Rayman Legends is a game we love here at NL Towers, and our review of the Wii U original should be more than testament to that. So the same game coming out on the Switch with not only new content, but also at a bargain price should have us frothing at the mouth.
Getting our hands on it however brings a dawning realisation; it's almost exactly the same. We're chuffed that we'll finally be able to play it on the go, but the actual new content amounts to little more than a tournament score-tracking system for the Kung Foot minigame. The touchscreen sections with Murfy from the Wii U version are bundled into a separate location, but for all intents and purposes it is exactly the same content.
Make sure you check out the video above where you can see all the new content in an unsurprisingly short amount of time. It's still a whole lot of game for not very much money, but if you've played the Wii U original to death, you might want to have a think before picking this one up.

People need this game, plain and simple. Easily one of the best platformers of the decade
Never bought it on Wii U, as I didn't like the touch screen nonsense. I played the demo on Switch and really enjoyed it, so I'll probably buy the full game.
I never even got close to beating it, but I'm still planning on downloading it to my Switch.
I was blown away by the demo. Looking forward to this one
Already played and finished the game on vita ... + the game used to be free on Xbox or PS4 not sure ! why bother to guy again ?
It's a port of course. Great game, but I own it already on Wii U, like so many of Switch's ports/games.
The single best 2D platformer in my honest opinion. Absolutely can't wait to play it on a console I actually like!
I'm Probably one of the few that didn't enjoy this on Wii U so sadly don't feel the need to buy it again
Well... not everyone bought a WII U. People who've missed it for any reason they get the chance to grab it. And kind of pitty nothing about load times. On Xbox 360 load times were just horrible and WII U was almost hardware wise close to. On Xbox one it got also re-released and load times were reduced a lot. Upgrade from WII U to Switch i'm sure the load times will also be decreased. Why nothing about that?
I'll get this when my Wii U usage is negligible, which probably won't be for about another year.
I enjoyed the demo on the switch and ended up buying it for the Wii u. Great game. Great price too. If you have a Wii u. You can pick this up for around 8 pounds
I've already played it on the Wii U, but just being on the Switch is enough reason for me to play it again. I love handheld mode and everything is better on the Switch. Plus I haven't touched my Wii U in over a year and a half and probably never will again.
And anyone is really surprised by that ?
Is basically a combination of previous versions. The WiiU had the Murphy stages, other consoles changed them to regular ones. Now you have both. Best of both worlds.
For anyone who hasn't played it: Get it. Don's ask, just get it if you have any interest in platformers.
For owners of the WiiU version, the handheld mode might be a welcome addition.
Wasn't able to grab anyone in my family which is surprising since my wife and kids play stuff like Mario Maker, Yarn Yoshi, Tropical Freeze, Shovel Knight, New Super Luigi, Cave Story, Freedom Planet, etc. nearly every day.
Rayman Legends bores everyone here, very few of the stage gimmicks are any fun, instead most are just an annoying chore. And it often feels too easy with only filler to compensate.
We all thought Origins was just OK, so I guess their response should have been more expected. But we find something about Legends particularly revolting. I'd rather bang my head against the very first game's difficulty wall myself.
Hmm I won't rush to get this version.
My brother and I 100%'d it on wii u back when it first came out.
Personally I much prefered Rayman Origins on wii.
Still a great game, mind.
Forgot to buy it on wiiu so I'll get it now.
Loved it on wii u but give it miss me thinks
No reason to buy it again, played it years ago...Only memorable parts for me were the awesome music levels. (and the 8-bit versions)
Would have liked to see every origins level in this. But alas. Good to know I can stay away.
Guess there's no stopping me just playing Origins again.
Rayman Legends: An Awesome Game Trolling Fans Since 2013
It deserves as many players as possible, but I'll stick to the Wii U version.
@RyanSilberman
I was honestly shocked by how fantastic it was. So many smiles dawned unexpectedly. So many pause and "you gotta come see this" moments. Akin to DKC:Tropical Freeze or Luigi U.
Only bought it for Wii U because it was clearance. Thought I didn't like Rayman. HAHA turns out I was just plain stupid. Easy to skip if you have it for Wii U, but a great game. Perhaps a NEW Rayman will be hot on its heels...
Shame, I was hoping it would have something new to play. Great game though, one of my favourite Wii u games and a great use of the gamepad at the time.
The demo didn't convince me I needed this one, so I'll spend the next few months enjoying Metroid and Mario Odyssey, along with some old favorites.
@peeks same here... Have both on my VITA. Better stuff on the 3ds/PS4 for 40 dollars.
Somehow, I just don't like it. Love platformers, picked this up, tried 4-5 times to really get into it, but no, just not really. Not sure if it's non-linearity, or it's somewhat floaty attacks, but I just couldn't see it to completion. It's beautiful in all sense of the word, but just didn't click with me. Am I the only one?
@peeks I think you are thinking of Rayman origins (the prequel kinda) which was a famed with gold game a year or two ago.
Looking forward to this. Debating whether to get at launch or not. Will likely wait due to being a cheap tightwad.
Loved Origins on PS3. Is Legends just as good? Hoping for an all-new 2D Rayman sooner or later too!
Awesome game, loved it on Wii U.
Saving my money for Mario Odyssey so this will have to wait until later.
Missed this first time around so I'll be snaffling this one up
If you missed it on the Wii-U or anything else, go ahead and buy it's a very good platformer.
Was anyone expecting the Switch version to be drastically different? The graphics were obviously not too much for even the Wii U to handle. I understand its the "definitive edition" but for a game like this, the only differences I think one could realistically expect might be some more characters and levels, and that'd be about it, its obviously not an entirely new game here.
@justin233 Legends is better than Origins.
I'm not in a hurry as I have it on several platforms already but a great game to compliment the Switch library nonetheless-- port or not. If you haven't played it yet and enjoy platformers you will not be disappointed.
Well, did you guys expect more? It was obvious that it is direct port.
Half tempted if I see it cheap to play it without all the touch screen nonsense from the Wii U version. Not sure though, I'd rather just go back and at Origins on the Xbox 1, which was the better get IMHO.
@WaveBoy If this game is so bad in your opinion, what are some good, fun, intelligent platformers? I'm honestly curious.
@Proust Nintendo is one of the most prolific game developers. It's funny that you don't like ports, but your PS4 version of Rayman Legends is a port.
4 year old game with nothing new at $40 is a total rip off. Sheep Switch Lovers will eat this up instantly.
"Definitive"
Wait!?! No additional music levels?
That was my only hope was additional music levels.
@Proust Nintendo didn't recycle this, Ubisoft did.
I'll stick with the Wii U version since I still play my Wii U since TOAST!
Makes sense not to put too much effort in as its available on every platform in the last two gens.
Sensible.
It's a great game but if the new version is the same I won't be buying it.
40$ is not a great price guys... Better wait until it drops to 20$
Yeah they should've included more but it's a stunning game that should be played by more people.
I'm good with my Wii U version, which will probably remain the best way to play it anyway because that's the system it was designed for anyway. There are plenty more great Switch games coming between now and the end of the year that I really want to get and which I don't own on another platform already.
Murphy stages=no buy
Never played the Wii U (or any other) version, so if this gets released in Japan I'm sure I'll give it a try.
lazy
I have it on WiiU, Steam. Will definitely get the Switch version as well due to convenience sake.
Have the Wii U version, and Vita... but this one puts both in their place (on a shelf never to be used again)
Buy RayMan Legends if you never got it for Wii U, it's one of the best platformers since Donkey Tropical Freaze and Sonic Manic.
Did the Wii u have a demo? I never played any of it until the demo on the switch and will be buying it day one because of it.
New content present or not, everyone should get this game if they haven't played yet.
Spoiler: It gets a 10 on this very site! Reviewer will say its the best to play it on Switch!
I 100%'d this game years ago on the Wii U. It's a fantastic game, and my friends and I played it soon after my 25-year-old cat died. Sheer pain turned to relieved comfort, thanks to this game.
That said... I don't think I'll rebuy, for practical and sentimental reasons.
It has been a while since I have played... thinking about rebusing it. It will be like new to me.
While Legends has more content than Origins, I find it too easy with lots of gimmicks like tickling the enemies, cut-the-rope, etc. Origins is pure platforming at the highest order.
Tropical Freeze is better.
They should not have called this the definitive edition as it is basically just a port. That said, if you didn't play Legends already, buy it. It's a great game. It and Tropical Freeze are two of the best platformers and a long time. The Wii U version is my favorite version because it was supposed to be an exclusive in the first place and has Murphy, but if you didn't like his gameplay then get this version.
God I was so disappointed when I bought the Wii U version since it was literally the worst version of the game. I say that because half the levels I would have had a fun time playing myself instead forced me to play as Murphy and sit on the side lines as I tapped stuff...
If this version doesn't force you to be Murphy in single player then I would highly recommend buying it since the levels I DID get to play as Rayman were absolutely brilliant.
@gatorboi352 @TheSpeedyMouse
I'd say it is definitive.
If you want to use the touch screen like the Vita or Wii U you can
If you want to play with traditional controls like PS4 etc you can
You can play on TV in 1080p like the home Console versions.
You can play it off TV like the Wii U version.
You can play it on the go like the Vita version.
It's got a little bit of extra content.
It's not going to excite many people to double dip but it is definitive. Certainly the closest to that for now (until they make more formats for it to get released on)
It's a great platformer if you never played it on any previous version, but it really should have been a combo pack of both Origins and Legends at this juncture. Both games have been out for years.
I have the Wii U version and think I'll stick with it, can't see any reason to upgrade.
Being portable (I don't own a vita) is more than enough reason to own it. Plus, it's a new chance for the game to thrive since not everybody owned the Wii U.
waits patiently for a $20-30 price cut
I already have it on PC but having a portable/home version would be neat.
