Late last year we reported on the fact that Night Dive Studios had successfully acquired the rights to remake Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, an early N64 title that was instrumental in selling the console to the masses.
Now, the studio is working on a remake of the sequel. 1998's Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was a significant step forward for the series as it offered a multiplayer mode, and this element is getting a lot of attention in Night Dive's remaster.
Here's the announcement on the Turok Steam page:
So as many of you may have guessed, working on the rights to these classic titles can be tricky and sometimes contractual obligations prevents the transparency we've enjoyed on some of our other titles which is why updates have been mysteriously absent.
We're well aware of the demand for Turok 2 and it is still in development... in fact we started development just shortly after the launch of the first Turok. Turok 2 is a bigger game, more enemies, more weapons, more locations and most importantly... Turok 2 had Multiplayer.
In our quest to bring you the most authentic experience at the highest quality level available we've decided to give Turok 2 the love it deserves and release the game 'when it's done' which is why all we've been able to say is this:
Turok 2 is coming!
Sadly, this sequel is likely to remain PC-only, which is a shame. For those who cut their teeth on the N64 original, it would have been nice to play a HD version on Nintendo hardware.
Let us know if you'll be checking this out on Steam by posting a comment below. If you're a fan of the series then don't forget to also check out our "making of" feature for the first game.

I hope they properly remake the fog to make it look crisp in HD.
Definitly one of my top 5 64 games. Bigger and better then the first game. Now Turok 3 doesn't need any special treatment. Didn't like the direction the series went from there.
This belongs on a Nintendo platform. Great game. I will not be buying it on Steam. Put it on NX or I'm sorry I'll have to skip it.
I. Am. TUROK!
This needs to come to NX.
Cerebral bore.
Played Turok Evolution for gamecube and it was my first intro into FPSs while all my friends were playing halo. I brought my gamecube over and we ended up playing it for hours. They loved it and they forgot about halo for the rest of the night.
"Sadly, this sequel is likely to remain PC-only, which is a shame. For those who cut their teeth on the N64 original, it would have been nice to play a HD version on Nintendo hardware."
This line has become the norm any more for Nintendo, the once great but now irrelevant company. Maybe one day they'll be great again and games will actually come out on their systems.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE How about just putting it out on PS and/or XB? That way 98% of the gaming population can enjoy it.
The first turok remaster was sooooo good. These guys definitely know what they're doing. And they're remaking system shock too oh my god yes
Turok 2 remains to this day a defining gaming experience for me. All the hipster haters can suck Cerebral Bore slurry.
Not really a fan of turok. I didnt think the games were that great as to deserve a remake.
YES PLEASE
This is a must buy. I have no problems if it remains PC-only. FPS-games are horrible on traditional controllers anyway plus the console-version would probably not be as good-looking and run steady 60fps or more. #PCMasterRace
Didn't play Turok, but I might give the remake a try, especially if I can map the controls to an N64 controller!
Countless hours spent playing this with friends. I will only support it when it comes to Nintendo _____.
This would have been great with Wiimote controls.
Excellent news! Gonna have to get myself a gaming PC soon
@Pikmin22 The first one was more about actual dinosaurs. The second one was more about aliens and mutant-lizards. Still, both were great games though, and this is coming from someone who doesn't really care much about FPS games.
@TossedLlama Dude, that code ruined me back in the N64 days, and I had trouble getting past a boss. It was so tempting to use it, and I could never forget it
Oh man I will def get this, used to play this with my buddy back in the day, scared the heck out of us. Sadly we could never progress far due to not being able to save.Maybe now's my chance!
On N64 this game was a masterpiece of first person action and shooting. The best dinosaur hunting game that we never got from a Jurassic Park title. On PC this will just be another one of those title that come and goes. Will be great for a while but after that it'll be back to playing Minecraft or Fallout again.
Bought the cartridge of this again yesterday....great game😁
..that's Dino-mite!...1 of my favorite 64 games, looking forward to the multiplayer too..

"Let's get ready to rumble!"
..oh, wait..gonna miss that tho..
@gatorboi352 well Turok 1&2 came out on pc around the same time the N64 games were released so it's not that strange.
I have some nostalgic attachment towards Turok 1 (so much so that I even got the steam remake), but I've never bothered with the sequel since FPSs and action games in general just aren't my thing.
I think I read somewhere the the original will be coming to PS4 and XBONE next year, so maybe it will also come to NX. If it sells well on these systems (which I will be purchasing and hope it does sell well), then we'll probably see the sequel come to the consoles and also the third and Rage Wars. I'm also hoping that they make an HD re-release of Turok Evolution, which for some reason, I also fairly enjoyed.
I'd love to see this on the NX!
I'm finally making the leap of faith and buying the first to get ready for the second
See what I did there?
Seriously though. This makes me so happy
@erv That sounds extremely uncomfortable.
@TossedLlama you know what's up!
@james_squared it's a weapon.
I'm an old dude. I played the original.
@TossedLlama
See THAT'S the one that I have memorized from the first one!
On the ninth day god created Turok, yeah? Lol
@TossedLlama I still know NTHGTHDGDCRTDTRK from Turok 1 off by heart after all these years 😊
Turok 2 gets a lot of hate these days. It was an old school, hardcore no holds barred FPS with a dodgy framerate, gigantic levels with few save points but it looked absolutely stunning, featuring incredible real-time dynamic lighting that the Wii U hasn't even managed to deal with, throw in the most insane weapons ever in an FPS and animations to kill for.
I completed the game back in 1999 and to be honest no game I've played comes close in sheer challenge.
Definitely gotta be on a Nintendo system.
Bet you anything this game will stay PC only, or be released on every console BUT Nintendo's
Turok blew me away back in day. T2 even more so and the first or second game I used together with the RAM expansion pack, which delivered on a noticeable visual upgrade.
N64 was just such a unique console. Personal favourite Nintendo platform to date.
@erv That's one kick ass weapon! Is that just for close combat or is it a ranged weapon? I should get back to work. Excuse me.
A 3DS version of Turok would be awesome, but PC is cool to as long as there is controller support.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only Turok game I have played is Turok Evolution and while I enjoyed it I am not too interested in the series as a whole. It almost certainly will never come to a Nintendo system but if it does I may reconsider, assuming the game still holds up.
@liveswired
Turok 2 was easily the best in the series and one of the best N64 games. It was hard but not cheap. Lots of hours sunk into it.
I don't use Steam. I only support DRM free on the PC and OS X.
Amazing game this is the moment I've been waiting for but it should be on Nintendo! Even a port for 3ds would be nice
@gatorboi352 Not quite 98% of gamers. If you check back to early into 2016, Eurogamer and Edge magazine both did write-ups about how PC gaming has risen over 230% in the last 2 years.
It is estimated, around the World, to be over 400,000,000 PC GAMERS. Not just people who from time to time play the odd game of Tetris or something, but True Gamers, who put a lot of hours in each and every week.
@gatorboi352 Nintendo Wii U & 3DS - combined 72 million sold.
PS4 and PS Vita - combined 47 to 57 million (Vita no longer reported).
Xbox One - roughly 20 million (no longer reported).
Look, I know you have some sort of unhealthy obsession with the downfall of a multi-billion dollar toy company run by Japanese dudes - but you can at least try and do SOME research before you attempt your limp-wristed trolling?
@akaDv8R LOL "True Gamers". What exactly are 'true gamers'? Are they super Frankenstein monsters constructed from the body parts of 'fake gamers'? Get outta here with that nonsense.
@Kage_88 I actually have a Wii U, from day one in the UK, November 30th 2012, and have over 250 games on it. So no, I do NOT want to see the demise of probably the most innovative and best games developers in the World.
You said 98% of gamers, are people that play games on PC's, such as my once,? Which I am very glad to say, blows the Xbox ONE and PS4 out of the water when it comes to amount of games, and how much better they play AND look.
So, in future, before making an invalid comment be CLEAR on what you actually mean, if you can.
@james_squared The cerebral bore shoots a projectile to the enemy skull, attaches and starts drilling the brains out. After a few seconds, boom!
It's one of those awesome weapons you found in turok 2. Brilliant game.
The funny thing is, the horror effect of it all was amplified by the fog and the rather powerful enemies.
edit: bottom line, the cerebral bore is glorious.
Speaking of remastered, any word on dementium 2 for the 3ds
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The original game was on PC as well.
@TenEighty in that case I hope you don't play too many console games since most of them are useless once the servers go down.
Also, Turok is on GOG. I'd bet it's in the humble store too.
@Matti Turok has a sort of auto aim, so using a joystick doesn't really put you at a disadvantage. I've enjoyed the remaster using both a M&KB and a pro controller and enjoyed both.
the steam remak was great
looking forward to this
Turok 2? More like 2rok, right? Right?
I'll be in the corner.
(Seriously though, has the game been in development hell since then? Wow!)
@Pikmin22
I don't remember Jack Skellington pulling that face in TNBC, which scene was it?
@Kage_88 LOL nice spin on those combined numbers for 3DS and Wii U. How many of those are for Wii U btw? Yeah.
Look, it's no mystery the state of affairs Nintendo finds themselves in recently. 3rd parties simply aren't considering their systems when they go to release their games. That is a fact.
@Pikmin22
I see. Spooky!
@aj_fowl I play PC games too. They have to support XP though and Turok does not. I prefer older games, so that's why I use XP.
