Earlier this week it emerged that XSEED was planning to bring mature horror title Corpse Party to North America, thanks to an ESRB rating. As previously mentioned this is actually a remastered port of a sequel on PSP, Corpse Party: Blood Covered ...Repeated Fear, but is being rebranded to make a splash in the West.
XSEED has now confirmed a Summer release for this linear horror experience on 3DS in North America, with the following description of what the game will have to offer.
Remastered from the 2011 PSP game, the Nintendo 3DS rendition of Corpse Party will feature redrawn, high-resolution character sprites, newly arranged music tracks, and 3D art stills, as well as four new Extra Chapters exclusive to this version that provide insight into lesser-shown characters and plot elements previously left unexplained.
It's confirmed that a 'Back to School' limited edition will arrive with a price-tag of $49.99 - it'll include "miniature figurines of characters Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara, as well as a soundtrack CD containing nearly 80 minutes of music from the game not previously featured on the 'Songs of the Dead' compilation, including three tracks exclusive to this Nintendo 3DS version". A concept image for it is below.
Those happy to have the download version will only have to pay $29.99, it should be said.
It'll be interesting to see how this mature title performs on 3DS; you can see a teaser trailer and screenshots below; let us know what you think.

whooooohooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!happy days
YES!! Look at that adorable Seiko figurine! I must have it!
I must get it!
@Tsurii I think the only game in the series to go the 3D route is Blood Drive. Which wasn't a great move, imo, as that game was plagued with framerate issues.
Corpse Party is among my favorite horror games as well. It doesn't need high production values or obtrusive gameplay gimmicks to be memorable and scary.
@Tsurii Yeah, and by far the worst entry in the series.
Every publisher hates Europe.
Another one for Europe, please!
Ill be happy with the dl version thank you.
I'm open-minded about this game. It could be something that I'll love, or I might find it's not that great.
This is something I'd try if it ever reaches Europe. Since I'm a sucker for soundtrack CDs, it would be nice to see that special edition here.
Played the demo when it first came on the Japanese E-shop. It had a few good scares and the voice acting was top notch.
I'll take 7
The game came out about 5 years ago on PSP , Why not at least update the game slightly instead of standard port , Not really interested as a game like this could easily play on mobiles never mind the 3DS , I'm not expecting Revelations type quality but at least make something worthy of the platform , blood drive could easily play on 3DS albeit with slightly downgraded graphics .
Wow, that was really fast. Didn't it just go from a rumor, to a real possibility then to the real thing with a special version in just a week? LOL
Looks like they're going for Senran Kegura: Zombie Edition with that cover.
Figurines are cute. Will be hard to do those in an all digital world.
@ThrowMeBarrel They did update the game. It has remixed music, extra chapters, redone sprites, etc.
The game really caught my interest. I might have to pre order this.
Glad its coming out on PC first. We can get some reviews, and then I'll know if I should preorder or not.
Cool, I'm not sure if I will just download or not, but still interested in this game. The limited edition is definitely something to look at.
@rjejr that does seem to be an appeal tactic, I hadn't noticed that. I believe the demo I played was all or nearly all of the first chapter, and the characters weren't sexualised at all.
@ralizah I think he means the art style, but most of the games in the series use sprites. The game is quality though, rest assured.
Damn region locking nonsense. Bring this to Europe please!
Looks dope, I think I'll pick up a regular copy when it drops. After reading comments on other articles people are saying how good it is, it sounds like a no brainier to me
I must have this!!
Cool edition. If by some miracle it happened to arrive to Europe as well, I'd get it.
I have beaten all Corpse Party games on PSP/Vita so I will see the differences between this and the older PSP game before I decide if I buy it. Firstly the game must be released in Europe though...
Guys, i know its frustrating that the NA release was announced but the EU/AU versions havent, but some of you are being a bit dramatic. Xseed has a very good reputation for making sure its international releases hit as many markets as possible.
Is this the only Corpse Party game for North American release? Is the game like 999, or more like an RPG? I'm really interested!
Really hope they'll come to Europe...
@Tsuchinoko I don't know anything about the game, but on my 7" tablet where I originally saw this I spent more than a few seconds staring at that big white globe in the center of the cover trying to figure out what it was. I mean I knew what I thought it was, but then I was like, nah, it must be her elbow, or her knee, not what I think it is, too obvious.
I completed Chapter 1 of the PSP game on a friend's Vita years ago, then watched a play-through of the rest of the game on YouTube after I returned the handheld. I'm usually a total wuss when it comes to anything Horror, yet I was actually really intrigued by this one.
The climax of Ch. 1, though... still creeps me out. I had to replay that one part several times before I did it right. It was a nightmare...
My pooper's not nearly buttered enough for this! A Seiko figurine, AND new music?! C'mon, land on Amazon already!
So, this is just a remake of the one and only PSP Corpse Party game, right?
@Hey-Cha-La its an interesting mix. It looks like an old Square Rpg but plays like survival horror. Very much a part of the whole RPG Maker indie horror games like Yume Nikki or Ao Oni.
Certain purchase if it's released in Europe
@ThrowMeBarrel So you don't want the best possible version of the game?
I will pick up the special edition if its released elsewhere.
@LemonSlice yeah but its standard things and hardly a change like say when FFIV got 3D on the DS. A game like this would now sell on steam or mobile for about 3quid max and even fully translated they still can't announce a EU release at least digital sorry but in 2016 they can do better this should have been out years ago and it should be onto blood drive by now.
@LemonSlice @ThrowMeBarrel I think I understand ThrowMeBarrel feels, it may not be worth it if you played it before in the past, even though it's the best edition with extra content. I think they're targeting folks like myself who have never played this before. I don't play games (other than Threes) on my mobile and I don't have Steam. My gaming is primarily done on my N3DS and secondarily on the consoles I own. I'm preordering as soon as I can.
I remember thinking this looked interesting on PSP. I may have to get this.
Look, more amiib-...oh wait, no.
Played both the Original on PSP along with Book of Shadows, and Blood Drive on Vita... so this is right up my ally. I want to double dip to own a physical copy of the game and think the extra chapters will be quite... fright-tastic. Seriously if you want a really disturbing and enjoyably bloody game this is it. The sprite work and still frames convey a lot and the localization team had a ton of fun with using just the right words to make your stomach turn.
Some negatives I have for the series is the plot can be quite goofy (especially in Blood Drive) at times and the characters are a bit one dimensional as a whole (not all of them mind you). But it does have the greatest horror protagonist ever in Yoshiki Kishinuma (who I'm sure most of you will affectionately call the Blonde Guy) who I swear is the most sensible character ever!
Overall the series is an 7/10, but the original that this port is based on is a solid 8/10.
Definitely getting this.
And do I see a new scene for Yoshiki and Yoshikazu, and another scene for Naho before certain things happen? Can't wait.
The figure extras are a nice touch (and the soundtrack). If this version supports 3D, however, it could definitely step up the creepy factor of the original. Imagine the scenes from Corpse Party, but having them up close in your face ... shivers
