In the lead up to the release of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, there's been much discussion on the developer's end about going back to the series' roots and providing an accessible experience for players of all levels.
It seems this accessible design only goes so far - with the game seemingly not supporting the Switch Pro Controller. While players will be able to use Joy-Con, the special Poké Ball Plus accessory and even the touchscreen to a certain extent to play the game, a listing on the Japanese and Korean eShop serves as a reminder the traditional control method will not be an option.
This isn't the first time the Pro Controller has not been supported in a major Switch release. Prior to the launch of Super Mario Party not long ago, it was discovered Joy-Con controls would be the only way of playing the game. This was arguably a logical decision, as the majority of mini-games required exaggerated movements with the Joy-Con. In this particular case, though, it's hard to understand why traditional controller support would be left out.
What do you think about the Pro Controller not being supported in Switch titles? Will you be picking up the new Pokémon games on release? Tell us below.

I mean...it wasn't Nintendo's decision to leave out Pro Controller support given they aren't the developer/publisher so...
Ya know.
Blame the actual parties here.
But still, yeah, that's dumb.
Like not being able to disable motion.
Heck, most of the decision in this game are dumb.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Ehh I'll get over it, I'll be playing in handheld mode mostly...
SMP could work perfectly with pro controller
Sucks. I think the pro controller is the best, most comfortable controller yet. I like to use it for every game, if possible. I understand why I can't use it in Mario Party, but every game should otherwise include pro support. I also don't like it when I don't know a game doesn't support the pro controller and after I start the game I have to get a joy con just to get back to the home menu. Not a huge deal, but kinda irks me a bit.
Well they want you to play with just one joycon.
Mildly disappointing. Would be more disappointing if I weren’t getting the pokeball controller.
I don't particularly care in this case. I only care about using a pro controller for games like Smash or Zelda.
It stinks if that is the case. But I'll live and enjoy Pokémon anyways
@Knuckles-Fajita Nintendo might not be the developer nor are they responsible for the decision, but they are the publisher.
@thesilverbrick The primary publisher is TPCi. TPCi determines the ultimate direction of the games. It is their decision alongside Game Freak.
Haven't we known this for months?
It's not a big deal really. But I don't understand why.
Ew. Why not? If I wanted convoluted controls I'd go to the options menu and turn them on. Enough with the gimmicks.
Is this news? I thought this was confirmed ages ago...
Nintendo has been pulling this since the Wii. Was there any reason why New SMB Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns couldn't support the Classic Controller?
@Knuckles-Fajita Nintendo owns part of TPCi so really they publish it 2 times
I’ll be using my pokeball anyway, so this doesn’t bother me. Even if I weren’t shelling the extra for it, I would just use one joycon. Ya know, how it’s designed.
I don't see how this is considered news. They stated that the game requires either a single Joy .com or the Pokeball controller when Let's Go was announced.
So what happen when you want to play on portable mode ? You just use the touchscreen ? Not the actual joysticks ?
I suppose they felt like "oh no we shouldn't let them throw pokeballs with buttons, just use touchscreen or motion controls but buttons ? Nah, they don't have any choice"
@Yosheel
Can you use just one joy con if you choose to play single player?
@Mgene15 yes that’s how they’ve been advertising the game, and that’s why they offer the pokeball controller, it’s basically a round joycon with a speaker.
@HobbitGamer So you rather pay $50 on a useless accessory, then have an option for players who forked money for an actually useful controller? Interesting...
@Knuckles-Fajita Nintendo is listed as a publisher of the game everywhere I’ve checked. TPCI may also have a hand in publishing, but to say Nintendo is not the publisher of this game is incorrect.
I could've sworn this was a story months ago...
this is why combining pokemon GO was a complete turnoff. Traditional Pkmn is all about exploring /collecting/ team building and pvp. Who was the idiot who think 'throwing' pokeball was fun?? I dont play the entire pokemon game with the majority of my time throwing pokeballs in style....isnt that what a typical mobile game is like???
@LightBeam "So what happen when you want to play on portable mode ? You just use the touchscreen ? Not the actual joysticks ?"
Why, you simply just throw your switch every time to catch the Pokémon.
Not surprising.
Because it already mentioned play with ONE Joy Con.
I think it's a way to attract other peoples to notice that machine is Nintendo Switch, not a smartphone.
Okay, who want to "throw" the Pro Controller everytime you must throw a Pokeball ?
Sounds like it doesn't have support from my wallet either with all the dumb decisions they keep making.
@Evilworm
"Who was the idiot who think 'throwing' pokeball was fun??"
This game is for KIDS, you know....
Btw, to catch a Pokemon, you have to throw a Pokeball.
And to make it realistic, you have to "throw" the Pokeball with Joy Con by mimicking throwing action.
I think Nintendo did like that to tell to younger gamers that was the way to catch Pokemon, not just by press the button only.
@LightBeam
"So what happen when you want to play on portable mode ? You just use the touchscreen ? Not the actual joysticks ?"
Do like this.
On Handheld mode, take off your Right Joy Con while you still hold your Switch tablet.
"Throw" the Joy Con to catch Pokemon while you still hold your Switch tablet.
You know, like 1-2-Switch style.
@waluigifan1 You must have missed the part where I wrote that if I didn’t spend the extra money ($40) to get the pokeball, I’d use the joycon. The joycon that came with the system. A pro controller is also something that cost extra, so there’s that.
Edit; Full disclosure, I spent the $70 on a pro controller. I also don’t expect it to be supported by every game, though. You could just as easily say that it’s a $70 useless accessory as the pokeball.
Kweh? Can’t use my pro controller?? Fine, I will use the sad-cons 😔
@Knuckles-Fajita TPCi is not some seperate company. It is a company that the three joint ip owners for Pokemon formed to manage the Pokemon license. They don't publish the main games, and they mostly handle licensing in regards to merchandise, and sometimes spinoff games.
They themselves don't really have a say in what happens in the main games. Gamefreak is the one that decides that, and Nintendo owns enough of the ip to have their say as well. But, to my knowledge, they're not heavy handed when it comes to doing so.
"It seems this accessible design will extend to the controls - with the game seemingly not supporting the Switch Pro Controller."
I'm confused by this phrasing. Did you mean to write "will NOT extend to the controls?" Or do you think that denying people their choice of controls is somehow more accessible?
@WaxxyOne I've made a slight adjustment to clarify this.
@HobbitGamer “I spent the $70 on a pro controller. I also don’t expect it to be supported by every game, though. You could just as easily say that it’s a $70 useless accessory as the pokeball.”
Except that $70 controller is full of features, maybe the all time best designed controller, and is compatible with 99% of games. Versus a gimmicky $40 pokeball good for a single game.
I hope they eventually patch these games to offer an option to allow you to disable all the bs hand holding go mechanics, maybe a hard mode. A little choice would go a long way to keep everybody happy.
Maybe I’m in the minority here but I actually find motion controls (if implemented well) to be superior to traditional stick controls.
I’m probably never going to play this one but it’s nice they are focusing on the motion controls as an essential gameplay feature. It also makes sense since the throwing of a pokeball would not have the same sense of satisfaction if one were to only press A.
With that being said the physics puzzles in BOTW and sword swinging in Skyrim really felt terrible with motion controls. Hope developers are able to improve on this in later releases.
I hope this game crashes and burns.
I guess I’ll be buying the pokeball plus
I would really like to play through Kanto again as FireRed was my first Pokemon game (unless Colosseum counts), but I don't want to buy this game if it's going to make stupid motion control mandatory. I might get it once it's available used, but I don't want to support it.
WTF. What did I buy all these pro controllers for, next thing you know they won’t work with smash because you have to “waggle” to throw a punch. Motion controls are garbage, always have been. Every “waggle” motion to trigger an action could easily be done with a button press. Not getting this game anymore. The joycons are awful, totally ruined Mario Party.
@Swaz
How did the Joy Cons ruin Mario Party? The minigames were very simple, motion control actually made them more fun than they would have been without it. The Joy Cons work well, I don't know how many pots you've smoken but you need to lay off the doobies compadre
I get why it wasn’t used in SMP, but in this game? Silly!
Wasn’t gonna get this anyway, but feel for those who are going to buy it and wanted to play with the pro controller.
Hopefully the 2019 mainline game does offer more control options. If that game reinvents the Pkmn formula without gimmicks, I might be interested.
I'm actually a little perturbed this is becoming semi common. This isn't technically a Nintendo title.. But still. Why didn't the pro controller come able to everything the joycon can?
I own two pro controllers, 2 switches, and 3 sets of joycon in my household.. (and 4 docks) and I use one of my pro controller on my PC more than I do on the switch. :/
Great, I love hand cramp.
Why? I refuse to use motion controls or the touch pad. There better be an option to just press a button to throw a Pokeball.
@KingMike It's always bothered me that I couldn't pay NSMB Wii and DKCR with the classic controller. Those games would have been more enjoyable with the classic controller.
@JudaiMasters I'm with you there. Every other Pokémon game let's you press a button so why force motion controls? They should let the player choose how they want to play.
WOT that Pokeball controller pre-order price is 50 bucks?!!
Completely idiotic and unacceptable.
If you can play the game in handheld mode or with both Joy-Con (which is functionally identical to using a Pro Controller), then there is absolutely no sane reason why Pro Controller support should be excluded.
@Turvok : But the Joy-Con can do everything that the Pro Controller can (do correct me if I am mistaken; and I am referring specifically to dual Joy-Con used in lieu of a Pro Controller). The only exception I can think of is the IR camera, which hardly sees any use anyway, and last I checked, is not being utilised in these games.
Very disappointing. Options aren't a bad thing.
@KingMike agreed and why the new nes controllers will only work with nes games. Plenty of classic games and arcade games that they could work with. We should be able to customise controls and controllers how we see fit
Sounds like the joy cons are using a different api to the classic controller meaning support doesn't come for nothing. Even if it's the same API the ui still needs extending to add in a configuration screen. As soon as it starts to cost to support the pro controller questions will be asked about exactly how many sales this feature would add compared to how much it would cost.
How many sales do you think it would add? For a game like this i can't see it having a significant enough impact to be worth the effort.
Not exactly a shocker.
And let's be honest - why would anyone need a Pro Controller to navigate menus and move a person around a screen?
@Silly_G at this point I am not sure it will be possible to play with grip either. I appears that is single joy con only a la Mario party... And that is the reason why I won't buy this game. It is just Stupid beyond imagination
So moving your arm around all day is fine, but in the context of a video game it is not? Is your job so hard that at the end of the day your limbs become incapable of motion?
LOL obviously. Switch comes bundled with TWO joycons and you only need ONE to play.
What kind of crazy person is complaining about no pro support? Joycon motion controls are a core of the game's control. It's not like it's Wii and motion controls suck anymore.
With the forced motion controls, of course they won't allow for another controller, it makes sense to me...
Forcing motion controls in the first place is a point against buying the games for me (I'm still on the fence about it), but it's not "Forced" if you then give people an out, is it?
Somehow I knew that was the case. Since day one the game was shown off as a one handed, motion control, minimal button (confirm & cancel) type game. No place for a two-handed, 12 button controller here; not counting handheld mode for obvious reasons.
Although they could use the spare buttons as shortcuts and the shoulder and trigger buttons to have the 4 attacks assigned to each one, just an idea.
Rabble rabble! Outrage! Anger complain!
You're either buying this game for what it is at this point, or boycotting it for what it's not. It's not next year's real Pokemon RPG. I'm tired of everyone's opinions about Let's Go. Just vote with your wallets, let those who want it enjoy it, and shut up about it.
Aw crap, forgot where I was. Carry on internet.
I'm planning to get the real Pokemon game next year anyways. These I'll get for the kids.
@Yui714 well I will give two examples of games that are advertised by Nintendo to be motion control focus that play Way Better on the Pro (or with grip). The first is arms that you go to any competition and you get that anyone going to finals are using a Pro because even though you loose the ability to move your arms around freely you gain a hell lot of movement. The second one is Mario odyssey that is advertised as used better with two separate joy cons and it simple does not work because you need a good grip on a platformer or you will end falling out because you don't have a proper grip (and you can do EVERY single movement with the pro also). I don't mind the use of the gyro assistance ( it is not m+k but it helps in comparison with two analogue) but for the rest of it I demand an option for controls only. I was thinking about buying Pokémon as there were talks that they would allow to throw the ball with a button but now it seems that you need to use a single joy con and that is a big No
"What do you think about the Pro Controller not being supported in Switch titles?"
I think it is an excellent decision and officially proves Switch is a portable system. NOT a home console. It was a home console it would have sold worse than Wii U.
"Will you be picking up the new Pokémon games on release? "
NGYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs
@thesilverbrick,
I think you answered your own point there,Nintendo are only the publisher,and decision with controller support lies with the
games developer.
The stench of Wii lingers on... I probably would have got this, but the motion control focus is obviously, as always, a major turn-off, but we'll see.
@NoxAeturnus,
The vocal internet posting minority are always right you know.
@Silly_G,
Or no reason for it to be included as it's not required.
Since I basically only play handheld, I fail to see an issue.
not bothered about the lack of pro controller support but the forced motion controls absolutely ruin it for me it is impossible for me to use motion controls with any kind of accuracy
So I've had a chance to play it.
A single Joycon is what you play with (hence the simple design/limited control and buttons of the pokeball controller), your second joycon is for your friend. Both have seperate motion controls for catching.
A pro controller (basically 2 Joycons combined) can't work with this configuration along with the way you catch with motion controls, I can't see how that would work or detect correctly with a pro controller.
It simply wasn't made for that in mind. It was made with the ethos is 2 players from day one, and every switch has 2 Joycons.
The fact people are surprised about this I feel like aren't aware of how the game works.
Secondly, so much feedback about how the game has changed. You'd be unhappy either way: if it were the same the complaint would be it's just the same thing bla bla bla, if it changes the complaining is it should be the same bla bla bla ....
I'll await the firing squad for the people who are triggered...
It's a good thing IMO, just like the lack of cloud saves, punish those hackers!
Actually not sure I’ll buy it now😥
I would have bought this game if it wasn't for one thing.....
they made it IMPOSSIBLE to catch my favorite pokemon Mew without it, X(
that is just lame to do that, I loved that they made the damn pokeball thing, for a little added fun, but then saying you are not allowed to get certain pokemon unless you buy our special release with the ball is EXTORTION !!!
No worries. Proper one on the horizon which will hopefully use proper controls. This was always intended to be a bit different to the core series.
@MysticX the official pro controller has gyro
@Kimyonaakuma it was
@HobbitGamer Sorry about that I thought you wrote Pokeball. However you would think they would be able to map waggle to a button like ARMS.
@janpampoen I don't think it supports handheld
@waluigifan1 All good.
and with that im out!!!! wont be buying it, as i absolyutly hate the joycons they are to damn small for my hands...i dont even play in handheld unless im in a car or on a plane, if im in the house though its either docked or tabletop with a pro controller
@Abes3 your thinking is just stupid, first the pro controller has gyros and does work with motion, second if every pokemon game can be controlled with a regular controller why not leave that option and add the motion based option....only reason i can think is to try and bring in the pokemon go crown who i guess wouldnt be able to figure out on thier own that they could use motion or a pro controller. as for the two player part of your statement well one could use a pro and the other could use a joycon or how bout both can use pro controllers....if arms can figure out how to make a game that works great on motion to work equally good with a pro controller no reason they couldnt do this with pokemon go blah blah crappy name..i dont mind companies catoring to casual gamers but they seem to time and time again forgot there are people who would rather sit back and play a game without the chance of throwing it accross the room or accidentally punch your bud sitting next to you.
@DownRightSam It does. The game is completely playable in handheld mode.
This is the main reason why a lot of people I know are NOT BUYING! Who wants to wave there arms around infront if the TV anymore. That was the Wii era and this style of gaming needs to stay dead!
You won't get my money on any game you implement waggle controls.
@Anti-Matter
You dont need to teach little kids how to throw something. Yes you need throw a pokeball thats how you catch pokemon... but the pokemon core gameplay has always been the intense competitive battles and teambuilding.
Yes its disappointing but like Mario Party it's good to know this going in. Still personally it doesnt affect my buying decision as I'll give the Pokeball controller a go. Have they mentioned if the game is playable in mobile mode with dual joycon attached? If so it would be very strange to not include Pro support as they offer the same button for button controls.
Wasn't that painfully obvious? Every trailer has shown using the Joy-Con or Pokeball accessory.
@Evilworm
You can felt disappointed with Pokemon Let's Go, but DO NOT swearing in front of me !
That was very RUDE , dude !
Btw, your answer was Too Egoistic for your needs in Pokemon games. This game is NOT created to be played so Hardcore for adult gamers. Felt upset about this game and swearing in front of other users were completely CHILDISH Attitudes.
@Quarth
I think i know why No compatibility with Pro Controller because you know...... it's Pokemon game.
Nintendo was "Forcing" us to play Pokemon Let's Go with Single Joy Con (And have to be "thrown") or Pokeball Joy Con to show that was a Pokemon games and "throwing" the Pokeball was how to catch any Pokemon. It was good for younger audiences to getting know what was Pokemon but at the same time it's also made upset for Veteran gamers who want Traditional way to play.
No Options to play was also happened during NDS & Wii era. Did you remember Harvest Moon Island of Happines NDS ? You HAVE to touch the screen entirely just to make your character walk or run. But that was fixed on Harvest Moon Sunshine Island by given D-Pad input for walk or run.
@Anti-Matter I remember I got really tired of drawing circles to make Link roll all over the place (for fastest travel) in Phantom Hourglass.
I don't see why making EVERYTHING Link does touch-based was needed. (I recall the buttons were only used as shortcuts to open the menus. The only thing closest to button control was that R could be used to activate the current Item. It seems the only concession they were making was that I don't have to tap the Item window on the screen before drawing the Boomerang's path.)
Cue expressions of shock and surprise over absolutely nothing.
No, make it Pro Controller compatible. I want to read the stories of Pro Controllers thrown at TVs
I'm not surprised, but this confirms I'm never buying Let's Go. Motion controls aren't easy when using your feet, and while I can manage a single joycon, I can't play in handheld mode at all. As I view Pokemon as a handheld series first, I can't justify supporting or purchasing a product inaccessible to me. A shame GF/Nintendo's definition of accessibility only applies to casual gamers and not gamers with disabilities. I'll find challenging rom hacks to re-experience Kanto, instead. That way, my skills will be tested mentally rather than physically. I wish Nintendo would start caring about gamers with disabilities.
So will it work with joy con grip or handheld? I hope so. Not a fan of split joy con.
One of the best features of the Switch is you can play how you want. This game has decided to be play how we tell you. Gyro controls work in Handheld, but they just can’t add them when your in docked mode. Options are a good thing, if there isn’t a good reason not to have them they should be there. Hoping people buy more pokeball controllers because play options were artificially limited is not a good reason. Doesn’t matter what you prefer everyone should be able to understand people being upset about this decision.
I know this game won't sell badly, but it deserves to. Gamefreak need a wake-up call.
@BioXcrisis Ah, i stand corrected then, i don’t have a pro controller, so don’t mind me... :3
@TonyTyga90 Joy Con grip most likely not. But handheld, yes.
Just like Super Mario Party, there's just no excuse. The video I made about it makes it laughable to defend this company (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBHOL2RPdQY). Alas, this is a site dedicated to Nintendo so the shilling and mindless defending is not a surprise to me here. It's an anti-consumer decision, pure and simple. The controller is expensive, is first party, as is the game, and we should be able to use it. It's annoying to have to detach a joycon from the dock when a more comfortable controller is just sitting there.
JoyCons are only a valid controller option in handheld mode. As a table console controller, they suck.
We've been waiting for a proper, fully fledged Pokémon game to play on TV for 15 years.
I guess we can wait one more year.
@Almighty-Koz my reasoning is that after actually playing the game in japan, the single joycon feels natural to the way you catch it. And after playing it, it would be very odd to do the same motions with a full pro controller. If the developer made it to suit the joycon, and it works well, and fits the game, why would they then go above to figure out how to it with the pro? It's time and resources not required. Additionally as a pick-up-and-go game it's also not required. It's a hybrid console. Lastly, this is not a main series game, it's a refresher for new players to join, go players to start to learn main game and a spin off for hardcore players in one. They're are plenty of articles and interviews from the developers. Have a look.
That being said, when I got to know that the Pokeball Plus isn't just a novelty item but a controller and also a "living" pokeball, I pre-ordered it with the game.
So I guess I'm gonna have fun with that even when I play the game in decked mode, too.
(Otherwise, I'd use my Pro Controller for sure.)
@Almighty-Koz and as a 6"1 male with big man hands, I've never had an issue with the size of the joycon. I just don't use the puppy dog holder thing that came with it and use them seperatly for other games. Because the game basically uses one button and motion you'll be fine... unless your hands are swelled...
I decided to skip this games as soon as they announced it. Looking forwards to the game release so we can finally have information about Pokemon 2019.
@Anti-Matter Yeah, it’s a shame to just offer a few control options in a game when it’s probably quite easy to fix support for more than one or two ways of controlling. But hopefully the 2019 mainline Pkmn game has more to offer.
I'm all for motion controls, and the silly fun of getting into this. But I'm also all for letting people play with the pro controller. If you want to encourage using the Joy Con, make people try it once before giving them the option or something, but some people are just going to prefer minimum physical activity, and that's fine.
As for the general disdain for this game from hardcore fans, I understand the fear of the franchise going away from what you love, but this is exactly the opposite.
It is an inlet for the uninitiated and those who came to Pokemon through Pokemon Go. It is ushering in new fans while they take time with the main game for the traditional fans. It is strengthening the franchise and trying to funnel people into what you like about the game.
Plus, it looks fun, inviting and is a fresh take.
@aaronsullivan ''It is an inlet for the uninitiated and those who came to Pokemon through Pokemon Go. It is ushering in new fans while they take time with the main game for the traditional fans.''
I don't know...The reason why so many people played Pokemon Go must be that it's free. Having to pay for a Nintendo Switch + 60$ game (80$ in Canada) might be too expensive for players who simply use the game for free on their mobile phone.
Although I do agree that Let's Go and the core game do not have the same target audience.
We already knew about this right? Like from the beginning when they said we had to use throwing movements to catch Pokémon. A pro controller isn’t really conductive to that scenario so I’m not surprised. I still haven’t picked up the pro controller and at this point I doubt I will with it being $70 and me playing handheld 95% of the time.
Actually after reading through more comments I’m wondering if the game can be played in handheld mode. The article mentions some touch screen abilities but doesn’t elaborate. If I have to play in tabletop mode my preorder will turn into a Diablo purchase.
@Anti-Matter
Im not swearing at you, im swearing at the game in general. Yeah im salty, i dont get what game companies are thinking these days, sure they wanted to attract more new audience to their games and make easy money but it doesnt mean they have to dump their long time fans in the process. Its happening now too with blizzard and thier diablo IP......
I know this is not a mainline pokemon game, but i fear now that mainline games are going to take references based on this casualised version of it depending on its success. The worldbuilding in this game is exactly the same like the gba game!! Just except they pasted a more fancy skin over it. This is not innovation. All they do is add gimmicks to an old gba game polish its graphics and thats it. What happen if pkmn 2019 was like this as well??
Im really negative about what nintendo has done to this beloved franchise but oh well ultimately ill vote with my wallet and be hopeful we see a AAA pkmn game in 2019.
Have everyone of you people forgot the reason people are getting the poke ball??? Because its the only way to obtain MEW
Some baffling decisions regarding the Switch this year and this is another game along with Mario Party that I will not be buying due to the stupidity over control schemes. I'd had enough of motion controls 10 years ago with the Wii and have no desire to use them again
@DownRightSam Nope, it does.
Nope, was going to but I have this thing called "if I wanted to do physical activity while playing a game, I'LL GO OUTSIDE." Nintendo need to stop doing this.
I’m again curious for those calling this a spinoff where exactly has this been stated? Most of what I’ve read from developers haven’t stated it one way or another. Though in his interview with Pokémon.com, Masuda refers to them as main Pokémon RPGs.
I feel like we knew this already
I am so sick of this. First it was Mario Party and then this. I should be able to play however I want.
@Abes3 i did say theres no reason not to map the motion controls to a buttons on the pro controller none at all every pokemon game has worked with traditional controllers i like to sit back in my chair when i play not throwing my arms around like a idiot....i swear motion gaming is a just dumb it really doesnt add anything and is just another reason for nintendo to come out with a peripheral for one game. its not like i can use the 50$ pokeball controller for any other game.
@UmbreonsPapa its a cross breed its part pokemon go(not part of main series) and part pokemon yellow(main entry) this in my mind is what happens when someone goes lets remake pokemon yellow, then some kid is there and is say i like pokemon go, and the father decides we will combine both, the stupid idea of throwing a ball every time you want to catch a pokemon, with the remake of yellow..
the other reason why people say this including myself is cause nintendo themselves have said a "core pokemon game is coming in 2019" this was at the same time they announced pokemon go yada yada im sorry that name is to damn long for a pokemon game.
Thanks To this you saved me some money! I would've been pissed if I had opened it day one and not known, that's so weird a rep at this years EGX told me they were gonna "probably patch it in " well I will wait, thank you very much!
@smithpa01 A while ago it was confirmed that the game could be played without motion controls in handheld mode. You can simply press A to throw the poke ball and no motion will be used. When it comes to tabletop and docked mode, i think it's mandatory to use motion controls...
I don’t get why people get upset when a casual game doesn’t support the pro controller. It’s so much more lax than having to keep your hands together to hold a pro controller.
Annnnnnnnd imminent extreme failure for the Let's Go series in 3...
2...
1...
@SEM theres no reason to not to thats the problem, pokemon has been find without you looking liike a idiot throwing a imaginary ball or waggling a controller....its doesnt add anything to a non vr game and only reason i can see this being this way is to try and get people to buy the poke ball thing....i dont like waggling or throwing my arms around to play my games its the reason i dont buy games like mario party that require me to do that...
@Abes3 in reference to post 74 You know I was thinking along the same ones as you about a pro controller not being good for this game. Then I started thinking about how I play predominantly in handheld mode. I had no interest in playing tabletop mode so I can use motion controls which got me looking up whether you can play without motion controls and based on everything I’ve seen the answer is yes and that you flick the joystick to emulate throwing the pokeball. If this is true and you can play in handheld mode ( 2 joycons) I hardly see why one can’t use the pro controller. While I imagine many people would use joycons anyway I don’t know why the game would not support the pro controller and alienate people in one fell swoop.
@Almighty-Koz see I don't mind motion controls. It's one of the handful of things that seperate Nintendo from my PS4/Xbox. I think it's why I love Nintendo, they're always different and offer different expirences. If I wanted to play a standard shump, I'd pick up my PS4. Nintendo make and publish 'Nintendo' games, I guess if you don't like what they do and how they do it then simply, don't buy into Nintendo.
@Frenean For many reasons. They Joy Cons are incredibly small and uncomfortable to hold. Playing with non-gamers is a nightmare, my friends kept asking what buttons to press and I couldn't just say "A" because the left Joy Cons don't have labeled buttons, so you end up having to point at your controller and say "this button". The only mini-game that uses motion well is "Sizzling Stakes", the one where you hold the Joy Con as if it were the handle of a frying pan. Yet even that game could be done with a Pro Controller as it has motion controls built in. The Pro Controllers have HD Rumble as well, so even those games would no problem. The rest of the "motion" games really just make you "waggle" to trigger an action that could easily have been done with the press of a button. Also, I already had 4 Pro Controllers but only 2 Joy Cons, so I had to buy 2 more just to have a full game of Mario Party. I just wish they would just let you choose what controller you want to use like in Mario Kart.
@GlennW interesting everything i have read previously suggests it was mandatory but after a quick search i found a few articles saying that it isn't
Next year's news: Mario Kart 9 will not be playable with the Pro Controller 😅
I already pre-ordered the pokéball controller, but I’m not a big fan of this.
@Abes3 never said i dont like what nintendo does im saying its a idiotic thing to not include standard controls as i havent seen the throwing mechanism do anything that a simple button push cant do...im not saying get rid of motion controls i think they are a gimmick but others like them, what im saying is theres NO REASON for them not mapping it to a button for those of us who dont want to throw a poke ball for 30 hours or more of gameplay. its gonna get annoying after a while i believe and its not for me.
Honestly, I wouldn't have expected Pro Controller support. The catching mechanic is all motion-control based. While the Pro Controller supports motion controls, I'd think it would be pretty awkward and could easily slip out of one's hand when trying to catch a Pokémon and get those Nice and Great, and Excellent curve throws in. The Switch comes with Joy Con out of the box, so you already have all the controllers you need. And you can get the optional Pokeball Plus for a bit more "realistic" control and of course get some nice Pokémon GO Plus support while you're at it. Frankly enough has been shown about this game now that if people are still not on board, they won't be. And that's fine. If Let's Go isn't your thing, then get one of the other thousand+ games available for Switch and move on with your life. There's also the 2019 "traditional" Pokémon game incoming so hold on to your pants, life will go on if you don't buy the Let's Go games.
I really need Pro Controller is good ergonomics.
Hey Guise... Don't Blame Nintendo... They are not the developer... Ignorance is not always bliss my friends and you should remove that stick shaped Nintendo device from your mouth or rear end before speaking. Can we stop pretending that Nintendo has not say in what controls are allowed in their games. I mean they forced Dinosaur Planet to become Star Fox Adventure and even that was not enough to save that pile of poo. Nintendo may not have made the first decision to not include support, but they signed off on it, which is just as bad. Was thinking about purchasing, but now is a nibelsnarf that garbage poop game. Need to read on more games going forward. Not sure how a simple input device cannot be supported by all games as it has the same up/down/left/right/a/b buttons on it. Nintendo is nibelsnarfing over people that buy and play their games by allowing ignorance like this. This goes beyond forcing expensive screw the fanboy NES Joycons into only working on NEW games. It is unecessary, pointless and punishing for no reason.
@bound4earth Let's not use profanity here, please...
@Anti-Matter first i know alot of gamers who were going to try this as first pokemon and all stepped away after seeing this mess , first most adults and older teenage men have big hands joycon is for little jap girls. i cant use one its impossible and clunky and in 2018 its sad and lazy that they couldn't give us option to let us even use the dam sticks attaching to controller its stupid and only fanboy would think this anti consumer BS is good because as my first pokemon game ever i returned this morning i have way better games then wasting time on garbage that does not fit my hand , whats funny is when you play handheld why does it work there both sticks but not when you attach them to controller add on its same thing but it reads joy cons as two separate controllers instead of one combined like it does in handheld mode its more examples of Nintendo making stupid choices like a phone app for voice chat lol no mii verse made switch online dead community its sad.
i am going to blame them because its there system and Nintendo has last say on whats on there system same as it was there utter stupid choice to use a phone app for voice in 2018 and why they have no community left and online games are garbage now days because no mii verse and yet lets see they want money for online lol when they dont give us anything but garbage games from 30 years ago that we dont get to keep at least we get keep games on ps4 and xbox as long were members and also they have service like psn and live Nintendo does not it was miiverse .
