The Zelda: Breath of the Wild community has left us consistently bewildered and amazed ever since the game launched, and this latest mod continues that trend in style.
YouTube user and modder Waikuteru has shared a video of a new mod which places Zelda: Skyward Sword's Sandship dungeon inside Breath of the Wild's world. In a nice touch, it's wound up in Breath of the Wild's Gerudo Desert and looks particularly lovely thanks to some neat visual upgrades.
You can see Link discovering and running around the ship in the video below.
Of course, it doesn't actually function like the original dungeon - you can't have everything in life, right? - but it's fun seeing one of Skyward Sword's iconic landmarks rebuilt like this. Did someone say Skyward Sword HD for Switch?
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time we've seen someone put a Skyward Sword dungeon into Breath of the Wild. Make sure to take a look at how the game's Earth Temple looks with a Breath of the Wild-style upgrade, too.

Real dungeons are the only thing that Botw lacks to make it a complete masterpiece. I hope BotW2 fixes that
(But even without proper Dungeons BotW is one of the best games so far imo)
Awesome. It’s a shame it actually wasn’t in the game anyway. Guess it would be rotten by now. This game is truly amazing though
It looks way smaller in this game
Nintendo could do a dungeon Maker for Zelda a la Mario maker. Perhaps use the Links awakening game as a basis, but I'd wish for something more TP,SS or BotW. Imagine the endless possibilities with everyone making dungeons to play.
I love how when articles like this get posted, you don't have the anti-hacking/emulation crowd jumping down everyone's throat like "wE DoNT SuPpoRT pIRatES HErE!"
Goes to show they have no idea what hacking and modding is about in the first place.
That looks amazing!!
Hey Nintendo, you know you are making BotW 2? Thinking about putting this in?? I hope so
Skyward Sword was brilliant, only problem I found was Girahim was stupidly complicated bad guy.
But a switch HD re-make, where you can go back in time completely so all the dead robots in the desert can speak, would be amazing. Always found that sad
@SirAileron Yeah, but it is a pirate ship, so what did you expect? It's full of pirates.
Wii U emulation. Open-worlder with dungeon mods. 4K and 60 FPS. The newspiece your kidneys can feel.
@Bunkerneath
What should Nintendo take note of?
There is no game I want more on Switch than Skyward Sword HD.
Looks pretty cool for a wii model brought into a modern game!
Just makes me miss the timeshift stone mechanic though, I'd love it to be brought back seeming as they're really into Sheikah technology now with BotW.
@chiptoon Skyward Sword got boring real fast. I never liked it.
This was my favorite dungeon or whatever you'd call it in the game! It's stuff like this that makes me miss full on dungeons in zelda. BOTW was pretty impressive but those shrines were lame.
I liked Skyward sword better than BOTW. I know blasphemy but seriously i honestly think i did!
Skyward Sword had probably the best story in the entire series.
Too bad it was paired with some of the worst gameplay in the series history.
Skyward Sword is the worst game in the series for many reasons. It introduced a few good concepts like stamina, skydiving, and the addictive nature of the Goddess cubes, but almost everything else was lackluster or downright terrible.
I also don't think some people fully think through the technicalities of bringing an SSHD to the Switch. You have to put yourself in Nintendo's shoes and ask "is this financially viable?" SS relies heavily on motion controls, and we now have people who own just a Switch Lite, or people who prefer to play their Switch in handheld mode. They aren't about to start vigorously shaking their systems just to make Link swing his sword. Look at Super Mario Party, a title that requires separated joy con, and how Nintendo has abandoned any support for that game when it desperately needed DLC.
TL;DR: Considering how garbage SS was to begin with, and all the technical issues they would face by simply porting it to the Switch, I say it deserves a full remake along the lines of FFVII Remake, i.e. make drastic changes, remove most of the motion controls altogether (keep gyro aiming like BotW, gyro for skydiving) which means also overhauling all the motion-specific enemy weaknesses, etc. Just make it function more like a tried and true 3D Zelda.
LOL at that ladder climbing animation
I hate 4k. Still using a CRT as graphics are for suckers.
Skyward Sword has the best dungeons in the series.
I liked the temple, hated the boss. The boss was so lame in that temple in the original
@Panopticon Shhhhh, its ok having a low-tier opinion..
@Mother_Fan Care to elaborate?
Also, this video perfectly expresses many of the things SS did wrong, and many of the things it did right. It’s worth a watch.

make it a free update nintendo, your fans are wasting their talent worshiping you!
whoops assumed it actually did something, still a frustration of mine
Now thats something that is real zelda!
Having to re-explore many areas multiple time was what ruined skyward sword experience for me. I just can’t bring myself to replay it mainly for this reason. So many other great things about skyward sword though
But how am I suppose to get through it worth out Fi’s help???!!!
I approve of this. The fans know how to do what nintendont
@Panopticon
That's why Nintendo never released Ring Fit Adventure, or the Labo-kits. And the new Paper Mario also seems to take advantage of the Joy-con and motion controls. 🤔
This is amazing! Wouldn't mind something this large reappearing in the sequel!!
I really want an updated Skyward Swors HD remaster. Not a remake as its too soon but just as Wind Waker got an HD remaster from GC to WiiU, it's likely to expect a Wii to Switch remaster. Throw some quality of life improvements and you've got another million seller.
I trust Nintendo can make it work without motion controls. It wouldn't be the first game to adapt motion controls to normal mapped commands.
Even though I've still got my copy of SS and I can play it anytime on my Wii U. I wouldn't say no to a remaster on Switch. SS was my first Zelda game and see it all polished up would be amazing.
@MrBlacky All of your examples are games developed specifically for the Switch. SS was developed for the Wii and would require major surgery. Don't be thick.
@Panopticon
I don't quite understand what you mean. 🤔
Ring Fit Adventure is a game which isn't playable in handheld mode and Skyward Sword (if not downgraded) would also not be playable in handheld mode.
That's very impressive.
