When The Pokémon Company unveiled some of its 20th Anniversary plans it confirmed that Mew would be included as a serial code in the upcoming first-gen Virtual Console releases, and also as a distribution in the current-gen releases - Pokémon X & Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Some European details have now emerged to build some Mew hype.
As expected the distribution will be via free serial codes, and in the UK they'll be available from GAME stores from 1st to 28th February; GAME also has dibs in Spain, from 1st to 24th February. GameStop will have the codes in Germany and Italy, from 4th-24th February in the former and 1st-24th February in the latter.
As for the 'mon's abilities, the press release says the following in addition to the fact the Legendary can make itself invisible at will.
LEVEL: 100
TYPE: Psychic
ABILITY: Synchronize
MOVE: Pound
There are more Mew-related goodies coming too, as outline below in an except from the UK press release.
Mew's appearance at GAME Digital PLC will take place from 1–28 February, and is timed to coincide with the release of the Pokémon TCG: Mythical Pokémon Collection—Mew scheduled to launch on 22 February. This is the first of the Mythical Pokémon Collections designed to celebrate Pokémon's milestone year. It includes a special Mew promo card and a pin of the Mythical Pokémon, plus two Pokémon TCG: Generations booster packs and a code to unlock the cards in the Pokémon TCG Online.
Mew fans can head to one of GAME Digital PLC UK's participating shops and look for even more collectible items featuring the original Mythical Pokémon Mew, including a plush, a Mew figurine with Great Ball from TOMY, and an exclusive t-shirt designed by BIOWORLD Europe. All items are exclusive to GAME Digital PLC in the United Kingdom while stocks last.
So there you have it; more legendary Pokémon are also coming later in the year. Will you be heading out to pick up a Mew gift?

Does anyone know if this is in the US too?
Wow... I actually called it in the previous article by saying GAME would be likely distributing some of the 20th Anniversary Pokémon!
I'm a Gen1 casual Pokemon player and I just dont' get the popularity of Mew. Was the Pokemon a big part of the TV series? With the big deal they made out of the Smash U game and DLC it makes me question why this particular one is so highly sought-after.
@zeta416 Yes, this event will be happening in the US starting next month.
hey Nintendo, you know how the 3DS is internet enabled right so how about letting us download these off the eShop
not everyone has access to a game store you know, not after they went bankrupt and closed most of them for example the nearest one to my town is 38 miles away and over a 2 hour train journey
Nice. I might get the PTCG Generations pack too as the Mew one is the only one that looks decent.
It is possible to get these after the event if you don't mind paying a £1.50 to certain people on ebay.
EDIT: I wonder what happened to the new steam type Pokémon?
@riChchestM What is there to happen? Every year it works this way... revealed in the end of the year surrounded by mystery until it is released when the new movie airs in Japan.
@OneBagTravel I don't understand the question. In Smash U the big deal was Mewtwo and not Mew.
The popularity of Mew was caused by the fact that everybody thought there were 150 Pokemon and Mew wasn't able to be caught (in the normal way).
@Interneto I'm referring to http://www.pokemonrubysapphire.com/en-gb/pokemon/volcanion Perhaps it will be film related. I don't know. This Mew thing is 20 year anniversary linked though.
@riChchestM I'm also referring to Volcanion. It is related to the following new movie.
@OneBagTravel Mew was in Gen 1 but very hard to get. He's also pretty powerful. Plus the first film centred around him and that's when a Pokémon movie got into cinemas.
Please, can you stop forcing us to go to stores when you can just distribute it over wifi. I don't recall any ORAS event so far except for Diancie that wasn't distributed by code. I thought the code feature would be used to give specific people event pokemon, e.g. when they win a competition. The fact that they're using it as their main way of distributing pokemon is dumb.
Distributing Mew over the internet would have been a lot more convenient, but at least GAME is on route to where I work. I'll be sure to pick up one.
What about other european countries, huh? Every time it is only in Game in UK. NOT FAIR IN THE 21ST CENTURY.
I will own one if the event arrives in Norway! I've been waiting forever to own a legit Mew!
I've never had a Mew as they were so hard to get hold of. I moan about codes, but they used to have link cable events at distant shopping centres! Anyhoo, looking forward to finally having a Mew even if it means trudging into GAME.
I guess it'll be through Game Mania over here in the Netherlands (and Belgium, as well).
There are a lot of event Pokémon this year. Will def make me dig my games out again: http://m.ign.com/wikis/pokemon-omega-ruby-alpha-sapphire/Event_Pokemon
"When The Pokémon Company unveiled some of its 20th Anniversary plans it confirmed that Mew would be included as a serial code in the upcoming first-gen Virtual Console releases, and also as a distribution in the current-gen releases"
I don't understand. A serial code in the VC releases?? So, I don't have to go into Game to get Mew in ORAS? Or is this something else???
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this store exclusive Pokemon stuff is garbage. A few years ago GAME closed a lot of their stores due to nearly entering administration, both stores within a reasonable distance from me where included in these. If I wanted to get this now, it's a 3 hour car drive. I'm not making a 3 hour car drive every month just for a Pokemon. I could understand it other years because they want these to be rare, but the 20th anniversary should be the one year they let everyone get these Pokemon. Just offer them over Wifi or don't bother.
Hate going into game to get Pokémon, my store treats you like your trying to buy... Adult materials featuring genetically small people
That's a shame I was hoping to get these legendaries. But I'm not going to GAME for them. What an awful place.
Hope they stop this by the time Jirachi gets handed out.
I'd prefer this to be wifi distributed. I don't have the time or money to be driving to a game store just to pick up a code.
This is getting ridiculous. Being constantly left out of these events because of where I live has really dampened my enthusiasm for Pokemon in the last year or so.
Doing it in-store is entirely for the benefit of the shops involved, it's really made me realise that they don't care about their fans at all.
Leaked distribution details from North America: Order a 20 pc mcugget box at Mcdonalds, then use the serial code on the box at a Nintendo Zone on a rainy wednesday (while supplies last).
@elekid Are you from the UK?
If you are, I will try and get you a serial code.
If you are not, I can't really help.
@Spike6958 I will try and get you a code.
I normally end up getting lots of codes, however I cannot make any guarantees.
Great...stuff like this only gets worse the less game stores remain.
Not surprised by this, game always gets the codes for legendary Pokémon which is an annoyance for me as the closest one is in town! Still when I go they act all flustered and have to ask someone in the back on his to get the code! Hopefully some of them over here in the UK are digital giveaways rather than serial saves me time and effort! I'll still get 2 codes as that's what I've always done (I've always got both versions of Pokémon!) So that's what I'll do. asking for 4 codes is a bit too much haha
Does anybody know how they'll handle the Irish release? Game has closed in Ireland, so we won't be getting the codes along with the UK. We do have Gamestop, but it wasn't mentioned in the article or on their website..
@Alundra-1998 Thanks, that's very kind of you to offer.
@HydroTendonMan Based on previous events, they will handle it by not having an Irish release. No one seems to have told them that we don't have Game anymore
@DoctorOverbuild My local GAME store gives me 4 codes for each distribution that they do as they know I have all four games.
I actually have a total of three copies of Pokémon Omega Ruby and three copies of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. It is just one copy of each that I have opened to play. There is a backstory to this of course.
I remember the first Mew I ever got when the original Pokemon Red and Blue were out on the Gameboy, travelled quite far. There were staff giving them out using a SNES console with a Super Gameboy in it. They stamped your hand so you only got one per person, me and my friend got two by offering the other hand the second time around. Things are a lot easier now
@Alundra-1998 oh do tell still I guess it doesn't hurt to ask I guess they might just think I want to re sell but I think if I had my 3ds in hand they'd realise I'm a massive fan boy! I might even mention your story in one of my videos ahhaa
@elekid
Ah cheers. Amazing how we get bundled in with the UK in most international stores but miss out on so much -.-
@Yorumi exactly
@HydroTendonMan maybe smiths might have it, they quietly had the shiny rayquaza codes last year. I can only hope.
Will be grabbing a couple today!
Hi everyone, I live in Brazil and Nintendo is not hosting the mew event here... I would appreciate it deeply if someone could grab me a code. I really want to have all of the mythical Pokémon. Thanks in advance.

Both my 3ds and Pokémon game are American, but I'm traveling to London and will try to get at least one serial code. If anyone's interested in trading it for an American code, please send me an email and we'll do the trade as soon as I grab the code.

Can someone spare me a US Mew code?
I would really appreciate it if someone has extra.
here's my email - [email protected]
thank you so much!
@kathilee if you still got a EU code left i would like one please, seems like these events never come to my country =(
I don't mind going to the store, but having to go to a desk and ask for a Mew is soul destroying! Especially when you have your "hardcore" gamers in a queue behind you..
So guys a friend of mine gave me a eu code but may 3ds and games are North American, will any of u like to change the code?
@kathilee I would love one of those codes, I'm currently in Kenya so I can expect that event to happen...never
@Joelfatjo13 If you still have a EU code my son would be so happy!
@kathilee I need one EU code x.x I've been looking for days, can you please send it to : [email protected] ?
Anyone still got a European mew code? I'm from Ireland so theres no chance of me getting one. Email me [email protected] or message me on twitter: @thehumantoad
@kathilee Hi I live in Ireland and so can't get one. If there's one left please send it to [email protected]
