Bowser Bowser

While upcoming games are obviously the focus of any Nintendo Direct, the E3 show's opening sequence featuring Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser alongside actual, Peach-napping bad guy Bowser was a fun little thing to behold. You can remind yourself here.

Over the last few days, we've already learnt about how the whole Bowser name joke was handled in Japan - where the Mario villain is simply known as 'Koopa' - but now we have yet another little tidbit of info regarding the segment's production.

In a recent E3 special episode of the Nintendo Power Podcast, Doug Bowser shared a fun little story about his starring role.

“That was a lot of fun. Just a little inside story: as we were filming that - it was funny - obviously we didn’t have a CG Bowser in the room. We had someone in a blue suit with a big pole coming out of the top of his head and a piece of tape really high up, and those were meant to be Bowser’s eyes.

“And so, as we were obviously engaging with that particular person, we were supposed to be looking up at the eyes. I can’t tell you how many takes we had to do because I kept staring at the actual eyes of the actor instead of way up to Bowser’s eyes. I basically kept talking to Bowser’s chest.”

You mean, Bowser isn't actually real? Well, this is worse than when we first found out about- actually, we probably shouldn't go there.

If you want to listen to the whole chat, you can do so right here. It goes over the biggest stories from E3, Bethesda’s Pete Hines talks about upcoming games, and more besides.
