If you asked someone to name one of the most popular mobile games of the past decade, there's a good chance they might mention Niantic's augmented reality title, Pokémon GO.
The game was first released in 2016 and as of October this year, surpassed $3 billion in lifetime gross revenue and has been downloaded more than 541 million times. Now, in its latest milestone, it's been listed as one of the top-grossing games of 2019 and the decade by the mobile data and analytics firm, App Annie.
In terms of the revenue GO made in 2019, it was sixth on the list, right underneath Lineage M, while Fate / Grand Order took out the top spot. Supercell's 2012 title Clash of Clans placed first in terms of revenue earnings of the decade, and GO was eighth on this list.
On the download front, GO wasn't able to break the top downloads of 2019 or the past decade. Below is the full rundown, courtesy of GameIndustry.biz.

And yet they still couldn't figure out a way to get us all the Pokémon in their main game. :/
Yes, I went there.
@Kalmaro well, be fair, Pokémon go didn’t have that many when it launched... also, different developers.
@Kalmaro I mean, Pokemon Go doesn't have a National Dex
The fact that Pokemon Go is on these lists at all shows how big of an achievement it was given how late it was released in the decade. If the game had the same momentum it had when it launched I guarantee it would have ranked number 1 on most of those lists. But I don't think they could have done anything to keep everyone's attention. Like all fads it got overhyped for a few months, then everyone moved onto the next trend. Atleast a good chunk of the playerbase stayed.
@Alpha008 Different devs sure, but you can't say that the Pokémon company and gamefreak aren't benefitting from all that money in some way.
Though I don't want to derail things. Just still annoyed I guess.
I'm surprised that Angry Birds isn't on the list, given that it is the first certified blockbuster mobile game and launched at the beginning of the decade (December 2009 to be exact).

Why do people spend so much money on Pokemon Go? If you've spent over a retail priced game then you've gone overboard and you don't own the game; it'll close eventually then you won't have anything to show for it.
Still baffles me why anyone spends money on the game. Not one dime from me and I played it for about 18 months daily with my son.
I bought an iPhone just for my kid to play this. Phone was faulty so returned it and - after seeing workmates running around all over the place looking for Squirtle - glad I never actually played it. I mean glad my kid never actually played it. Definitely for my kid. Yes.
Very surprising to see Angry Birds didn’t crack a single one of these lists. That game was just as much of a phenomenon as any of these games
It’s so surreal to see Subway Surfers on the top of that list. The dudes that developed it went to the same animation school as me, and as they were working on it I didn’t think much of it. “Mobile games? Who even plays those.” Yeaaaa...I’m way the hell out of touch.
I’m surprise for the download, no Mario kart, maybe it was a hit only on iOS. Apple gives the price to Mario kart this year.
I am really astounded that Pokemon GO has remained successful. I was certain it was just a fad. Although I do think it dropped off quite a bit from the beginning, because in the beginning it was such a big thing that even the people older than me at work that certainly never played Pokemon before were playing it. Now I hardly know anyone at all who plays it.
