The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game not just defined by the big moments, but also the small touches that aren't needed as such, but add a lot of character to the experience. Whether it's surprise locations or funny dialogue there are a lot of these smaller moments, and the latest 'Tips from the Wild' news post on Switch shows one of them off.
It's a little animation - if you crouch when opening a chest Link will punch it, then shaking his hand after the impact. Rather like the start of the game when he hurts his bare foot on a chest, it's immediately charming.
The reward for opening the game from this news post is a Gerudo Scimitar, by the way.
What other little animations and small moments are your favourites in Breath of the Wild?

Other memorable small moments? Staring at Zelda's butt of course.
This “tip” seems a bit lazy, but the Gerudo Scimitar isn’t a half bad gift.
LOL! I didn't even think to try this. I've never done it or seen any videos of anyone doing this.
Somehow noticed this pretty early on, but there’s probably a thousand other little things that have gone unnoticed. Still playing. I have to finish the story before I can call it my favorite game ever, but it’s pretty much my favorite game ever.
Most memorable non-useful part of the game was riding horseback full gallop at night along a hilltop range covered in tall grass in a pouring raining lightning storm with the lightning strikes causing little fires all around me as I rode. There was so much going on, so much color and darkness and mood, it was such a contrast to what I was expecting from all of those slow boring bright lit mid-day trailers Nintendo had been using to promote the game.
Most memorable moments are using trees as a mode of transportation as well as a weapon.
My favourite detail is the sand seal's animation when you through a bomb next to it. I't like a Japanese anime. Makes me laugh every time.
Details that bothered me because I am always admiring everything in the game:
The blood moon is absolutely stunning, but all the reflections are white instead of red.
Also the light doesn't change at night depending on the moon and clouds.
My son discovered that I remember him calling me to show me. Brilliant!
How about this ?
So many good moments in this game, the first time I went into the Lost Woods, the mist and the music combo....sunset on the beach...getting butted by a goat and tumbling for ages down a hill after a long climb, only for it to start raining.
I like to kick them barefooted. The small hurt animation cycle is hilarious.
I discovered the crouch punch for myself and instantly laughed, appreciating the detail Nintendo put in this game. Other things that are still funny to me are taking the Lord of the Mountain and Stalhorse to a stable
@Anti-Matter Don’t know what I just watched, but it was hilarious.🤣
I've had it since launch and did not know about this.
Easily my favourite little animation is the fact that when you set off a bomb Link quickly pulls out the Sheika Slate and uses it as a remote detonator
Another one was when I first reached Fort Hateno, I had to jump off the horse in awe at the remains of the guardians, you could only imagine what sort of epic battle had taken place there. I've been playing it nearly every day for the past 5 weeks, still haven't finished it (shrine hunting) and I still find something new every day.
I know about the punch ages ago from Mety YouTube videos
@WiltonRoots - Ha, incredible. I ragdolled down what felt like the entire Hebra mountain range once. Kind of ashamed to admit that a goat once killed me. I don’t fast travel, and hoard my food to a fault. Early on I was trying to make it back to Kakariko on a sliver of heart. Decided to try and harvest a little delicious goat meat along the way. It all went horribly wrong. That was the most embarrassing game over I saw early in the game.
@bimmy-lee Another was where I hacked a guardian to pieces while low on hearts, it started to explode and I was standing there admiring my handiwork for a second feeling smug, as soon the explosion cleared there was a bokoblin standing there with a bow and arrow, one pathetic arrow shot killed me stone dead and the bokoblin was just standing there with a big smile on his face as I fell to the ground.
@WiltonRoots - Man oh man, priceless. I’ve never felt terror quite like alerting a guardian early in the game. I managed to get two of them locked on to me in Hyrule field, and I ended up just running around in a panicked circle until they put me out of my misery. Pretty sure I was sweating IRL after that. I’ve never played a game with such diversity in highs (jumping off a mountain and clearing out a Bokoblin camp in slow motion before I hit the ground) and lows (getting bucked off a mountain/killed by a goat). I’ve also never been in such awe in a game before. Summiting a mountain and just gazing at the sights, dragons flying in the sky, giant mech lizard on a volcano, shooting stars, ambient sounds. Just incredible. Couldn’t disagree more with the contrarians who love to say the game is empty. It’s bursting with life.
@Anti-Matter That video right there should just be played at the Game Awards during the nominee list for GOTY. It will be unanimous. 😂
This game is STILL flippin' amazing.
@Anti-Matter Can’t decide which bit amused me more, the triumphant yet fatalistic jumping at the end, or the casual roadkill as he ran over a fox without stopping...
