Miitomo is now one year old in various territories, including the US and some European countries - it actually hit the landmark in Japan on 17th March. It's a notable anniversary, as it was the first mobile app to come out of the partnership between Nintendo and DeNA.
As a concept it was always rather intriguing, as it's a social app that is controlled in order to be 'safe' - initially it was primarily about answering set questions and sharing those answers with those on your friend list. After a quick start the app lost a fair bit of momentum, however - it didn't keep a sizeable audience engaged for long, and its revenues have never been much for Nintendo to boast about. It's actually evolved and improved a fair deal through updates over the past year, though many likely haven't been aware.
In any case, 31st March is the one year anniversary in some countries, and Nintendo is running a whole lot of giveaways, promotions and limited period Miitomo Coin gear. There's even a contest to design clothing that'll appear in the app.
As the official website shows, there's a lot going on over the next 10 days or so.
We suspect many left Miitomo behind quite some time ago, but if you're still dipping into the app let us know in the comments.

Instead of the Fire Emblem april fools I'd much rather get a Miitomo sequel joke.
Then again the original was a joke enough.
@Flanktwo
And even then, those coins are worthless.
Nintendo, please release Miitopia in USA & PAL version !
We want that game more than Miitomo.
This is like beating a dead horse. Why are they bothering with Miitomo? Nobody cares. Get DeNA to make something worthwhile. They're throwing money in the bin at this point!
Far out! I'll be celebrating my one year anniversary of deleting this pointless app next week!
obligatory who's still playing this comment.
(I use it every day still! the point is to not add a million people you don't care about which a lot of people (especially media people) seem to have done. of course that makes it completely boring and tedious!)
In Japan you could actually FOLLOW a couple of celebrities. Sadly that never came to the western version
Happy anniversary, app I deleted long ago and never looked back! 🎂
Happy anniversary miitomi.
This app is so great, why is everyone complaining. You get do dress your miis in lemon and strawberry outfits. Nintendo nailed it with the app. I think Nintendolife should review this app again.
Thank you Nintendo
@DarthNocturnal at least on switch you now get gold points for physical games (yes it's less, but they're worthless anyway and I would've never thought that they would give any points for physical games)
wait is this an april fools prank
Miitomo should have had a lot of the stuff they added in later right at launch. They have stuff now that mirrors the old "Everybody Votes" and "Check Mii Out" channels from the Wii days, and the ability to attach photos to posts and whatnot. For what it is, I still enjoy it - I still create a Miifoto every once in awhile and I use it a few times a week.
A year of nothingness. Just look at that crappy hat. Who would wear that manky thing?
Every day I logon, earn the points only to watch them expire further down the road because there's nothing good to trade them for on My Nintendo. Speaking of which, as of midnight tonight I can kiss goodbye to another 700 points.
@DarthNocturnal i'm not defending anything, i'm just pointing out that what you said was not correct.
Wow one year already out but not in 🇭🇷
This game is the definition of an April Fools' joke.
@DarthNocturnal it's not because the gold points are worthless. 12*zero worth = zero worth = 60*zero worth
...yea, you'd think a year should be enough time to make another picross game for My Nintendo ..the only reason I used Mehtomo..
I was definitely the last of my bunch to hold onto that app, but in the end it was just too boring. Loved some of the features in the pic editing part, but that was it. RIP Miitomo, even if 6 people are still playing it.
I honestly stopped playing Miitomo only a few weeks in since it didn't have much tangible to look forward to. I haven't checked it in a while though so it may be better now.
When Miitomo was updated to allow posters to be hung on the walls, I put up one of Strong Bad's motivational posters from the email "no loafing." I'd say that alone justifies Miitomo's existence.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE that's not too bad. I'm not too bothered about the platinum points. I'll be losing 80 gold coins, sadly nothing to spend it on that I don't have
So much negativity. That's all I can say...
"Nintendo does something I didn't like. That means nobody's playing it and it's a waste of money. Boo Nintendo, boo!"
I may have not used it too much, but it was fine for what it is. I still open it from time to time.
I always found this app, along with those two people on the Nintendo American YouTube channel a little patronising, I don't know why, they seem nice, and I'm sure they are gas craic (hmm) when not on YouTube, but, nah.
Clearly I gave a major problem with the lovely people who do the Nintendo YouTube channel, they are just being safe, company contract etc. Not their fault, they are just doing their job.
Scratch my last post. Nintendo need one app. That's it. One app. It's too confusing for the every day person. Seriously.
@SuperTeeter64 'So much negativity. That's all I can say...'
Its the internet. Negativity is part of it. But, I find, with any company, any small, or big company, negativity is vital to any company via le((?)I'm not French) internet, free marketing!
Pinch of salt with everything online is all I'll say
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You don't want that 1st Anniversary Hat ?
Gimme one.
I had honestly forgetten Miitomo still existed until this reminder!
@readyletsgo It's true. Sad. But true.
@Flanktwo I gave upnon farming after two weeks. It's like a part time job and I hate it.
@ThePoochyKid
+1
Here optimism is only a mirage, if it is something of Konami, Miitomo, Switch vs Wii U, or something that Nintendo having a slip, is enough to trigger the discomfort, discord and intolerance, and better not even want to comment here...
sigh...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I visit My Nintendo so rarely that I didn't even notice my points were expiring. That's a plain infuriating move on Nintendo's part.
I absolutely loved this game for the first couple days. Then when I realized it was about 5% of a Tomodachi Life game, I deleted it and went back to playing Tomodachi Life.
Miitomo is ironically kind of pointless in terms of collecting the points, though it's okay for what it is as a question/answer app.
It doesn't seem that it intrinscally offers much reward for most people, so the focus is on MyNintendo rewards, which are a bit meh because many people already have the games on discount or the games are available cheaper elsewhere.
@UK-Nintendo New rewards just added to MyNintendo. Not sure you'll be interested, but for 30 gold coins you can get Swapdoodle lessons. It's...something (if you have a 3DS).
Still nothing for Switch (couldn't they manage a theme even?), but some Metroid discounts. Is Metroid coming back or is it just a troll, celebrating a great franchise while not doing anything with it?
I don't mind Miitomo. Where else can I dress in just a loincloth?
@Sakura thanks for that. I'll check it out
