Yesterday, while a lot of other video game companies were joking about, the Shantae developer WayFoward actually released Cat Girl Without Salad: Amuse Bouche on the Switch eShop for $7.99 USD.
This title originally started out as an April Fool's gag in 2013 and was later brought to life on PC. It combines classic 2D shoot-'em-up gameplay with a "hilarious story" and features weapons inspired by game genres such as puzzle, sports, rhythm and RPGs. Here's more about the story:
Blast everything that moves in this genre-defying action extravaganza! Take control of Kebako, a cat-eared intergalactic bounty hunter, as she patrols the galaxies with her faithful companion Squiddie in search of ridiculous space criminals.
The game includes side-scrolling action, a wide variety of enemies, multiple boss battles and plenty of non-stop character banter. Below are some screens, and above is the trailer. Will you be trying this one out? Leave a comment below.

Like, seriously, more WayForward games is always a good thing.
...I had no idea this game was a thing, either. ^^;
Uuuh...no not at this price tag anyway.
I got so many games I want 2020 is gonna be monstrous.
Pity my poor wallet.
I might get this just to throw my friends for a GIANT loop, lol
i remember playing this as a humble original, i wanna say, and walked away thinking it was very much lacking
it relies too heavily on humor
The lack of animation makes it look really cheap. Would check it out for like...$1.
It's pretty cheap so I'll give it a try at some point. Nice to have more WayForward games.
@KitsuneNight *laughs in one terabyte sd card with games that have filled it *
I got this on Humble when it first came out and yeah, this is the worst game Wayforward has ever made IMO.
Unfortunately I'd buy it physical just to have keep a complete Wayforward collection.
@SeantheDon29
1025 Steam games
And my 256 gig sd card is fit to bursting too.
Before I know it I wil have to look for a Tb card.
So many bloody games.
...I wouldn't want it any other way
@DockEllisD
I would say a slight miss...it has good ideas that should of been fleshed out more, only three levels...that's it. Animations are limited as if Wayforward was on a tight budget with time constraints though I am not confirming that was the case, that just how the game looks like to me. I do however like the humorous banter between character, looks like the effort went to most of the writing and voice acting. I would actually recommend this game but for only $2.99 at most, $7.99 is too high.
Haha good art. Gameplay looks like a turd sandwich, though.
This was always a gag title and it shows, but it looks a bit amusing.
Even before today though I hadn't heard the best things about it, but I recall it was previously distributed as a freebie through Humble Bundle or something.
if that actually is a game it looks horrendous. Static flash graphics. This isn't what way forward are known for.
Also, I really love catgirls and they got a good design with Kebako. She at least deserves another game, maybe a quality run n gun style game IMO.
@MortalKombat2007
Is that Harley in your avatar ?
I never fully figured out how much GAME there is to this title, so a review would be much appreciated!
@TurboTEF Isn't that the joke? people were waifuing the cat girl non-stop when they thought it was real back then and people wanted this to be a real game, this is what they get. I'd still buy it just to say "Yep, I played Cat girl without salad."
Take some notes, PlatinumGames and Flipnote fakers.
looks okay - but it is really so special?
It is a 2D sidescrolling shooter that has weapons inspired by video game classics.
I agree that it doesn't look that great, but feel like WayForward have earned some trust. I'm not rushing to download right now, but might give it a shot.
Great character design for sure.
The fact that the main character isn't animated makes the game look cheap...
Also that title is dumb.
I didn't know it was WayForward, it's kind of disappointing. It has that early 2000s faux anime look, when people just added pink catgirls in quasi-anime style and random things all over the place and thought it was "anime". It looks terrible and annoying.
This is probably one I may skipped, nothing against WayForward though. Still can't wait for Shantae and the Seven Sirens.
Looks rubbish. Wayforward can do soooo much better!
