Every three months, Nintendo provides an updated list of its upcoming major releases, highlighting the games it thinks will help to boost the Switch's appeal and letting us know of any minor updates or delays.
That time has come around once more today, and we've got the whole list for you down below. There have been a few small changes since the last update - such as the confirmed release dates for games like Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokémon Sword and Shield - but otherwise, everything seems to be as it was before.
So, while it doesn't really show us anything new or exciting, the update does at least tell us that all of the games listed below are still on track for their intended release dates - which is never a bad thing.

Bring on Animal Crossing: New Horizons! I'm so hyped for it 😹
I wonder if there's a possibility we'll see Metroid Prime 4 next E3. One would hope.
How come in Europe Animal Crossing is "Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch" instead of the actual name, that's weird. We going to have a StarFox/StarWing problem?
Don't forget good ole' Lylat Wars too @Bunkerneath
Still waiting for Star Citizen for Switch, maybe in the year 2057 ?
Zelda and dragon quest pleas
Wouldn't mind betting the Switch Lite comes with an optional Link's Awakening pack-in, then.
It's nice that the releases are the same across the different regions. I like this better than when we (NA) used to get games months before or after Japan and Europe.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Apparently DXM is being published by Marvelous in Japan.
Zelda is supposed to be good.
I really hope no one is expecting MP4 to be releasing ANY time soon. That game will come out long after Breath of the Wild 2.
And what about that Shin Megami Tensei being teased eons ago? Dont' think we forgot about it
Very confusing dates for us Europeans! Day/month/year!
I have so many games that came out (or got on sale) in the last month, that I will be satisfied for a long time! I feel like I am swimming in great games.
Dragon quest builders 2, God Eater 3, Dauntless, Cadence of Hyrule, Lethal League Blaze, Persona 5, Shadow of the Colossus, The Messenger, I literally can't even think straight!
@RetroGamerAndrew Yeah no doubt. I never got into SMT, but now that I got deep into persona. I am actually quite surprised they don't have any news by now.
Was Bayonetta and Metroid being still being TBA a surprise to anyone?
Even if they had dates for them, I doubt they'd casually announce them in one of these lists.
Can we get some type of info Bayo 3 and Prime 4?
While I can understand Prime 4 not being shown Bayo 3 hasn't had a delay. Is it going well? Is it even running on Switch?
@liljmoore Prime 4's development had just restarted completely from scratch earlier this year, there is literally no info to give on that game at this point. As for Bayonetta 3, all Platinum has said is that development is going smoothly. Considering Astral Chain is close to releasing, they are probably holding off Bayonetta 3 info as to not undermine that game's release.
It's a solid list for sure - lots of variety to please most people. I am really looking forward to a return to the mainstream next year though (assuming that's Nintendo's plan - dangerous to assume anything with them!)
I suspect a September Direct is on the cards - seems like a logical time to announce something new on the Nintendo Switch Online service (SNES games please!), and perhaps a first look at Super Mario Odyssey 2?
The combination of MP4, BotW2 and SMO2 all confirmed as in development in the run up to peak trading 2019 is surely a solid strategy for Nintendo.
The question remains though... what sort of year is 2020 going to be? How far along are these major titles? Excited... but also a bit nervous to be honest.
I'm pretty sure they're going to find a relatively big game to release in the first fortnight of December too to try to reach non Pokemon fans. Or are they going to bet it all on Pokemon and Luigi's Mansion as the big ones for the rest of the year?
It would be nice to have the European dates presented in the right order... Just saying...
@NintendoFan4Lyf These lists are games Nintendo is publishing. Nintendo isn't publishing Daemon X Machina in Japan, Marvelous is. I suppose because it is not a Nintendo game and Nintendo is just helping with the publishing. Dragon Quest XI S is not in the list either.
The other titles listed in the Japanese section are all Nintendo titles.
@RetroGamerAndrew SMTV will be published by Sega, not Nintendo, so it wouldn't be on the list.
@link3710 you're totally right
The list of third-party titles also reveals PC Building Simulator is coming to the Switch...
Does anyone else think, with the Switch Lite and Link's Awakening coming out on the same day, they've missed a potential LE Zelda Switch Lite?
Bayonetta 3 better be the most amazing thing since sliced bread lol. It was announced nearly two years ago with the team starting over a while back.
@Kineas It would make sense. An even bigger seller would be to sell the lite with Animal Crossing at release. Will they though, doubtful...
I would be surprised if I saw Metroid Prime 4 on Switch before 2021. I would happy with an HD version of Prime 1-3 released on Switch. I haven't played Prime 1 in years and missed on Prime 2 and 3.
"Bayonetta 3 - TBA
Metroid Prime 4 - TBA
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel - TBA"
Lets be real now, all other games aside with the exception of Animal Crossing, these bad boys are gonna be the big hitters.
Animal Crossing has been announced so although its a big hitter, people have dates.
MP4 is gonna be TBA on these lists for a long time. I’m surprised they even include it tbh...
again no mention of TOWN and its suppose to be released this year what is going on with the game?
Just seeing Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3 and a sequel to Breath of the Wild, even in TBA state, is enough to make me think it's okay, we're in the right time line.
Everything still seems to be on track! That September is still pleasingly full. Wallet sighs
@sandman89 Adaptation, my friend. I got used to dates flipping around with both this site and my work.
Thankfully, there isn't another big release I'll absolutely need after September. If I regret any purchase it would be Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Should have saved that money for Dragon Quest XI
@KBuckley27
Town is published by Gamefreak, not Nintendo.
I want so many of those games on that list. lol.
Bayonetta 3, that could be end of the year or early next year. I expect it relatively soon.
Metroid Prime 4 late next year at the earliest, if not 2021. I'd prefer the Metroid Prime Trilogy released within 6 months or so, and MP4 to be 2021.
Zelda BOTW2 2022.
Some of this depends on their other big franchises. Mario Kart 9 could be ripe for 2022 and that would push back Zelda. Mario Odyssey 2 or even Mario Galaxy series could influence release schedules.
Why when listing European dates, do you not use the European date format?
@westman98 and it is a game that is exclusively coming to Nintendo Switch and they said 2019
Pikmin4 is where?
@KBuckley27
That list Nintendo provided is for Nintendo-published games only.
Nintendo != Gamefreak
Pokemon is not a Nintendo IP game and that is on the list
@antster1983 Nice. If that sells good, maybe they'll make a Switch Building Simulator next.
@KBuckley27 Nintendo publish the Pokémon games. TOWN will be self-published by Game Freak.
Slightly strange schedule. Front end loaded with September in particular heavily stacked - then a month with nothing until Luigis mansion on 31st October.
