Nintendo Switch is set to get a new real-time strategy title in the form of Mushroom Wars 2, which is due to make war upon the Switch eShop on 5th July. The cross-platform title already has 1.8 million players on other platforms, so Ninty's console is about to join the short-session fungal warfare party...
There's a whole story campaign (complete with boss battles) for those that prefer to game alone, but the real selling point is its co-op and multiplayer, with up to four players taking one another on 2v2 battles. The game comes with 90 multiplayer maps to choose from, and a host of hero characters to help turn the tide should things be going awry. There's also going to be support for ranked matches and league play, opening up the door for a burgeoning competitive scene.

My family played the original a lot during the PS3 days, I'm excited!
I never pass up the opportunity to go on a trippy shroom adventure.
Looks like a creative RTS. I also really like how competitive it looks. Day 1 for me
Love me some rts so this will probably be a day one purchase for me
For a second I thought this was a sequel to the Wii action platformer "Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars" and thought what an obscure title to revitalise with a sequel, but kinda cool bringing it to Switch... now I'm a lil disappointed.
Sure this game will be cool too though.
This is going to be great fun. The original for this and pixeljunk monsters I played ages back in early PS3 days. Hope we see both firsts come as well.. little underwhelmed I got through Pixeljunk Monsters 2 rather quickly.
Played the first game a ton on PS3. I think I completed every mission in easy, normal and hard. Then my family and I played a ton of mutliplayer, we even bought the multiplayer map add-on.
Then there was a mobile version and it was rubbish. Game just couldn't control correctly on a touchscreen.
This game is on mobile now - downloaded it this morning but haven't had a chance to try it yet - and it came out on Steam last October for $17.99. So I'm a bit unsure what to think. Is it one of the best RTS games I've ever played, or mobile on Switch w/ horrible controls? Could REALLY use a demo on this one.
If anybody has any experience w/ 2 they'd like to share I started a forum thread last night after seeing the game in the eShop and becoming very excited. My whole family is excited.

@Kimyonaakuma Yeah, it was actually really good. A very Nintendo'y game in terms of taking a genre and boiling it down to it's essence its "fun-core", if you will. It could also get pretty challenging at times as well, as it was certainly not push over.
This is mushroom genocide! I cant watch! (Covers his eyes.)
I loved playing RTS titles on PC back in middle school and high school... and then I finally got internet, played against other people, and realized just how bad I was at them. lol
But that is fine. For games like this I prefer playing alone on lower difficulties and pretending I am a God-King. In Civilization I usually Nuke my neighbors right before I launch the last rocket for the science victory, just cause I can.
@rjejr This is the type of game my son and I live for. We played Pikmin 3 to death against each other and I feel like this will be the new Pikmin 3.
@Spoony_Tech Did you have a chance to play the first one on PS3 or something similar? I think it has to be the greatest math game ever invented. My kids were much younger then but my oldest could beat me if I wasn't on top of my game. He and I had to take it easy when we did 3 or 4 player. But at the time I hadn't seen anything like it and really I haven't seen anything like it since.
I am a bit nervous though about them either dumbing it down or making it too hard. So many games I've liked the original of, the sequel has let me down. Swords & Soldiers destroyed itself in the sequel, Plants vs Zombies went free-to-play in the sequel. This game on mobile just didn't work. I've downloaded MW2 to my $100 phone but it wasn't up to the challenge.
If it's like the original though, Switch fans are in for a wonderful treat. 2 player vs. should be perfect w/ 2 Joycon I think.
That trailer, w/ that disinterested girl though. Why not show a dweeb guy screaming w/ excitement, this isn't Happy Home Designer it's a fast paced fight for your life game.
@rjejr I personally would rather see the girl then some dweeb! Never played the original.
Looks great. I just got PixelJunk Monsters 2 so I’m glad this one doesn’t come out until July
@Ralek85 I remember it making me quite frustrated at first (I was young though, I'm mors controlled now! 😂), but I appreciated the difficulty as I played more.
I agree that it is quite a Nintendo like design, but I think it's simplicity is part of what makes it fun. The original was hard but it always felt like it was my fault, so at least it was fair. I didn't know about a sequel but hopefully this is just as good!
I read this twice, still assumed it was tied to Mushroom Men.
I disappointed myself.
@Spoony_Tech "Never played the original."
You missed out. And I'd rather see a girl as well but it makes for a lame commercial.
To arms Toad!
