Fire Emblem Fates is now available in North America, bringing the latest and greatest from Intelligent Systems to eager strategy fans. Though the single player content is certainly enough to keep players busy for a long time, this new entry also features expanded multiplayer matches.
The latest Nintendo Minute shows off the local multiplayer, and though it's obvious how the mode works the video is still an entertaining watch. The best part of local multiplayer is the nonsense opponents can talk at each other as they play; we're sold on the idea, in any case.

Are online matches limited to a friend list, or is there an option for battling random people too?
This was a much desired feature in Awakening- so glad they finally added real multiplayer in Fates.
I can't wait to try this out.
So they finally added back in a feature that was included in Shadow Dragon for DS, 7 years ago. About damn time. If it had a custom map builder/sharing like the Advance Wars series, especially Days of Ruin, that would have made it up to par with previous efforts by Intelligent Systems for online features. So DoR, an 8 year old game, still had better/more online features than FE Fates...
Well, if this console generation has taught me anything, it was to realize how much I didn't appreciate the efforts of past generations anywhere near as much as I should have. Things like this used to be a given, and now we have to practically beg (or pay) for them to be implemented...
Wow! I had no idea this had multiplayer. I still don't know if I'll get it because I really don't like such plot-heavy games, but this definitely makes me want it a lot more!
@World
Yeah, I just hate all the emphasis put on the "Dating Simulator" aspect of the game. Might pick it up sometime down the road, not an essential for me though.
"Send your rival's spouse to their doom..."
It get's old, I know.. But I can't stress enough how sad I feel by the lack of a European release date.
@Zoriam I feel like someone is supposed to respond "at least you have Bravely Second", so let's assume it has been said. But truly, I feel your pain.
@JasmineDragon I hate that kind of response with a passion. For one, Bravely Second at least does have a release date for US, and it's had it for months now. For another, and more importantly, people upset over the lack of Fire Emblem in this region may not even care about Bravely at all - like myself - so the point of comparing one and the other feels extremely irrelevant.
Not to mention that when there's a gap in release dates, it's Americans who get games earlier than us ninety-five percent of the time and not the other way around. And when they do not, the gap is not even that big. Like, you know, waiting for Shin Megami Tensei IV for over a year and half past the other region's release... and digital-only.
So the tldr version for people who constantly blurt out that crap is let us be salty in peace.
Waiting like crazy for this game in Europe I made a video about it literally scraping the bottom of the barrel coming up with nothing I did however look at the different versions which was interesting still I had a nice rant in the video check it out if you're interested!
The thumbnail is pure cringe.
@Zoriam That's why we have Bravely Second.
@LinkSword At least get the Bravely Second Demo. It's actually pretty good.
@Chevron Did you not read the comments IMMEDIATELY following that one?
@PlywoodStick
Not only console. All video games/computer games.
Keep buying preorders,dlcs, early acces, "new" call of duty, "new" fifa, "new" Needforspeed still and then have complains to devs/publishers not to yourselves.
I thought i am stupid. You buy = you support, they have your money, so they don't have to patch game. They won't do it.
Maybe we should let die games industry? In current state i will say/i am saying: let it die. And like in nature(?), nature don't accept void so don't worry. We will have plenty of games.
@DontPlayDumb It's a matter of integrity. There are still people out there in the industry with integrity, but we shouldn't expect it from the ultimate decisions of big companies.
Support those who are pro-consumer, and don't support those who are anti-consumer. Too many people are supporting anti-consumer policies and products. We need to have more self restraint in what we purchase. As you said, nothing is ever truly lost, only changed, transferred, converted, or missed. We lose nothing by being more mindful of our purchasing decisions.
@LinkSword I was joking, dude. Once again, I feel your pain. It sucks for you guys in Europe. The worst thing is, I still don't understand WHY Europe doesn't have a release date yet. I know translation is an issue, but it shouldn't be that much of a problem.
@JasmineDragon I didn't mean it for you, it's just that there is always someone who'll say that seriously. So your spot-on joke seemed a good time to comment on my disdain for that kind of ''logic''.
But yeah, the release date thing doesn't make any sense. Then again, it's Nintendo of Europe. I'm depressingly used to it.
