Atlus is a popular studio for localising niche Japanese games in the west, though it's been somewhat spotty with bringing these games to all territories at once. It seems that North America is the one that usually gets favoured, with games making it over to Europe months later, if at all. The reason for this isn't always made clear, and unfortunately it seems that the pattern will continue with the next release.
As mentioned before, SEGA is now the publisher of everything Atlus related, but it seems that Europe will still have to wait for the upcoming release of 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. SEGA recently posted a video that primarily covered its upcoming Motorsport Manager, but near the beginning of the video is an "#AskSEGA" section where some questions asked by fans on Twitter are answered. One of the questions was whether or not 7th Dragon would get a European release, and the response was that there are no currently plans, but it's being looked into. Here's the video, the response comes about a minute in:

I'm hoping this is an isolated case because this is pretty much what I feared. SEGA is going to do absolutely nothing more than Atlus localising games for the European market.
Though I wasn't planning on picking up this game, the announcement makes me concerned for other Atlus games such as Etrian Odyssey.
@crimsontadpoles Those usually make it over, don't they? Maybe a few months late.
I feared this would happen this is the reason over five years in I'm still angry about the region lock on the 3ds. I still buy games for the ds the latest being nine hours nine persons nine doors the first game in the zero escape series witch never made it to Europe sega not bringing 7th dragon here would not be a big deal if we were able to import it
I have no hope for a game card release of SMTIVfinal in Europe now. More largely: adieu potential RPGs releases during the last year of the console.
@Sanqet Meanwhile, Nintendo is trying its best to block further progression in the homebrew and pirating department, thus blocking the region free someone build.
Aand once more I'm glad that I hacked my 3DS and disabled tregion block... It sucks having to wait a year before we get a game that was already released everywhere else (looking at you, FE:Fates and SMTIV)...
Why is this article making it sound like 7th Dragon is an Atlus series? 7th Dragon has always been a Sega franchise since the first entry on the DS.
Am I reading this wrong?
@OdnetninAges I think they mean that just like Atlus is known to be bad at bringing games to Europe Sega will start being bad at it too.
I can't believe that the one great new game by Sega themselves they are going to release properly in the US wasn't even being planned for release in here. Honestly made me legit mad. At least they didn't completely rule it out, but I fear for the worst. Sega is one company that shouldn't get away with a belated, digital-only release with all of their prior 3DS games being released in here properly in retail form.
Sega betrays the UK once again. Thanks for sonic boom its so good i feel like gouging my own eyes out.
Noooooooooo!
There will be enough releases till the end of the year to keep me busy so I don't care if we get it late. Sega is probably waiting to see US sales before deciding to bring it to europe, there's still hope. Otherwise I'll probably disable region block at some point, depeding on what Atlus does with Etrian Odyssey V.
Yo Sega. Digital distribution. No additional expenses.
I ideally want a physical release for everything (by which in this case I mean EO5 and SMT4:A ), but this "no plans" bul-...business makes no sense.
Ha! This is payback for getting Bravely Second, Devil's Third, Yoshi's Woolly World, Sonic Lost World, and The Wonderful 101 first.
@abbyhitter You're always spouting the same senseless crap whenever something likes this happens, how do you manage to be so repetitive and so wrong at once? Tell me your secrets.
Anyway, this just makes me glad I have a region-free 3DS.
If people want this game, be vocal. Contact SEGA. Be nice but be vocal about it. If there is enough of an outpouring they will know there's an audience for the game. It looks amazing. I'm hoping for a full physical release. Not gonna happen but hey. Not unless we shout out for it, right?
@LinkSword I'm not wrong. Europe got those games before North America. If I told you my secrets, you wouldn't have anything to complain about.
@Dakt Well, that was payback for getting Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, and The Last Story way in advance too.
It's times like these that region lock really bites people in the ass don't it?
@abbyhitter get a life
@Morph lol
Still gonna import from the US once it releases but I do hope this isn't a sign of things to come regarding future Atlus/Sega games over here In Europe. Disappointing news anyway
People in Europe have money and like games too? No way!
I fear this might be the end of the Atlus games in EU And this was one of the games i really wanted aswell.. really hope they manage to get it to EU.
