Fancy a new Game Boy Color game? Did you purchase Tobu Tobu Girl Deluxe last year? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you might just be interested in POWA! - the second Dot Matrix Series physical release by First Press Games.
POWA! is a newly-developed action-platform GBC title by Aiguanachein and is similar to beloved genre-classics like Kirby's Dream Land. The gameplay is easy to learn but hard to master, and there's a good variety of level themes, obstacles and an "ever-increasing" difficulty curve to keep you engaged from start to finish.
The game comes with backward-compatibility, allowing you to play the title on classic Game Boy hardware, five levels along with a challenging boss fight in each one, super-cute presentation, a bopping soundtrack, plenty of replay value thanks to varying difficulty modes and a time score mode. Last but not least, it utilises the Super Game Boy features when played on a SNES or Super Famicom.
POWA! is targeting a November release and pre-orders are now live. You can select from a regular edition, limited edition and collector's edition. Each version is also available as an English and Japanese version. Here's a look at the best offering:
Would you be interested in purchasing a new Game Boy Color game in 2020? If you're still not sure, you can try out the free demo. Let us know in the comments if you'll be adding this one to your Game Boy collection.

I love the DMG games and all the homebrew releases and rom-hacks that are still going strong.
I really hope we get NSO Game Boy in September. Even though I think that my overall weird taste will not really be represented in the games they would release on it.
@Yanina The original Game Boy had some absolute gems. Donkey Kong is incredible, one of the best puzzle platformers ever despite lulling you in at the beginning into thinking it’s an arcade port. I’d also love Gargoyle’s Quest, that was great. The only problem is I don’t see them putting on Link’s Awakening or Pokemon because there’s remakes of them on Switch already.
@nessisonett If they thought that the originals would have taken away from their sales, wouldn't they have taken Metroid 2, Link's Awakening, and Pokemon Gen 1 off of the 3DS virtual console? If they're willing to take down full Wii U games, I think that they'd be willing to take down a few 3DS virtual console games.
@Yanina I would rather see gba games and they’ve already put them on Wii U VC and almost all of the games we currently have were on the Wii U or the SNES classic. I have to admit that also means Mother 3 could come to the Japanes service and I would’ve ecstatic to have that on the switch😂
@nessisonett I have a huge fascination with the DMG games. What they sometimes made possible inside the obvious restrictions is just amazing.
So whatever they put on NSO will interest me just because of my fascination with the original system.
That doesn't mean I don't have a very specific wishlist:
Sure that will be there
Maybe. I hope. Would play that so much.
Same as Qix
Probably not. Would be my main dream release though. (I know the NES one got ported, but I prefer the GB version)
Probably not. But maybe I can figure out how to get japanese DLC for the Namcot Collection and get the NES one.
Was never translated officially. Played it as a physical rom hack release of the fan translation. Such a funny and amazing game that a lot of people would enjoy.
@Blooper987 Would not fight GBA either. I do think it is not as iconic by miles as the original DMG though. And GBA would not fit as good in the lineup next to NES and SNES. At least not before the original Game Boy.
How the hell do i find a gameboy in 2020?
@Snatcher Online, local game shops, possibly CEX or charity shops if you’re lucky.
@Snatcher Oh the modding and restoring community is going as strong as ever before. If you go down that rabbithole you will be amazed.
This is basically my DMG for example (just without the AUX):

@Yanina Now that’s a good looking Game Boy. I always wanted a modded GBA with an actual backlight, I prefer the purple original one to the SP or Micro.
I'd be keen if they bring these over to Switch.
I love Game Boy games. The aesthetic, the sounds, everything. I don't quite "get" the nostalgia factor for the NES (most of the games haven't aged well, IMO), but I would buy virtually any GB game if they were to release or port them to Switch, but almost certainly if they were issued a compilation cartridge release. For example, I would love to own the Gen I-II GB/GBC Pokémon games on a single Switch cartridge, and I'm sure many would buy a Switch for such a release alone.
I've recently become addicted to the Pokémon TCG on GBC all over again, and I've finally gotten around to completing the English fan translation of the sequel (which I had previously played but dropped some years ago, and previous to that, I tried to play the Japanese version).
@nessisonett Thanks for the help I i want a gameboy I know were to go.
I’m waiting out for a Switch port. 😂
i'll give the demo a try to see if it's something that i'm willing to pay for.
So it’s actually a Game Boy game as well as a Game Boy Color game.
Between this and the LRG reprints of Shantae and Xtreme Sports, the GBC is seeing a lot of love this year. In 2020. That's wild.
Why isn’t this coming to PS5?!
@Snatcher Umm Ebay.
This looks really good, and the music is fantastic.
@TG16_IS_BAE PS5 is no longer GB backwards compatible.
so it can also play on the advance and sp
Looks like my kind of game, this one!
Tobu Tobu Girl is cute and all, but I'm a sucker for platform adventures. :3
Tobu Tobu Girl is awesome, so this one will probably be fantastic too!
Gameboy color was actually a reasonably powerfull handheld. A lot of the graphics hold up to this day.
@YANDMAN I’m still gonna try to jam my carts in the DVD drive, you can’t stop me YOU’RE NOT MY DAD 😄
Honestly I might buy this. I was immediately sold when I saw the main character in scuba uniform in the water. I can’t refuse the cuteness.
@doctorhino yes, it was a reasonable upgrade over the original GB in terms of CPU. I think the biggest limitation was the screen resolution. But games could still look nice and run well. This game looks like an example of that.
it does'nt look great
@TG16_IS_BAE Look at my profile picture......You don't remember me son?
Dat video game tune doe. Lovely.
@YANDMAN I LOVE YOU SIR
Looks pretty nice. See you on Switch someday.
