After the original NBA Playgrounds game dropped the ball, the game's publisher decided to build upon its foundations with a sequel known as NBA 2K Playgrounds 2. Since the second game's release last October, 2K has issued multiple updates.
The latest one is “out of this world” according to the 2K Playgrounds' Twitter account, with a new court located on Mars, some old faces, and brand new outfits and court editor items. To top it off, cross-play support has also been added in. This allows the Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox One versions of the game to ball without limits. Unfortunately, PlayStation 4 players miss out on the fun. Here’s the official tweet below:
Will you be trying out cross-play in this game? Would you like to see more multi-platform releases include this feature? Tell us down in the comments.

very interesting. I will try the crossplay.
Was Yao Ming finally added in the newest update? Because I couldn’t find him before...
LOL
PS4 owner will have party with nobody. 😝
They’ll be very sad, those PS4 owners.
If you haven't tried it, this game is SUPER FUN!!!
I'll never understand why Sony won't cooperate with Microsoft and Nintendo for cross-play on some of the games that's on all platforms.
We still trying this?... Most PS4 owners will not care
And by the looks of the response on Twitter - neither does anyone else. Even This weeks maintenance announcement for The Division 2 got 1.5K likes.
If MK11 had CrossPlay - it would be an issue for SONY. A $25 game that got 42 likes on their cross-play announcement - is not even a Blip on PS4 right now.
I think this sounds really positive, and I might now go ahead and get this. Looks like a fun basketball game, loved NBA jam
It looks like the game lost its relevance.
The damage from the first game was already done.
First and second games and both brilliant. Both are in my top five most played by hours on the switch. The sheep generation believe a few influencers.
The first one needed patching but by the end was a very good arcade game.
This one is great and the VC nonsense was much a do about nothing - unless you want to dress nba players in silly outfits.
Top game and the support after has been nothing short of epic. This last 16 players was the worst batch yet but still decent enough.
Boom - shack and a lacka!
@Mchi5 I think he was a added a couple of patches ago.
@Agramonte , When you say that "Most PS4 owners will not care" how do you know it? Have you been elected as their president and you represent them? Did you see it on a magical crystal ball?
@Agramonte An indie-ish game with a very lukewarm reception isn't going to receive many likes/upvotes/thumbs up on any post made. Going through their feed many of their posts don't even crack 100 likes. Probably not a great indicator of the general desire for crossplay.
@Cosats were you elected the president of Nintendo owners? Mr "We never want achievements on Switch". You must have that crystal ball since you like speaking for an entire fanbase yourself 😏
@Cosats That same thing that SONY is looking at
PS4 hardware sales And $59 PS+ YoY subscription growth.
@Indielink And that is my point.
"An indie-ish game with a very lukewarm reception" is not going to matter to a large chunk of PS4 owners who have access to every - popular Online multi-million seller game (and 37 million people to play it with)
And not about cross-play. If MK11, WWZ, The Division 2, Epic Legends all came out with Crossplay on Switch, PC, Xbox in the last 4 months - SONY would have a giant problem.
You have 14 people playing this on PC. And this stuff "with cross-play" barely helps Nintendo sell $19 subscriptions to their own customers. But somehow a big deal for PS4 owners.

@Agramonte I'm not sure what you mean by, "we still trying this?"
This isn't any kind of active smear campaign against Sony. Crossplay is supposedly easy to implement. Even if it doesn't matter to the entirety of your install base, allowing it on your system (or as a dev, implementing it in your game) is still an easy win in terms of publicity.
We're at the end of the console generation, no one is overtaking the PS4 in sales, crossbuy or not. Sales are slowing down. There should be no harm in letting it happen.
I don't think anyone expects crossplay to sell online subscriptions, and even then Nintendo is doing pretty well with getting people to pick up theirs.
Only the biggest Sony fan boy would say Sony users don’t care about crossplay. Things like that can only be good. Same as people wanting any of the consoles or games to fail. More consoles and better games can only be good. Same as features. Competition is good. We all have that one mate that always has the game on a different console/PC.
If you have the first game (but have stopped playing it) is it worth picking up the second one? Enough of an upgrade?
@Toshiro_Baloney The NBA season mode adds a lot for me. Also some big names added Jordan, Kobe, Kareem for starters.... you play 15 games in season mode and then best of 3 play offs and each team has exclusive unlockable... so it encourages you to play 1 season as each team and you earn coins to unlock players as you go - they have added 100s since launch. The roster is pretty decent now. Quite a few teams have 20+ players and only a couple have under 10. The card packs can be quite tight as you unlock more and more which is annoying but I just always get cheapest pack and I’ve still got loads of sliver and gold cards. I’ve not paid for anything with real money.
Court creator and casual clothes for players both require a massive grind or paying real money but TBH the game doesn’t need either - in season mode each team has their own court (all similar but with team logos and adverts) plenty of actual playgrounds for exhibitions and online and now three point is playable offline.
@Stocksy I have a PS4 although I have a lot more games for Switch, so I'm hardly a PS fanboy. And I can tell you I really could not care less about cross play. Now of course I'm not against it, but I just don't care.
@Agramonte Come back when it is a game like MK11 or Fifa or COD getting PS4 crossplay, and then we'll talk.
I for one do not believe gamers on any platform are happy with less features then their contemporaries. Brushing it off as "no one cares" is incredibly lazy and fanboyish.
Such a shame Sony can't allow something so simple
@Agramonte Even if the game is small, Sony not allowing something as crossplay goes to show how out of touch they are with their fans. They're basically what Nintendo was before the Switch
@sparkyfilm get it! It's like an updated NBA Jam. Great fun and not expensive
@Toshiro_Baloney I'm probably not much help with your question because I didn't buy the first game, but the second one has been AWESOME and they are still updating it!
@Indielink If tomorrow...
Overwatch, Destiny, WWZ, Division2, MAdden, COD, DIRT 2.0, AC7, PUG, MH:World, Borderlands 3, Rage 2, APEX LEGENDS, BFV, BF:FireStorm
Go crossplay (or announce they will be by 2020) SONY will cave in a heartbeat (Just like they did for FortNite)
The SWITCH does not even have most of the top games that could turn the tide if "Cross-Play" becomes important for the SONY fan base.
Getting that 3rd party support is what Nintendo should focus on if "Cross-Play" is the next big thing next GEN.
@Entrr_username
It is a small part of their base, so unless it impacts a bigger section they out of luck.
I am part of the 16% who buy "3rd party games" on Switch. I can complain all I want about the selection. It will never be a priority for Nintendo.
The majority is happy and the Switch is selling like hot-cakes. They do not "need" to care about me right now.
They can just not give up and keep complaining - what I do 🙃
@Agramonte Not my point. My point is that they can't allow something as simple as crossplay for a small game like this. They already got flak for not allowing it for Fortnite and they clearly haven't learned anything. You may not care as much but it's still an important topic since Sony's stance on it has been an issue for a long time. This is just unacceptable and if you can't realize that, then you're clearly not a fan
@Entrr_username You pointed out "how out of touch they are with their fans"... I pointed out that they can get away with it because the majority of their fans can care less about these games.
Yes, and they had to cave to EPIC and "Their Fans"... You know right away when the PS4 base is unhappy about something.
@Agramonte Crossplay is still an easy to add feature and it's pretty crappy on Sony's part to not allow it. Even if it only effects 15% of of their base it's an easy win and it makes for good headlines. Sony is in a position where they have nothing to lose by doing it.
We're seeing Nintendo making huge strides in 3rd party games. Your (and my own) complaining has had an effect. Obviously Red Dead 2 isn't happening but we have gotten/will be getting some pretty cool stuff in the future.
@TheFox I have this game for PS4,couldn’t care less about cross play
Same. I couldn’t care less about that game. :/
