FAST Racing NEO is hitting the eShop on 10th December, and we've already shared our review in which we say it's downright excellent. We even mention F-Zero in the opening paragraph, yet the devil's in the detail - this is very much its own game, not a tribute act.
Our video man Alex has decided to make this clear, so has listed five things about the game that aren't actually like F-Zero. Just with the aim of clearing it up in a nice concise way - he looks at the colour changing mechanic, track design and more besides.
Check it out below and consider clicking the little subscribe button on the video if you haven't already; Alex is talking about Nintendo every day for your entertainment.

Does anyone know if the game will release on midnight in the US? I want to play it as soon as it's available
@A01 : Or plan B.

Awesome thing about this is that the game is it's own thing while also having the F-Zero-ish Hero Mode. It's the best of both worlds! Can't wait to play it tomorrow!
@AlexOlney Was that bit of dialogue at the very end actually in the game? I wasn't expecting a Spiderman reference...
Thanks for the video. This game is fascinating to watch - can't wait to play it for myself. Oh, and thanks for that Easter egg at the end.
Wait, this game releases at midnight, or later tomorrow??
Looks so good and will fill an F-Zero sized hole but faster than F-ZERO GX it is not. Still nice and fast though so I'm not complaining. I'm hoping to b u at midnight
But how many ways is it not like Wipeout or Extreme G? Because thats a little less obvious
This looks great! I can't wait to play it!
Cool video, but a poorly choice of a way to promote the game, 5 ways its no f-zero, really?
Ya, it's important people don't go into this expecting an F-Zero sim or they'll be disappointed.
Nonetheless, it looks like a stunning futuristic racer in its own right. Different, yes, but still good.
Truth is, those differences are actually exactly why I'll never love any other futuristic racer as much as F-Zero, but hey, in a post-GX world, I'll take what I can get.
i see this as a mix between f-zero wipeout and extreme-G. I'm hungry and want a bone to chew on
It will be a challenging game, i'm very much "up for it" ^^
See? And everyone was like: "This is just like F-Zero! or "You F-Zero fans can shutup now!" Pff! You know nothing.
Anyway, I'm really excited fir this game!
Still not available here in Italy... and it's lunch time!
@andreoni79 I think the Wii. U eshop usually updates around 4pm - in the uk at least.
Here in the States, I'm expecting its availability at about 8:30 am. Wasn't available at 4 am . . . I know because I checked. : ) A wee excited for this one.
BTW, download size is 1221.9 MB
Great video. If Nintendo release another F-Zero the've got some tough competition now.
I don't want this too replace F-Zero cuz I want this too become its own franchise plus I want a new F-Zero or a remake/remaster which is the latest craze.
Ah, I can't get to youtube here. Any chance of a small list?
I haven't played an extreme g or f-zero game in forever and I definitely need to scratch that itch!! Very excited for this and will be getting it later today
@A01 Really? I don't have that problem. They may be a bit louder, but surely not 200%. I don't feel the need to lower the volume. But if so, I got a volume wheel on my keyboard. Most keyboards have at least volume buttons and of course, you can also change the volume of the youtube video itself.
@defrb: @chiptoon: Well to be related to XG it would have to offer a shooting mechanic. I would love it if they added that in a later update.
@Souflee: 1. This isn't a promoting video since it's from Nintendolife and not Shin'en. 2. Many people would dismiss this as an F-Zero clone which it clearly is not. So this video is actually very helpful.
I just downloaded the game and will try it out shortly. Can't wait.
Nice informative vid. I can't wait to try this game out tonight. I love F-Zero, not quite sure why Nintendo doesn't seem to, but I am glad that we are getting this to fill the hole.
For anyone that has played both games, does this game feel like F-Zero GX? Or does it feel more like Wipeout? The way the car drifts so far away from the center of camera at times makes it seem like it'll feel more like Wipeout.
@luke88 @andreoni79 Usually is updated around 2pm in UK, which is 3pm in Italy.
That's not F-zero ! .. this is F-Zero -

@TerrapinJess Admittedly I'm a HUGE Wipeout fan, but I still enjoy the F-Zero and Extreme-G games. Have you played XG3 on GameCube? Hands down the highlight of the series. I highly recommend it to any fans of the genre.
Playing that in Super-High-Res 480p with a Wavebird......ah good times, good times indeed. haha
It's very nice to play on PC with the Dolphin emu as well. Assuming you already own a copy, of course.
@sevex I've never experienced what you say is a trait indicative of Wipeout. Then again, I've always gone with the first-person camera view on any/every racing game that allows it. Maybe that's why...
But anyways, imo the handling characteristics are more like F-Zero than Wipeout or XG.
@The_Top_Loader Haha nice. Looks like I'm your 18th subscriber. Looking forward to future vids.
@MC808 yes I have! That was one of the few GameCube games I owned and I definitely can agree with you that that was the highlight of the series. I'm really hoping for a similar experience with this! I got it today but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
Playing a while now, and have to agree, this is not f-zero at all.
It's all about boosts, even wallhugging + boost is just fine, as long you boost.
To be honest it should have been less boost orientated for my tatse, but well^^
@TerrapinJess Let us know what you think!
@defrb Yeah, I agree. Too much importance is placed on boosting. I guess that's why I love Wipeout so much. Boosting can save the day, but the emphasis is usually on precision driving. And I'd love it even more if the combat aspect were totally removed. The Wipeouts on PS1, Saturn, and even the N64 one weren't as combat heavy as the "newer" ones. Wipeout XL being the pinnacle of the series, IMO. But I guess I should shut up about Wipeout, it's not really the topic here. lol
@MC808 I absolutely LOVE it... The mechanic of having to change colors to benefit from the boost pads is a really good concept that keeps things exciting... This is definitely a job well done and I'm getting a nostalgia feeling too that harkens back to the days of Star Wars Pod Racing/Extreme G/Wipeout. Seriously, anyone who like sci-fi racers needs to get themselves an early Christmas gift and download this!
@TerrapinJess Nice, it's always good to hear (or see, rather) people praising this genre of racers. Especially since the demise of the Wipeout series.
@MC808 Thanks man.. I appreciate it !..18 comes right after 17 !
