Update: As promised, the reveal has now arrived. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath launches 26th May.
Original Article: Well, well... What do we have here, then? Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have promised a brand new reveal for Mortal Kombat 11, and it's coming tomorrow.
The tease came in the form of a brand new trailer which you can see for yourself above. "The epic saga continues," it says.
Naturally, the contents of the new reveal aren't known just yet, but fans are already speculating that it'll most likely be new DLC, perhaps in the form of new story content. It's pretty hard to argue with the logic.
The announcement will arrive at 6am PT tomorrow (so that's 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST). Make sure to check back with us tomorrow to see what's next for Mortal Kombat 11, and let us know what you hope to see with a comment below.

meh lol, i considered mk11 but they are pretty much all the same!
Just give me a "Komplete Edition" already you greedy Tarkatans.
@NikHogan
What's "all the same" exactly?
I find it kind of annoying how fighting games need to keep adding more stuff to buy to games long after they released. I miss the days when I could just buy a fighting game and it had everything I would want from day one.
MK11 was garbage. You're gonna have to try pretty damn hard to get me excited after that microtransaction shat show.
Saga? Mortal Kombat has a story?
[edit] Okay, I guess it has a story. Sorry I don't find fighting games fun so I haven't played it myself. It's not my fault none of the people I've ever heard talking about the game spent any time talking about the story. Literally no one ever said anything like "Dude the plot to the game is really cool!" To me. All I've ever heard about are the finishers and the gore.
Only game I’ve traded in for the switch. Once I’d done story mode there was nothing to unlock apart from loot box nonsense. And the price of the DLC was extortionate.
I’m guessing DLC pack 2 and an ultimate with both included.
Now they are just making crap up. It looks terrible now. Yaawwn. Move on.
@Heavyarms55
Personally I think the story in MK games is one of the best around and adds a lot of depth to the characters.
Just give us retro releases of Mortal Kombat & Mortal Kombat 2
@JayJ
They have to support the ongoing server costs & maintenance/support staff for their online fights, which can be tough when all they got was your $60 a year ago. Adding new characters & content incentivizes people to keep paying into the game to support the online modes. (New characters, new content I like // their microtransactions for one-time buffs I don't like)
And it's probably more cost-effective than the old days. Back in the day, you'd have to buy a whole new $60 game just to get the four new Street Fighter characters or however many new characters were in Ultimate MK3.
Mortal Kombat 1, 2, & 3 were rumored to be in the process of being remastered a while back. I wonder if that was true and we'll finally hear about it tomorrow?
@Heavyarms55 Yea it does actually and it’s known for being on of the few fighting games with a decent story mode.
@BloodyMurder what micro transactions? Look MK 11 had problems but micro transactions really aren’t the issue. You want to complain that they were planning heavy micro transactions be my guest; I can’t argue a maybe. Right now the game is no more monetized than most of the other fighting games on that level.
@JayJ Doesn't work anymore, fighting games aren't as popular as they were before, and now the communities demand way much more out of them, otherwise people are quick to call it "dead". So while it's not ideal, I don't think any company making fighting games can be blamed for trying to maximize their profits somehow.
Story mode DLC? That would be amazing. Anyone who says "MK11 is garbage" is dead wrong. You have never played a real garbage fighting game. You can dislike it, sure, but garbage? Grow up. The only people I know who say this are those who aren't any good at it...and the game isn't all that hot on Switch anyways.
@Heavyarms55 Have you ever played any of the games? MK has the deepest story in any fighting game and takes it pretty seriously. There's tons of lore that's been created for over 25 years. C'mon now.
@BloodyMurder With all due respect, you have no idea what you're talking about. There was never a micro transaction issue in MK11. Some person started that rumor with incorrect data, and then everyone online started repeating it even though it was factually incorrect. What there was a serious grinding requirement, which was a problem near launch, but that was fixed not long afterwards. In fact, the people who actually played the game complained at the time that they wished there was a way to pay to not grind and just get everything. But you have never been required to pay for anything other that the additional characters and a few skins, just like every other fighting game.
@JayJ better this than have them release a new title ever year or so that offers little more than the previous entry.
@BloodyMurder - MK11 had (has?) in-game currency balance issues, not mtx issues.
@Magician That is has an in game currency was enough for me to nope out.
@nab1 So you are not required to pay for anything, except characters which are a thing that should have come with the game!
It's microtransaction garbage, stop defending this crap.
@StevenG Again, you don't know what you are talking about. Every modern fighting game, including Smash, has additional DLC characters. It's the main and easiest way to maintain an active community in what is now a pretty niche genre. None of these characters were intentionally taken out for profit. Joker and Spawn in particular you can definitely see all the effort put into.
I was surprised at how much I have enjoyed MK11 on the switch. The hair is hilariously bad, but it plays great. Also, the story mode is quite epic. Not what you expect, or get, from most fighting games. If Ash from Evil Dead is added as DLC, I'll fork over money for him.
Last MK I enjoyed was MK Deception, which had a good fighting system (2 stances and the weapon stance) and included Puzzle Kombat, a very good rip off of Puzzle Fighter!
I hate the stupid X-ray attacks and overdoing everything with the game.
The gore of the first few was fine and it was cool, but now it’s just gore for show and doesn’t add to the gameplay.
Can’t see myself buying any new instalments ever.
Gimme the first trilogy maybe? And that’s a big maybe.
I'm looking forward to the next season of MK11... I just hope I have enough HD space for it on my PS4. That's the thing about modern games- I don't mind updates after launch because it extends the replay value but I never know how much free space to reserve for the inevitable add-ons.
@StevenG Three of the six extra characters that were in the pack were made of “guest” characters that can in no way be argued “should have been in the game”. Spawn, The Joker, Terminator !? And many of the skins in the pack were again based off DC characters or “classic monsters”. It really is just bonus stuff.
Animal crossing has two in game currencies. Tekken has an in-game currency. Do you know what that is?
Anybody remembering MK: Shaolin Monks? I do and I want more of it! Hell, I'll take a port to Switch to boot. It's a PS2 game, so it should be utterly doable. Make it happen!
@Gerald you read my mind!!
honestly got bored of mk 11, and i bought the collectors edition, whats the point of releasing dlc that doesnt come in a £250 edition? never again
@JR150 i dont know lol, i like mk dont get me wrong! but something feels stale and samey to me haha
Here's where the leaked rating for the online Kollection comes in!! I will be very surprised if it doesn't show up in some form.
Just give me Mortal Kombat 11 XL.
A physical release with all of the DLC on cartridge for Switch and on disc for PS4 and Xbox One.
@Heavyarms55 yes it does. And it’s story mode is probably the best for fighting games
Hope they say something about the klassic kollection that was reportedly happening. That would be more interesting to me.
@dethmart agreed
I'm glad they are doing more story. I was really enjoying the story but the ending just retcons everything that happened so there is no weight to anything. I hope we get a better ending.
If only we got a non-micro transaction version of the game. At this point I rather they just port MK9 Komplete Edition and MKXL to Switch instead.
Just give me MK 1, 2, and 3 (Arcade ports) and the MK11 Komplete edition so everything is on a single cart/disc.
my prediKtion is that it will sucK
I always love the mortal kombat series and if there is an expansion to mortal kombat 11, I am all for it.
Forget MK11 where is the Arcade Kollection of 1 to 3 that has been rumoured so often.
@retro_player_77 as I asked someone else, what microtransactions? You can play this game in it’s full form without spending any money. And what you can buy can’t help you play the game. It’s limited to cosmetics and “Easy fatalities”.
And by cosmetics it’s extremely limited. You’d get more just playing the game. Which you can actually set to do without you there.
I mean literally you can farm towers with a turbo controller easier than trying to use time crystals to buy things but whatever..
@elpardo1984 They have an entire game mode (Krypt) dedicated to things to unlock... for free. If that’s what you meant by ‘except lootbox nonsense’... Given the Krypt is an enormous part of the game... it’s a bit of a strange comment to say ‘nothing to unlock’ lol.
@BloodyMurder It’s fine.
From reading the comments I'm actually surprised how some people still don't understand how DLC for fighting games works now...
Like the characters added by DLC weren't all completed and just put aside for later. The main game is completed and then DLC development is started which is why they are staggered in release.
DLC seasons is now what keeps a specific game in the scene otherwise they die out. There's a reason why Tekken 7 and Dragonball Fighterz are still played after all this time.
@FTL it’s dire, that being a core part of the game isn’t much of a defence.
@nab1 I see you do understand. They are all scams. Thanks for trying though, I hope you get paid well.
@mousieone I know what those are, scams.
That you fell for it doesn't mean I should.
I get bored of Mortal Kombat pretty easy, but maybe this will be a nice reveal
@elpardo1984 Each to there own bro - I love it and a lot of people do too. Just opinions all round then.
@Wavey84 Ah yes Dragonball fighterz, I tried it at a friends house, it really is a great game for the eyes. Maybe expanded stages would be nice, and yes, the controls at some points do feel unresponsive. It would be cool to see some sort of middle ground between these two games, as one seems to have the positives that the other lacks.
WB Games, if you want to get me excited, throw all the Williams/Midway/Atari post split off collection of arcade games. Defender, Marble Madness, Robotron, Spy Hunter, Tapper, Paperboy, Roadblasters, Super Sprint, Smash TV, NARC all in one bundle. That would be better than yet another Mortal Kombat game.
@BloodyMurder Clearly haven't played the game, the MTX in the game are really tame (MKX done it worse) and to get most of the content you have to play to earn it. The grinding issue was sorted early on and since that update its pretty easy to do the stuff what gets you rewards.
I just want the MK1, 2, 3 UItimate HD Remasters on my Switch!
@FTL totally I really wanted to like it(and did really like the fighting mechanics) but once I’d gone through story I lost interest the towers and krypt felt like little reward for a lot of grind. And I resented having to pay half the cost of the game again for the extra characters, although I would have reconsidered if at least some of them were unlockable in game.
@JayJ You do have a point but in playing devils advocate I would say it helps to keep the game feeling fresh which maintains interest. Also, it helps fund the next major new installment.
Haven't played it mainly due to characters being locked behind a pay wall that shouldn't be. Give me a Komplete edition and I'll purchase it on sell for 20 bucks now. To long to late.
