More than 100 million pieces of 3DS software have been sold in Japan since the launch of the console in 2011.

The 3DS just only the third system to reach this remarkable milestone, with the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation 2 being the other two.

The recent arrival of Pokémon Sun & Moon - which sold 2 million physical copies in three days in Japan - will no doubt have helped. During the lifetime of the console there have been numerous other million-sellers on Japanese soil, including Super Mario 3D Land (1.88 million), Monster Hunter 4 (4 million) and Yo-Kai Watch 2, which has sold almost 6 million copies across its three versions.
