It might not seem like it, but earlier this month, Axiom Verge 2 was officially revealed for the Switch during Nintendo's Indie World Showcase. As explained by the title, it's a sequel to the original game released on the eShop in 2017.

While Axiom Verge has been compared to the Metroid series in the past, the sequel has also been influenced by The Legend of Zelda series. This was revealed by the game's creator Tom Happ during an interview with Nintendo Enthusiast recently:

I think I’m pretty much always digesting every game I’ve ever played and using them to flavor my work in some way, but in Axiom Verge 2 there is a distinctly heavier Zelda influence. Also, the newer Prey has been very influential to me, as well as the modern Tomb Raider games, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Apart from Zelda, Tom has also drawn on games like Tomb Raider, Horizon Zero Dawn and even Shadow of the Colossus over the sequel's four-year development cycle.
