, thanks for clarifying! If I were to buy this game, I'd be one to sell it after.
@Wargoose perhaps they could have sorted performance prior to release? Buying a game is not a kickstarter investment. People buying this 60 dollar mess expected a AAA game, a finished game.
@Moistnado My guess is its a studio contracted for 6 months or so, to get the game running as best they can on Switch. The Outer Worlds is a game designed for PS4/Xbox One. If it runs atrociously on Switch reviews will reflect that, and if you don't read reviews before buying a game, well thats kinda your own fault.
I'm kinda impressed they got it running at all, Ys VIII has choppy performance on switch and that's a port of a Vita game. Just to put things in perspective
The potential is certainly there for Outer Worlds to be a really nice looking, smooth running game on the Switch, but it would have taken a lot more time and resources than the developer/publisher were apparently willing to put into it.
@Wargoose To put things in perspective, i'm sure there are worse ports out there, but this one is bad, very bad. It is definitely up there on the top ten list of worst ports on switch.
