The devil makes work for idle hands, and in the case of Twitter user @november17, that involves painstakingly removing Mario's facial hair for kicks.
A quite innocent use of spare time you might assume, but when the resultant image was posted on Twitter, things went a bit sideways.

The post has - at the time of writing - been retweeted more than 52,000 times and (for some reason) has over 160,000 likes. Why isn't there a dislike button?
As you might expect, this nightmarish vision has attracted thousands of comments too, with some Twitter users struggling to hide their disgust while drawing some worrying comparisons at the same time:

This has to be the best reaction image, though.

He looks like Elmer Fudd!
Chemo Mario!
God help us!
The look suits him
WHY DID I LOOK!

Must never share this picture!
I am the Glob-glo-gap-galap and so on and so forth.
I’m scarred for life.
There really is something about facial hair that after you've seen someone with a beard or moustache long enough, you just cant imagine it any other way.
Ok I normally don't do this because someone else does it before me but you've given credit to the wrong guy. This is stolen. @yourfavisbald2 is the actual person who 'painstakingly removed Mario's facial hair for kicks'.
We know Fix-it Felix Jr, now we have just seen Fix-it Felix Sr in his younger years.
@TeeJay I mean, what ELSE does one have a "weirdness" tag for?
Has this not already been a thing? Like a straight on shot?
The ‘tache I can cope with, but why shave off his sideburns too? Why?!?
Cursed image.
Wait till you see bald Peach...
@abe_hikura I can think of it from Baby Mario and from flashbacks in the mario and Wario comic from Nintendo power, and when you flipped it upside down on mario 64 to make it look like shades... but other than that, mario’s Had his tache.
@SmaggTheSmug “I’m a-hunting wabbids”
So Mario was secretly Curly of 3 stooges fame.
He looks like bob the builder
@SmaggTheSmug @StuTwo Basically the plot of Mario+Rabbids
No shave November < No hair November
Some comparisons to help you cope through laughter. Mario looks like:
1.) He's about to audition for the Blue Man Group
2.) Caillou
3.) Gru/one of the minions
4.) a Rabbid
I honestly have no idea why people are upset by this
Mari-NO!
Who doesn't look monstrous with their eye brows, scalp and face completely shaven?
It would have been much more interesting had they left the sideburns and eye brows, and just removed the moustache.
That's enough internet for today.....
I can deal with the lack of mustache, but the lack of eyebrows is the part that's bugging me.
@Nookingtons Slow news day.
He looks like Mini Me; or in this case Mini Mii.
I would have been quite happy living the rest of my life never seeing adult baby mario.
....... This is even more scary than chuck norris farting with so much pressure that created the infinity stones....
@abe_hikura I thought someone had already removed his mustache in a picture that went around last year. In fact, I seem to remember an article right here on Nintendo Life with the picture. And it certainly wasn't as frightening looking as this
@Nookingtons
People are reacting on twitter! OMG /sarcasim.
Yeah nothing new.
someone put a simon belmont face on him so he can be a real video game hero.
So wrong!
Should have left the eyebrows... and sideburns.
that's just creepy.
@SmaggTheSmug that’s exactly what I was thinking!
holy hell nintendo life, do you have nothing better to do? this has got to be years old
looks like Caliou
Looks like an adult baby mario....oh wait it is. What is the problem again? Are men really that attached to facial hair?
@Ryu_Niiyama our eyebrows
@SmaggTheSmug That's exactly what I said.
If ever there was a time for brain-bleach....it's now.
Let's have this version of Mario in a hunter's outfit with a shot gun as he would try to hunt down Nabbit.
@ValhallaOutcast But less whiny
"Mario without hair? Can't be that ba-"
Sees picture
"Kill it. Kill it now."
Please don't become another site "reporting" on Twitter memes all the time. Twitter is a cancer on the internet... It explodes about something new every 27 seconds...
As to the picture itself. WOW, and I thought I was baby faced when I shaved off my beard, but this is literal!
I saw a picture like this back in elementary school and it freaked me out. Why must you bring this back to me!?!?!?
@Heavyarms55 Agreed. While I'm not against posts like these, I don't think memes like this should linger on the news feed. Perhaps put a "humor" section or something to the side. It just seems unfitting compared to the rest of the feed.
@ValhallaOutcast you can pencil those back in...
To me, it's not Mario. But a Baby's face!!
...I have a feeling I know who was behind this...

Oh god, my eyes. Why?!
we need an amiibo of this.
Could someone please put together an image of Mario with ONLY his mustache shaved off? With his eyebrows and sideburns intact? This feels misleading, anyone looks odd without eyebrows, I’d rather seen an image of him just shaving the stache, I’m curious now.
He looks like Elmer Fudd. XD
The lovechild of Elmer Fudd and fix-it felix
Do Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and Dr Robotnic next.
lol
My favorite news site, reporting on stolen unoriginal twitter memes. Lovely.
Why remove the eyebrows? Now he looks like a cancer patient who has had chemo.
Kill it with fire before it lays eggs
Of course it's creepy, he doesn't have eyebrows.
Never underestimate the power of eyebrows!
Terrible, just terrible. Poor Mario!
