Earlier this year, a physical release for gorgeous platformer GRIS was announced for Nintendo Switch. Back then, we didn't have an expected release date apart from the wonderfully vague "2019", but it looks like we won't have too long to wait.
The game's developer, Nomada Studio, has shared the following graphic on Twitter to give us a little more info. Pre-orders for the physical edition will be going live on 25th June; you'll be able to pick it up from Special Reserve Games.
We gave the game an 'excellent' 9/10 in our review. If you're a physical collector and haven't yet grabbed GRIS from the eShop, this would be a solid purchase. Here's what we had to say:
We’re very careful when we use this word, but Gris is a masterpiece. Its jaw-dropping visual style and heart-wrenching score combine for one of the most emotional pieces of interactive art you’ll ever play. It may be too short for some, its puzzles may be on the simple side and the lack of any real challenge may not be to everyone’s taste, but this is a game focused more on fragility than ability and as long as you’re willing to go along for the ride, it’s one that will stick with you for a very long time indeed.
Will you be adding this one to your collection? Tell us below.

YES!! Great game, shame its so short (only took me 6 hours in a very hungover state), but the most beautiful game I have ever played
Typical. Always prefer physical if possible but not waiting around on the off chance they do (especially if they have a eshop sale for a game on my watch list). I don't double dip.
Cool, usually Limited Run Games offers a variant cover of Special Reserve Games releases through their site, so it's something I'll likely pre-order together with LRG's Freedom Planet run.
This game is 3.9GB, so I'd definitely appreciate a physical edition.
Although that is true @RupeeClock i wouldn't buy it from Limited Run Games unless your going for all the different covers. As Special Reserve Games copies almost alway have extra goodies thrown in for the games bought on their site. Like a Cloth Map or Art Book or something. And don't forget Best Buy usually sells their games too for 3 different covers total.
@BacklogBlues
I don't necessarily need the extra goodies, I'm mostly concerned with the game, and keeping down shipping costs by buying more games together.
Best Buy is a US thing, I'm in the UK.
That makes since @RupeeClock. Both Companies are the same prices here(U.S) because S.R.G charges a little more for shipping but L.R.G charges sales tax so their the same price in the end. In your case your correct L.R.G would be the way to go.
It would be swell if there was a physical edition for that Hellblade game.
YES! Loved this game.
is SRG one that has limited quantities as opposed to open preorders?
@Arbor No, that’s Super Rare Games.
I know; it’s getting difficult to keep track of them all.
@Miadaskate oh good, I was worried. since i have a job and am doing college enrollment stuff, i can't just sit at my laptop waiting for preorders to open if they're a limited quantity. open preorder is the way to go.
I knew it coming it was a matter of when and would it break the funds.
Too late. Just downloaded it.
Great News! Will get it for sure!
How did I miss this?! I didn't see anything about this til just now... and it's weeks after the pre-orders closed... great =/
