Monster Hunter Generations arrived recently in the West, so we trust that plenty of you are currently going on some exciting hunts both offline and online. Something you may have overlooked is that, as per tradition, there's a launch set of DLC to get you started, and Capcom Unity has broken down the full details.
Arguably the most important inclusion for anyone starting out in the game is a Starter Item Pack, which has a lot of hugely useful stuff to use:
- 99x Honey
- 50x Mega Potion
- 20x Mega Dash Juice
- 50x Well-done Steak
- 20x Lifepowder
- 30x Hot Drink
- 30x Cool Drink
- 10x Shock Trap
- 10x Pitfall Trap
- 30x Tranq Bomb
Moving on, this 'sampler' set of DLC also includes some outfits, equipment and Palicoes, some of which are simply handed to you and others that you earn through quest.
First of all, Palicoes - you get these added to your roster.
- Happy
- Nyanbo
- Univer
- Mario
Then there are smaller extras to make your save and profile a bit snazzier.
- 20x Guild Card Titles
- 1x Guild Card Pose
- 5x Guild Card Background
- 1x Pet Outfit
Four arena events don't yield DLC-exclusive rewards, but may be worth a whirl.
- Event: Slay a Gore Magala
- Event: Slay a Zinogre
- (Prowler) Event: Slay a Royal Ludroth
- (Prowler) Event: Slay a Volvidon
Now for the good stuff. Though collaboration outfits for the likes of Star Fox and Strider will come in the following months, there are still outfits to be earned in this first month via special quests.

Wait so these are all put now? I thought they were just some of the stuff coming months from now. I need to check the DLC section in my game.
The USJ male and prowler armours are so nice.
I haven't played since my foot swelled out like a grapefruit and can barely walk. And now I'm starting school tomorrow during half my work day (on the clock so I get paid while I'm there btw which is awesome).
But, I'm going to start playing for real, this weekend. It's time to hunt.
Might nab that last one, the cardboard suit, just for the laughs.
20 hours + & still working my way through the 3* village quests but finally finished crafting the LS & Bnahabra outfit for my MC last night so I'm pretty happy with MHG so far.
I'm loving MHG. With all this content, my biggest struggle is to decide what to do when I boot the game up. The struggle is indeed real.
I wish the 3DS displays were at least 480p: there's so much detail in Monster Hunter games, it stinks that much of the elaborate art design and models are relegated to "fuzzies" when viewed up-close. It's not too big a deal since your mind gets so focused on the gameplay that nitpicking at such isn't too much of a factor (or none at all). But it would be nice to revel in the detailed artistry of the developers. For a handheld/mobile device, nothing higher than 720p would be perfect, I think. No need for anything higher than that as it would tax the battery too much (which somewhat defeats the purpose of a handheld). Just my two cents, Nintendo... (Or in other words, get on that, please.)
Hhahaha Happy is just awesome.
@c1pher_c0mplet to be fair, the game looks much better with the boosted resolution of 3D mode. Its brighter and you can make out much more detail.
Yay USJ armour! Loved those sets in MH4U, and they still look amazing in Generations. Plus even the cat has one now!
I wonder if it will be another great whole set like it was in 4U. It was THE Insect Glaive set suitable for most monsters.
I still need to get Generations, stop making this worse for me >.<
And now my interest in MH has reignited, and I am reminded why I stopped hunting with randoms in 4U...... Plus they are kinda emptier now.
I have the game unwrapped in it's case at home but I'm trying to finish Ocarina of Time again before starting MH. I'm on the last dungeon so I'm hoping to jump into MH this weekend.
The USJ set looks cool... good for armor... but crap skills this time around xD
Can't wait for the Star Fox and Okami costumes!!
I wish they could bring back the Link gear DLC from MH4U like they did with the Mario outfits...
Omg I'm so glad we get those amazing looking Star armor.
I'm glad the challenges seem doable now.
I'm a veteran hunter, definetly not the best out there, heck not even top200, but, come on!
The previous games were like "1 Gold Rathian, 1 Silver Rathalos and 1 Deviljho, Arena, the three out at the same time, GO!"
Never got around getting most of the fun DLC costumes.
The second I saw Happy, I knew this is definitely going to be my first MH game. xD
@c1pher_c0mplet Don't be the guy that complains about graphics.
@Peterjr1 MH4U's visuals were amazing and the 3D really made everything pop out. In fact, it's rare if I have the 3D slider down because I usually game with it all the way up. Still, that's good to know as I've yet to purchase MHGenerations.
Does anyone else note the 3D effect has changed in this outing? There is not as much depth between objects both in the towns and areas. It feels like this was a corner to cut in order to include all of the content. I noticed a similar effect in Majora's Mask 3D where there were flickers of objects flattening as in they weren't completely in 3D all of the time.
@ollietaro The objects (things, characters, monsters) look terribly aliased as soon as I activate the 3D too (it is not the case in 4U)
@Rei Hmm, 'aliased' as in jaggy? I don't mind that, it's just the lack of depth that bothers me. I am still playing it of course however the areas have less depth in the stereoscopic 3D than in previous installments so it feels like a step backward. I guess this was necessary to accommodate a larger amount of areas.
