Scribblenauts is a franchise that has been popular on Nintendo systems since the days of the Nintendo DS, though it hasn’t gotten a new entry in a number of years after failing to meet sales expectations. After the development studio, 5th Cell, had significant layoffs and Warner Brothers cancelled it’s then-upcoming Scribblenauts game, it seemed that the franchise was dead in the water. However, now there’s evidence that seems to point towards a new Scribblenauts game on the horizon.
Nintendo Everything found a listing on a Taiwanese game rating board for Scribblenauts Showdown, which was listed for a multiplatform release with Switch included. The listing has been taken down at this time, but perhaps Warner Bros. is deciding to give 5th Cell another chance to get the franchise off the ground now that some time has passed since the last release. As ever, take this with a grain of salt until an official announcement, but don’t be surprised if this one maybe shows up in the next Nintendo Direct.

Meh, Super Scribblenauts was good, the next couple weren't
If a new Scribblenauts game came to the Switch, I would genuinely cry. Was very disappointed when 5th Cell saw huge layoffs after Scribblenauts Fighting Words got canned. Hopefully this is it's comeback?
I'd be down with a Scribblenauts game for Switch. They need to put in the work to improve and expand on the series though if they do revive it. If it's basically just the exact same thing as before but on the Switch, I'm somewhat less interested.
I liked the idea of Scribblenauts, but I never liked the game - tried and tried, but couldn’t get into it. I’m sure (to misquote Field of Dreams) if they make it, it will sell
Thoroughly enjoyed the first two but never got round to getting any of the games after that. Enabling the use of adjectives in Super Scribblenauts was awesome. I'd sometimes just spend my time messing about at the title screen spawning all kinds of crazy things. Really my only problem with it was the puzzles were much easier than the first game. If a new Scribblenauts comes out with really great puzzle design for the Switch, I can easily see myself spending hours upon hours playing it.
Played and enjoyed the two games on DS and I'd be interested in playing on Switch too, especially since I missed Unlimited in the Wii U
Only if I can create a pile of cr*ck, p*rn and avacado t*ts.
Or maybe I binge watched too much Sonic for Hire.
Please be real! I loved playing Unlimited on the 3DS, and would gladly pick up another game in the series.
Would love this, especially if it had a focus on multiplayer! These games are one of my favourite sandbox experiences
The problem with this series is that once you make a game where you can create just about anything, there isn't really anywhere to go from there. Nobody was going to bother with "Now you can create anything, and also DC characters!"
I am genuinely curious how Scribblenauts will fare in comparison to other consoles. It feels like during the Wii U era we saw people expanding into the PS4 because the market needed them to expand, though saw "okay" success with the other systems.
With Indies and traditional developers alike seeing pretty impressive sales on the Switch, even WITH late ports, curious how this will reverberate with games such as this and Megaman.
Scribblenauts is really the kind of game that should be released once a generation. Trying to annualize it just drove it into the ground. I was way too burned out after Scribblenauts Unlimited to get Unmasked, but at this point I think I'm ready for another one.
Scribblenauts is a perfect game for Switch so I'd welcome it's long overdue return.
Awesome! I was a fan of the DS orginal, and I'll be all over this on Switch.
Scribblenauts Unlimited literally allowed you to create new objects and share them in addition to the very extensive dictionary. Unless they change something, it's just not the kind of game that needs constant releases.
Still waiting on that second game on Wii U to release. Did we ever get an official reason what happened to that in UK?
Would be down for an iteration on Switch.
@shaneoh I still need to get super scribblenauts. I had the original but the touch controls always bugged me
