GungHo Online has released a scaled-down, free-to-play version of Puzzle & Dragons X on the Japanese 3DS eShop.
Battle Puzzle & Dragons X includes a "Battle Mode" identical to that seen in the main game, which features "Fixed" and "Free" contests. In these you can customise your team of monsters and also battle against players who own Puzzle & Dragons X: Kami no Shou and Puzzle & Dragons X: Ryuu no Shou, the two versions of Puzzle & Dragons X.
There's also "Challenge Survival" mode based around three difficulty options. Success in this mode will earn you new beasts and evolution materials, the latter of which can be used to power-up your team.
Battle Puzzle & Dragons X is being positioned as a demo of sorts, as data from this version can be transferred to the full game, should you choose to upgrade.
Would you like to see Puzzle & Dragons X adopt a similar approach for a western release, assuming that it happens? Share your thoughts with a comment.

Sounds good... I've been needing a new puzzle game like this since Pokemon Shuffle became a little too pay-to-win for my liking.
Yes please.
I already have the retail version on my 3DS, but hopefully this will get more people to play this wonderful puzzle game.
... Now if only they would release the mobile version on European Play Store...
I'm enjoying Z/Mario Edition, especially the Mario side (as much as I hate the NSMB games, lol). And from what I've seen, it seems this game is taking some things I like from the Mario side of the game. (main one being dual-typing monsters)
Anyways yeah, I want X.
So bring it to the EU pretty please! Nintendo got it so so wrong with the region lock this iteration!!
