We finally find ourselves in the month of May, meaning we're just a few weeks away from getting our grubby mitts on Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. If you're feeling hyped for the new release, make sure to check out the latest trailer above.
This time, we're invited to meet the main cast of the game - Shulk, Reyn, Fiora, Dunban, Sharla, Riki, and Melia. The video shows off each of the characters individually, giving us a chance to see and hear them all as they'll appear in the upcoming remaster.
We were also treated to a huge batch of new screenshots for the game just recently, with both the game's characters and environments being shown off. If you haven't already seen them, we'd urge you to take a look.
The game launches on 29th May. Let us know if you're really feeling it in the comments below.

I'm really feeling it!
It highlights the best character in the series, Riki. It's a great trailer.
Is that Melia's original English voice actor in the epilogue?
Its good to see Nintendo putting some effort into building hype up, maybe it sells really well. I remember when the original came out there was no hype from NOA and they let Gamestop jack the price up without repercussion.
For comparison, this is how that iconic shot looked in the original.
Whoever put that trailer together either knew how well known that shot was, or just recognised how good it is.
Hallelujah, it looks like they modified the lip syncing to line up with English words. That was something that bugged me in the original.
Such hype... Just a couple of weeks left... Come on!
@RupeeClock Melia looks so much better in the DE than in the original
In hindsight, I am so, SO glad I've waited to play this game. Already pre-ordered this, hopefully the game arrives in the mail on release day!
@abbyhitter
Unlikely. Melia was voiced by Jenna Coleman who was in Dr Who, Emmerdale, the 1st Captain America and a thing about Queen Victoria. Her stock has risen somewhat.
I also think it’s a new Rikki voice actor.
This looks outstanding... I have the one for 3DS. I do admit the battle banter and whatever else gets a tad annoying but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m so buyin this, having preordered it already. I just hope I can find time to give this the respect it deserves. I’m currently playing through Dark Souls 3.
Speaking of which, I wonder if we’ll ever get 2 or 3 ported over. 🧐
So glad to see the Western accounts push this game! Can't wait to jump in!
This is a very good trailer!
They don't need to sell me on this game. It's already a contender for my favorite game of all time! But as the very least, it's the best JRPG around. Or I suppose I should just say my personal favorite, but it would get my vote for best too.
As I've never played this game before, I personaly can't wait till May 29th.
While I won’t double dip (sunk 200 hours into the 3D version) I’m so glad this is being released for the Switch.
This opens up XC1 to a much bigger audience. For me personally I can safely say that Xenoblade was one of my finest gaming experiences and this release means that a lot more other players can enjoy the game like I did.
How are people expecting this to compare to XB2 in terms of gameplay and story?
@abbyhitter well the jury is still out on that one. It sounds very much like her to me, but people seem to be assuming it's not her as it doesn't sound exactly the same. It's been almost a decade since she voiced that character and her screen career has blown up since then. Could be that she just sounds a bit different now, if not they've found a damn good replacement.
@abbyhitter I haven't watched this video yet but it seemed to be in the last trailer. She was voiced by Jenna Coleman before she became famous
@nimnio MUCH MUCH MUCH better ..... Xenoblade 2 is an 8 if you compare it to Xenoblade’s 10.
Xenoblade 2 is a good game .... but 1 is a masterpiece
@nimnio
Because it’s better in both regards.
@OneArmedGiant I was confused by your answer until I re-read my question. I actually meant "How does this compare?" (not a rhetorical question) which funnily enough sounds different than "How are you expecting this to compare?" (which sounds like I've already made up my mind).
@nimnio The story is stronger... Well, Xenoblade 2 builds to something incredible but it has a very slow start that lasts several chapters before it pulls together - this game is much more focused and I adored it back in the day. All cutscenes we've seen so far match up fairly closely to the original so I'm not expecting too many changes save the epilogue adventure promised. The story feels like a war movie, with a very tight beginning, middle and end arc for these characters.
Gameplay - the original was a touch closer to traditional RPG mechanics (as in select from a range of attacks from a list - rather than the fluid but very restricted choices of the sequels) so it will be interesting to see what they changed. The concept of following one type of attack with another that matches it is there but it is more open ended and sprawling.
@abbyhitter I think so! I was worried they wouldn't be able to get Jenna Coleman back after making it big on Doctor Who.
The new visuals look stunning, can't wait to relive this adventure.
Behold the power of the Monado!
@charlieonholiday ehh it was originally a Wii game and was released on 3DS. That's probably already the biggest Nintendo audience you possibly could reach so I would say instead, that this release will bring the game to a whole new generation of gamers!
@mazzel definitely the Wii and 3ds install base was huge. But the 3D version was only available on the “New” 3DS and the Wii version was really hard to get a hold of. So XC1 was not as well exposed as it should’ve been.
Trhis is one remake that I hope gets a lot of love. Xenoblade is such an ace game.
@charlieonholiday Ah I see! I´m glad I just bought the Wii version at release I even got the beautiful red classic controller, so it was the small "limited" edition
I actually didn´t want to double dip, because I have a huge backlog, but guess what? Collectors edition pre-ordered...
Does anyone know if Xenoblade Chronicles will have a demo or something? Would love to give the game a try. I do wish Nintendo/3rd parties released more demos for their games generally.
@mazzel I’m tempted to order Xenoblade especially as they’re extra features. But I will hold off, partly as I haven’t played XC2 yet.
@RPGamer I’d love to replay Xenoblade. Maybe at the end of the Switch’s lifespan I might buy the game to experience it again. But for now I will resist!
@charlieonholiday Just wait for a sale and if the price is ok for you, dip in
@charlieonholiday I was never going to double dip, since I already own and have played most of the way through the Wii original, so I was disappointed at not being able to play the new epilogue, but since the epilogue is playable from the beginning, I realized I can eventually rent (or borrow it from the library) the Switch version of the game just to play the epilogue. Cool!
I'm playing it now for the first time on my old Wii...picked up a copy on eBay (not cheap 😉). I absolutely love it. I can't believe this masterpiece passed me by almost 10 years ago. I'll be waiting for a sale to double dip on Switch though.
Looking forward to getting immersed into the XenoBlade world again!
@RainbowGazelle @abbyhitter I am 100% certain its still her. Presumably they are using the original voice recordings as they wouldn't get her back now to do more. I'm a big Jenna fan but I honestly felt she wasn't giving it her all for this role or the direction was lacking but still so cool that she is in my favorite game of all time
@WiltonRoots Ah! Was wondering who it was. Great!
Have you played XC:DE yet?
@WiltonRoots Well, it's definitely a time sink, but also one of the greatest games I've played. It's well worth the time, don't let ol' sixrings make you believe anything else.
