Mario Sports Superstars is getting closer to release, and it'll offer modes and gameplay options in five sports - Football / Soccer, Tennis, Baseball, Golf and Horse Racing. Naturally all five sports will be the most fun when playing as Bowser, or perhaps that's some of our own bias kicking in.

In any case, our video man Alex has given the sports a whirl to give you an idea of what to expect. Check out the video above and let us know what you think.

Dear Nintendo,
Its been years that Nintendo fans never get another Mario Strikers game. Please make another one and make for the switch.
All Nintendo fans
Who needs FIFA 18!
If this was on Switch......
@G0dlike Please no we need fifa 18. Want the system to sell millions and have "3rd party support" than yes Nintendo fans need fifa 18
@therealgamer
Haha, I was obviously joking!
I'm personally very excited to see what that most heinous of companies, EA, bring to the table regarding FIFA 18 for the Switch.
If it's good, I'd honestly have no need for my PS4 anymore
@therealgamer I've been waiting for a true sequel to Mario Power Tennis for 13 years...
@Equinox True but you need casuals to buy your system
Less we forget fifa didn't help wii u sell. This on the other hand would do OK for switch dam shame it wasn't a switch launch title. 3ds isnt going anywhere yet,E3 will bring more surprises for the little fellow
Can't wait! Seems like a great title!
I thought I wouldn't get this because amiibo cards are a huge scam and I figured it'd be more like the latest Mario Tennis games than Mario Golf World Tour, but I don't know. It looks like it plays pretty well, and the Star characters won't matter so much if only playing local multiplayer.
@World
Same here, this is turning out to be really intriguing.
Unless it has an opening cutscene featuring Wario and Waluigi attempting to sabotage the competition, I'm not interested.
@StephenYap3
You do know that Mario Tennis came to the 3DS and WiiU, right? Ultra Smash is a half-boiled iteration, but it is still Mario Tennis at its core and the gameplay is fine... the presentation, however, is very bland.
They seem to have kept the zany nonsense to a minimum.
@NintySnesMan
FIFA on the WiiU didn't really offer anything different from the PS3/XB version... at the very least, the Switch version will offer portability. The Vita had portable FIFA, but we don't know if that might be the reason that any Vitas were sold.
Maybe actually have the release date in the article.
Information is good.
Is the Tennis and Golf gameplay significantly different from Open and World Tour?
How many Golf course are there? Are any from Open?
Does this run/control differently on the New 3DS?
A WiiU version would have been so nice... I wonder if it was planned, but they quit development after Tennis, so they just released that as Ultra Smash?
@holygeez03
I have a vita but didn't buy it for fifa,bought it for uncharted. Fifa didn't sell to good on vita then EA pulled out eventually. Same scenario as wii u really and probably the same for switch.cant see EA hanging round for long
@G0dlike yes you do still need your PS4. For Honor, Nioh (possible goty)Yakuza 0, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy you have a lot of games to buy mister!
I'm ready to get this game. I've been hoping Nintendo would make a sports game again at some point. I mostly want this because of baseball and football.
@Equinox Have Xbox One, PS4 and PC for those. No need to buy a new Nintendo device to play these games.
@holygeez03 Mario Power Tennis had a lot of amazing things for me: Power Shots that relied on strategic uses for them, Gimmick Courts, Item Battles, Uniquely-designed mini games, Intro and Outro Cutscenes, and charm. Those things are what made Mario Power Tennis one of the best Nintendo games I ever played and also one of the best Mario Sports games I ever played.
Open and Ultra Smash, on the other hand, had neither of that. The Chance Shots do not revolve around strategic uses and are basically randomly-appearing spots that players have to run up to and press a button to use. On top of having some of the most lackluster set of modes and such, the lack of personality in the Trophy Victory screens makes Tournament Victories unsatisfying. Heck, even both of the games' Gimmick Courts (Morph Courts) were very mediocre at best as opposed to Power Tennis's amazing set of fun Gimmick Courts. Why Camelot would remove all of these features that made Mario Tennis shine is beyond me. Okay sure, Ultra Smash is the bigger stink of the two, being one of the worst Nintendo games I played in recent memory, but I still wouldn't call Open the better game by a whole lot. It isn't a bad game on its own, but it massively disappointed me coming off of the amazing Mario Power Tennis.
I had some interest in this game, especially given the lack of strikers on the WiiU but with the NS around the corner...pass.
@polivar4 I have my 1st child in the way on May 4th......
BoTw will do me fine for now 😜
Would have much preferred a fully fledged version of any of these modes instead of this barebones collection.
@G0dlike Congrats mate! Guess you won't be gaming for a while then.
Alas, no! But the ease of the Switch may allow me to sneak in a bit more
I wish they would make this cross platform with Switch, but I'm getting it anyways.
This looks like nothing more than a basic compilation to me. 11-A-Side football is tempting, but the gameplay hasn't really advanced since Strikers days - needs more refinement by now.
And it looks like if you want to score, just head it - every header I've seen in the footage of this game ends up in the back of the net.
barebones or not i think this will be mega fun and as a sport junkie this is a must have
