Ever wanted to see how one of the Legend of Zelda franchise's most iconic locations, Lon Lon Ranch, would look inside Breath of the Wild's Hyrule? Well, friends, you're most certainly in luck.
Modder Waikuteru, who we featured on the site recently for an impressive attempt at placing Skyward Sword's Sandship dungeon inside Breath of the Wild's world, is back once again with a crack at Lon Lon Ranch. As you may well know, Lon Lon Ranch is a popular location most notably featured in Ocarina of Time, but it's also appeared in other games like The Minish Cap.
This mod recreates Ocarina's famous location in lovely HD, plonking it in an empty spot of Breath of the Wild's Hyrule Field. It even features that nostalgic music, Epona, Cuccos and more.
If you've played Breath of the Wild, you might have stumbled across a location called 'Ranch Ruins'. It's believed that these ruins are a nod to Lon Lon Ranch, which has seemingly been destroyed over time, so we like to think of this mod as a way of restoring the ranch's former glory.
A nice effort, huh? That music gets us every single time.

The proportions look spot on. Very well done
Would have been nice if they remade the model themselves, ripping old models ruins it for me.
It is cool seeing extra locations in Breath of the Wild though
Wow that is really well done.
Looks like Lon Lon Ranch. Doesn't really look like Breath of the Wild style Lon Lon Ranch.
I was hoping to see more of BotW's art and design sensibilities built into the general structure and concept of OoT's Lon Lon Ranch. Like BotW would have added a lot more character and subtle decor than was possible in OoT. And of course the models wouldn't be anywhere near as low poly. But it feels like it's just been made as a 1 to 1 replica as much as possible outside a few newer assets like the Cuckoo and Beedle. Still kinda cool I guess.
All these hacks are available for cash, nintendo shut them down please.
@Ogbert Exactly! It looks like the model was ripped straight from Ocarina of Time 3D - it's identical. Same for the Sand Ship mod they shared here too, just the same as the Wii Version.
If someone remakes old locations in BotW's style then I think it would be more impressive, this is a bit disappointing.
Honestly I am a bit tiered of all the mod news here at nintendolife....
I hope BotW2 has more memorable locations. Places like Lon Lon Ranch, Kakariko Village, Clock Town, Gerudo Valley, Pirate Fortress, etc are so memorable.
I feel like BotW is an amazing game overall but for me it's fairly lacking in memorable locations (at least proportionate to the map size).
I'll preface this by saying I'm a relative Zelda newbie and haven't played OoT to completion. But this really just looks like a boring generic ranch from any old game, hard to imagine from a neutral perspective how it could be considered such an iconic location for the series. But as I said I don't get the significance!
@sketchturner I agree. Breath of the Wild is a big open-world game but locations aren't memorable, I think that it's also related to the characters and their non-stories and the structure of the game which is designed around upgrading your weapons and armour to advance into Hyrule Castle and beat Ganon. It's somewhat hollow.
Very well done! hats off to the Modder.
@SegaBlueSky
The ranch itself was never particularly interesting. It's just a ranch.
What makes it memorable are the music and the location's significance within the story and flow of the game. It's where you find your horse, too.
Also worth noting is the ranch's placement in the map: it's in the middle of the otherwise empty (and, at night, dangerous) expanse of Hyrule Field.
So the ranch's function is more important than its form.
Can we get an HD Zelda collection already? I would dish out copious amounts of cash for a remastered OoT and MM.
@Kimyonaakuma exactly my thoughts. I’d love to see a remake of OoT.
I would so love a remake of Ocarina of time and majoras mask with the same engine of breath of the wild.
Ocarina of time is still one of a kind. Playing as a kid and growing up. Love that part, the ocarina itself i always hoped it would stay as a part of link, loved it, or the Dins Fire attack (loved it) farores wind and nayrus love.
In future zeldas i want those magical elements back. Also the fierce deity mask, man when i first found out about that mask i felt invinsible haha.
@sketchturner i hear ya, but IMO breath of the wild is pretty much video game perfection to me. Maybe a bit more voice acting/less text and less rain but other than that.... gold.
It looks really weird. Cool to see the location with reference to BotW's horizon, but the OoT3D textures jar so much with the BotW one. :/
Breath of the Wild 2 will be delectable!
Has this been recreated in the same location as the Lon Lon Ranch within the actual game? You know the ruins? That looked way bigger actually, I'd like to see someone restore that.
it's ok. but would loved to see a bit more trees there.. it's a bit abandon to me.. but then again on original it was quite plain too, but somehow I prefer the original N64 version. next
Looks very nice indeed.
