The Pokémon Company has revealed during today's special Pokémon Direct that Pokémon Home – its paid-for replacement for Pokémon Bank – will launch next month.
Pokémon Home is a cloud-based service that will allow you to store and trade applicable 'mon between Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sword and Shield. Outside of that release window, however, there wasn't much else in the way of solid information.
The other big news from the Direct is that Sword and Shield are getting expansion passes, and over 200 classic monsters will be returning to the series. We'll also be seeing an update of the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games early this year.

This I’m looking forward to. But damn if I’m setting myself up for disappointment.
do you have to pay for both Home and Bank?
...Effectively killing off transfer of Pokemons from previous games. There will probably be some way around it in the scenes. Life will find a way.
Back in 2013 I thought Bank would be used for all future titles, silly me. Can't wait to pay for this too...
I'll just move all the Pokemon from Bank to this new service (even these not usable in S&S) so I can stop subscribing to Pokemon Bank.
@Friendly I hope we can all migrate to Home, either free of charge if we just renewed Bank or make up the difference if we already have Bank for some time. I don’t plan on keeping both.
But if we transfer all our Pokémon that are not in SwSh to Home, they may be stuck there for a while—until they can be moved to the new games again.
@damo Have they not announced a price yet for the service launching next month? Bank was $5 per year last I checked. With inflation, and Brexit, and WW3, I'm thinking this could be $5 per month like that Mario Kart Tour pass. Though anything more than NO, $20 per year, would seem ridiculous.
$60 game, $30 expansion pass, $20 online, Home, for what used to be a $40 game and $5 Bank. That's some inflation.
If they include Home as a perk of NO that would be nice, or a free year w/ the $30 expansion pass. There are several paths to multiple item promotion if they don't get too greedy.
@rjejr Yeah I have a feeling they are going to charge more than bank was going for with this. As cheap as bank was it wasn't so big of a deal to pay for, but it feels like they are working on squeezing more and more money out of Pokemon now.
Nintendo should make Pokemon Home a perk of Nintendo Switch Online but I know that's probably asking too much considering its Nintendo and TPC.
If you have to pay for Pokémon Home on top of Pokémon Bank then I'm just gonna stick with Bank for now. They're getting a little bit TOO greedy for my liking there.
This is getting ridiculous. Another service on top of Pokemon Bank and we still know nothing about it yet it comes out in a month. GF's development priorities and PR need to change.
One thing to remember, NOT every people are Pokemon diehard. Some of them are Casual gamers. So even without DLC or Expansion Pass, they are already content since they don't care with the paid things again. They finished the game and it's done.
@dougphisig As cheap as Bank was my kids still never paid for it, said they didn't really need it, they play each game for the story and post game and that's about it. Traded with each other a little bit, they always paired off with the paired games.
My son just finished the other day, said about 30 hours including the post game, and there wasn't much there. He starts college this summer so I have a feeling he'll pass on this w/ the autumn release of the second part. Only $15 and only in the spring I think he would have picked it up. He's not much on games-as-service.
Doesnt seem like it works with previous 3DS titles? Only Pokemon Lets Go? Better than nothing. Hoping for a Gen4 addition with a remake this yeah though.
@Anti-Matter Pretty much me.
So I can move the many Eevee I have in Sword to my Let's Go games and have the original trio fight alongside my Eevee? Awesome! I never used Bank, didn't see a personal use for it, but since there's no nursery system in Let's Go, this suits me just fine.
It sounds cool for those who need this feature.
Awesome, can't wait to pay for a service that replaces something that did exactly the same thing, cept it can't transfer all Pokemon.
@ThroughTheIris56 You can transfer ALL Pokémon to Home. Simply not to Sword & Shield.
Pokemon H.O.M.E. - Hostage Oubliette Management Environment
If the transfer is truly one-way from Bank and Let's Go, then any Pokemon not compatible with Sw/Sh that's transferred into Home may as well be a subscription hostage. They will literally have no place to go and no way to play with them. Cancel or lapse? Gone forever.
waste of time tbh, you'll be holding on to some of those mon for years before u can use em, just make new ones when they are released and save your cash
Never had Pokemon bank and unhappy if have to pay separately to the expansion for home.
Also sad to probably "lose" my collection of cool pokes from ultra moon.
Can anybody explain me how the Pokemon GO to pokemon Sword trading works? Can I seriously trade Pokemon that I catch via Pokemon GO to my main game? Because then I will actually pay money for this and pick up Pokemon GO again.
@Bomberman64 More like:
Homebrew always finds a way...
@sanderev Then you can't transport those Pokemon to SSh, that's not really much use.
@Reigestugatensho homebrew is life
