Fans of puzzle platforming, either in solo play or multiplayer, have a promising title to consider for next week's eShop update. Sarepta Studio's Shadow Puppeteer - published by Snow Cannon Games - finally has a solid release date for Wii U, arriving in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand on 28th January.
We enjoyed some hands on time with the game at EGX last year; previously released on PC, it's a clever puzzle platformer in which a boy and his shadow move and operate largely independently of each other. Whether in solo play or local co-op the two work together to solve clever physics -and light-based puzzles.
We were rather impressed with this in our time with it last year and are diving into a review, and have an interview with the developers coming up soon. In the meantime you can learn a little more about it from our EGX video interview, below.

Looks great, gonna get it. Gotta love the couch coop.
Looks pretty cool. Between this and FreezeME, the year has started well for the e-Shop.
This reminds me of A Shadows Tale
Looks cool, won't pay full price for it though
@Farpun totally does. A Shadows Tail is one if the very best games made for the Wii. Wish it gets an eshop release. Didn't sell well at the time right?
Such a great game.
Definitely up for this game.
Love it, good style, gothic look, cool idea; reminds me of Contrast.
Lost on shadow was a great wii game. This looks fun too
Hey everyone. Shadow Puppeteer's dev here.
Thank you for all the positive feedback! It is greatly appreciated. And thank you to Nintendo Life, and Thomas, for some great articles and interesting interviews. Looking forward to your review.
If anyone has any questions about the game, I'll be in here to answer.
Hi devs
The game looks great! I'd like to ask if anything is lost playing single player or if it's a full mode. I know it's designed primarily for local co-op, but I prefer to play single player as I'm often on call and awake when others sleep or asleep when everyone else is awake. With other obligations I really can't guarantee I'll be around for a planned gaming night so mostly it's single play all the way.
sigh why is it always the mediocre devs who pay us a visit...
Boring color palette, boring sound design, boring music, awful lighting and what looks like awkward controls and gameplay.
@Sakura That is a great question. Both modes have the exact same content. I would say that the major difference is the way the game feels different when it comes to challenge and atmosphere.
When you play it together with someone, there is a great dynamic and emergence in the world and story that I believe is not felt in the same way in the single player mode. The challenge becomes to get synched with the other person you are playing with.
At the same time, playing it alone gives the game a new level of challenge. It really twists your brain (in a tingly fun way) to controll two characters at the same time, that are in two different dimentions.
You will probably have a great time in both modes
@CathInShadow Thanks! It sounds very promising. I don't mind brain-twisting.
something got my attention in the video
@Sakura Good to hear :3
