You may recall that, way back in Janurary, Freedom Planet developer GalaxyTrail provided us with a cheeky Facebook tease, suggesting that the game might be headed to Switch. As it turns out, that happened to be a joke that got out of hand, but the studio quickly began to think about its options. Of course, it's been quite some time since then, but it seems the project is indeed going ahead.
This new photograph shows what appears to be the game's menu running successfully on Nintendo's console. We already know that the developer is keen to bring Freedom Planet to Switch, and this certainly gives us more hope in seeing that become a reality.
We enjoyed the 2D Sonic-inspired stages in our review of the Wii U version, and it seems that the game could feel right at home on the Switch's eShop alongside the likes of Sonic Mania. Hopefully we'll receive some news on potential release dates for the game soon.
Did you play the game on Wii U? Would you like to see it arrive on Switch? Let us know your thoughts below.

Might not be hyping anything, but will see what happens.
The only thing interesting to me about Freedom Planet is the cover art, as it was drawn by one of my favourite digital artists
Freedom planet was a lot of fun on Wii U.
Can’t say I really feel the need to double dip, but I would be down for a sequel on Switch.
I quite enjoyed the game but never got round to finishing it. I think if I ever get the urge to play it again I'll probably just do so on my Wii U. I will definitely get the sequel for my Switch though. I'm pretty sure they announced that was coming anyway?
I liked, but didn't love Freedom Planet. The best Sonic games had sufficiently long stages that never overstayed their welcome. Freedom Planet's levels were a little too long to elicit the "just one more go" platformers thrive on.
I picked this up in that humble nindies bundle, I enjoyed it but never finished it. I may pick it up on sale for switch.
Please! It's one of literally a handful of games which keeps me from trading my WiiU.
I do have it on Steam and enjoyed it quite a bit too for the one playthrough that I did. Maybe I will double dip if the price and time is right.
It would be wonderful for a port to happen, Freedom Planet is the only indie game I bought on Wii U that hasn't already been ported to Switch.
One of the few games I bought on Wii U, I enjoyed it and would not mind if it hit the Switch. Ran into a glitches though.
This dumb gag wasn't funny in January and it's even worse now. I just want to know what makes them think it's okay for them to taunt Switch owners like this again.
Good game at the time on the Wii u. My Wii u is not going anywhere
Silly silly!
This is probably happening after all.
Freedom Planet is developed using something called Clickteam Fusion, similar to Game Maker.
Fusion's default building options leave something to be desired, but a runtime called Chowdren makes it possible to compile Fusion applications for other platforms and systems.
This is how the Wii U version of Freedom Planet was possible, as well as the Wii U and 3DS versions of AVGN Adventures.

Chowdren's website now cites support for Nintendo Switch, and Freedom Planet will likely be the first Chowdren compiled title for the Switch.
Give it to meeeeeeeee noooooooooooooooooooaaaw!
@RupeeClock I made a few basic game ideas in Game Maker, it is pretty cool for sure, never heard of Clickteam Fusion though.
I played the demo for this game it it is awesome, I would compare it to a cross between Sonic, Rocket Knight, with a little MegaMan X sprinkled in.
@Jokerwolf Clickteam Fusion dates back to previous iterations like Multimedia Fusion, The Games Factory, and Europress Klik 'n Play. It's touted as a very user friendly game creator where you place assets on a stage and program them with an events table.
It's a popular choice for fan games such as Sonic Before the Sequel and After the Sequel.
@RupeeClock Klik 'n Play, now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I actually had some fun messing around with a demo of it.
I probably won't double dip for this game though, even though I had fun playing it. Might go back to playing it again as I never played as the other characters.
This was one of the absolute best Wii U E-shop games and as a result I played it so much that I am not too particularly interested in double dipping, Freedom Planet 2 would be a must get though. This game was just the thing for fans of old school sonic gameplay pre Sonic Mania.
Wasn’t a bad game on Wii U. The cut scenes, voices, and story were... well, pretty horrible. Sorry. Maybe it’s just that anime style that turns me off. The gameplay is something I’d like to revisit though. Could be tough sitting next to Sonic Mania.
wonder if the sequel is still forthcoming.
Bit pointless now Sonic Mania is a thing on the Switch.
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again. " George W Bush.
Would rather have a sequel
Not a bad game, but after getting Sonic Mania my desire to play this game has really gone away. I still got it on Wii U, it isn't the kind of game I would double dip for. If they were making a sequel that would actually get me somewhat excited.
@Baker1000 They're working on a sequel,it got a PC demo a while ago.
How bout make Freedom Planet 2 and bundle it alongside part 1 and sell it for $20 on the Switch eShop then I'll buy it.
@bluesdance http://freedomplanet2.com
Due out early 2019.
The game is underrated and I'd definitely like part 2 on the Switch.
The only question is whether I should double dip. It's a lovely game.
