The Theatrhythm series of games for Square Enix is an interesting spin-off that holds a lot of potential. Over its long run, Square has produced countless memorable soundtracks to accompany its games, and somebody finally got the bright idea to make a rhythm game focused entirely on this music. While the two that have released in the west are based on the Final Fantasy series, there was also a Japan-only release that featured music from the Dragon Quest games.
Ichiro Hazama - the producer of the Theatrhythm games - was featured in this month's issue of Nintendo Dream and he had a few comments on the Theatrhythm games. While he didn't confirm that another one is on its way, he seems very open to the idea and says that he has plans.
This is Hazama from Square Enix. Last year at this place, I said 'we'll keep continuing Theatrhythm from hereafter too!'. Well then, I wonder how about next year['s continuity]. Personally, I still want to continue, and everyday I have been devising various plans. I'm full with a feeling to do something to make it happen, so I'll be glad if you can wait with anticipation. With that being said, please keep supporting [the series] as usual from hereafter too!
What of you think? Would you like to see another Theatrhythm? Which series do you think another entry could focus on? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Maybe a Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts game would be nice. There are plenty of Yoko Shimomura songs that have yet to come out of the 3DS's speakers. I think of Hazardous Highway, What Lies Beneath, Fields Of Honor, Dark Impetus, Black Poison, among many, many others.
With less DLC, or at least affordable pack deals, sure, why not ?
I love these games and Curtain Calls showed, that you can make a meaty rythm game with a lot of actual "game" content besides just music.
Do a Theatrhythm game for Nintendo. Same gameplay but with music and characters from Nintendo games. The on screen action would have a 2D Mario automatically jumping on platforms and enemies in time to the music.
Make a Pokemon one. The fantastic music and turn based combat would make it a great fit.
I'd be down for a Nintendo Theatrhythm or a full blown Square Enix one. Like, go all out on every SE series besides FF and DQ which already have their own games: Chrono, Kingdom Hearts, Mana, Front Mission, SaGa, NieR/Drakengard, Star Ocean, World Ends With You, Vagrant, Bravely Default, then throw in some Super Mario RPG for being on a Nintendo platform!
Talk with Nintendo and do a Zelda one. I also don't want to here from anyone that there isn't enough tunes to do it. The series has more then enough to support a full game. Dlc could be from other franchises.
Would love to see a Zelda or Pokemon one!
Even Fire Emblem or Mario would be great!
Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts, but I'd imagine it'd have to come out after KHIII (or, since that requires outlasting the heat death of the universe, maybe after 2.8, as further promotion for the un-evitable).
I mean, I'd jam "L'Oscurita d'ell Ignoto" or whatever from 3D all damn night. And from the same game, its remix of "Calling" is was got me to buy the (less pumpin') original for TFFCC.
Please, do.
I could see them obtaining a license to another company's IP, but for now I expect more Square Enix properties getting the Theatrhythm treatment.
Haven't played any except demos, but if it was music from a series I liked I might. Chrono Trigger would be my number one pick. That would be mighty tempting.
I borrowed the first one from my cousin and played the demo and I loved it but never bought it or Curtain Call. I might get it if their is a new one though.
I love the Theatrhythm games so much. I bought the first one at launch (on a whim actually, but fell in love with it), got the second at launch as well. I even imported the Dragon Quest one a few months ago, despite having little experience with Dragon quest. Actually, it inspired me to start collecting the games. I got the first two for NES, IV, V and VI for DS... Anyway, that aside, I think the series has huge potential.
@Nintendo_Ninja suggested a Pokemon one. I'd play that, I think it would work well because it's a turn based game like the others. Personally, I would LOVE to see either a Theatrhythm: Castlevania, or a Theatrhythm: Mega Man. Aside from that, a Theatryhthm: Nintendo would be amazing. Just, all the games. On that note, a Theatrhythm: EarthBound/Mother would work well, sell well (for sure in Japan), and be awesome.
@MetaSmasher Curtain Call does have Chrono Trigger music, but it's a $1 a piece. Not a great deal, but it could be worse. You at least get 3 difficulties to play it on as well as unlocking the song in the music player.
Come to think of it, a Pokemon one would be incredible. I love Pokemon music and I think it would fit the format nicely.
That said, since the beginning I've been wanting Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts so either one of those and I'm happy.
@WoottWinds
Hell, let's bring all the obscure stuff out of Square's catalogue. Let's get some Rad Racer in there. : )
I don't mind, Theathrhytm Curtain Call was awesome. Though I'm hard pressed to think of a series that is as big as Final Fantasy and has as good of a soundtrack through pretty much the whole series. Maybe Castlevania? Though with Konami being the way they are now I doubt awesome crossovers like that are possible.
Would love a Kingdom Hearts Theatrhythm if possible due to Disney, or at least just the original Kingdom Hearts songs even if it would cut a fair amount of the potential songs.
Like other commenters here have said a Zelda or a Nintendo Theatrhythm would be really nice as well ^^.
I feel like Kingdom Hearts is the next logical step, assuming they don't do another dragon quest first. It'll be interesting to see what happens here!
I'd actually be against Kingdom Hearts. Why bother? I mean I love Yoko Shimomura's work, don't get me wrong. But skip the BS and go straight to Disney themselves. Theatrhythm Disney. They have a fantastic catalogue of music that is ripe for this kind of game. That's what I'd like.
Other than that, would be nice to get actual Chrono Cross tracks in some form. A few Chrono Trigger tracks was nice, but the music of Cross was far better in my opinion, and it didn't get a single track in Curtain Call. Very disheartening.
Yes please. First localise dragon quest. Then Zelda, metroid, star fox all stars. I don't play them but I know Pokémon has great music. Love the dungeon crawling wrapping of theatrhythm!
Shin Megami Tensei could do with one, given its legendary musical history, but I doubt ATLUS realizes this or that Squeenix would collaborate.
I've always wished for a Mega Man Theatrhythm. I don't care if it will never happen lol
Going four wily on games I'd love to see rendered in that art style:
Pokémon
Fire Emblem
Zelda
Luckily all have great music too
I was hoping for more Crono Trigger DLC on Curtain Call. I'd love to see more of these games but unless they are crossovers, SE doesn't have much to choose from cept KH. Not much for me to be excited about personally cause I didn't get into KH and DQ Theatrhythm didn't even make it out of Japan. Though if a cross over were possible I'd jump at a chance to get Megaman, Sonic, or Castlevania.
Free to download amiibo game where the character unlocks a piece of music from their game. Every amiibo could be compatible.
I wouldn't mind a new Theatrhythm game if they made it more like Guitar Hero where your inputs actually trigger the notes of an instrument to play. The bangs and clashes that Theatrhythm plays over the top of existing FF music is not my preferred way of doing music games.
America would like to have Theatrhythm Dragon Quest in the meantime. As far as a new one goes, perhaps one based on the Mana franchise?
Theatrythm Star Wars. .
Theatrhythm Dragon Quest please! Nintendo should definitely have a shot with Zelda, Mario and Pokemon too - they're missing out on milking a potential cash cow!
Kingdom Hearts Theatrhythm, why not? It is an amazing idea. Their are tons of available charecters to choose from like Sora, Riku, Xion, Roxas, Axel, maybe some disney characters. and the music is fun and amazing and while only having like 6 or 7 titles to pull music from they could put a lot more songs from each game and maybe some remix of orchestrated music in their to.
@wazlon The closest weve had to a Pokemon theatrythm game is Harmoknight on the 3ds with its secret pokemon themed stages
I think Zelda is the obvious answer and would be an awesome one. But if we're talking about Square-Enix properties I think a "of Mana" series Theatrhythm would be awesome. I'd love to hear more Secret and Legend of Mana tracks in a game like Theatrhythm.
1. Localize Theatrhythm Dragon Quest
2. Make Theatrhythm Nintendo
3. Profit
Mega Man Theatrhythm. Think about it.
I just want them to release more FF DLC tracks to Curtain Call. There's still a lot of music they could release. All the other music I like don't have enough games in the series to bother making a rhythm game out of, so I'd like them to continue updating CC.
A kingdom hearts themed would be great.
A Nintendo themed one though? Or heck, just take the soundtrack from Smash Bros, and make a Theatrhythm out of it. That would be ace.
@Noelemahc If they had Persona music in there as well then that could be brilliant. I can already imagine having demons like Nekomata and Orpheus as summons.
My BF would love another Theatrhythm game, he has played both the previous titles and quite a lot too. It's the only 3DS games he really seem to love, other than Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure (he seriously got A rank on all to unlock the secret ending).
@Bass_X0 I'd play that
I am in desperate need of a Theatrhythm Fire Emblem game.
How about Theatrhythm games for:
FF Tactics
Deus Ex (that one sounds a bit out there)
Secret of Mana (or the entire Seiken Densetsu series)
Xenogears
Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Nier
Kingdom Hearts
@WoottWinds: Agreed. A full blown nintendo one would be cool.
Localize DQ first. And Nintendo should localize Rhythm Heaven The Best.
So happy that Sega did localize their Hatsune Miku game on 3DS.
@patbacknitro17 Harmoknight was cool but a Pokemon Theatrhythm game would be awesome. I'd love to be tapping along to the music while there were cartoon episodes playing in the background. They could include music from both the videogame and the cartoon series like "you teach me and I'll teach you PO-KE-MOOOOOOOOON!"
A Theatrhythm Sonic game would also be great! Sonic games have a great library of music to choose from.
I could see Fire Emblem being in this art style. If Nintendo could work with Square Enix, Theatrhythm Fire Emblem would be great. But I think other Square Enix games like Kingdom Hearts would be more likely.
@DarthNocturnal
This. This x100000
Theatrhythm Smash Bros would break records.
@wazlon I agree it would be awsome, but hey atleast we have something. plus with pokemon having a ton of games plus the anime theirs alot of music to it.
