Pokkén Tournament is heading to the Wii U in 2016 and will be one of the system's key releases in the early part of the year. With a major announcement for the title due on 10th December, we were all set to find out which fighter and support characters were being added following a fan poll earlier in the year.
It seems, however, that the cat may be out of the bag. In the image below Pokénchi presenter Shoko Nakagawa is sitting in front of an arcade unit for the game, and the circled area appears to be a marketing display showing Sceptile as a new fighter in the game, with Electrode and Farfetch'd as support characters.
It looks fairly self explanatory yet, of course, is not 100% definite. We'll find out later in the week whether the grass-type is going to be a new addition to the fighting title.

Have we ever seen any of the Wii U version yet? I'm wondering how it will look and interact with the Gamepad. Knowing Nintendo I wouldn't be surprised if they 2D it like SSB. Not that it's fully open arena, but the angles look hice.
Cool, a Grass-type. I would've preferred Venusaur or something, but sure, Sceptile makes more sense as a fighter for this game I guess.
Fine with Sceptile. Hopefully Zoroark or Dewott/Samurott is next character
Extremely stoked if Sceptile is in this!
I could see Poliwrath in this, using Hypnosis as a short range Guard-breaking move. Sceptile is nice, though.
I would have preferred Sceptile to be in Smash as it would have made more sense (Charizard as the Gen I fire starter, Sceptile as the Gen III grass starter, and finally Greninja as the Gen VI water starter), but him being in Pokkén Tournament will be fine. Especially as his Pokkén debut would pave the way for his Smash moveset.
Swampert HAS to be playable now.
@rjejr I think the Wii U will have more content than the arcade. They're definitely not going to change the gameplay that's already present in the game, they'll probably add a couple of new characters and whatnot. The console version will definitely not be the lesser version.
I'm happy. Sceptile is my third favorite Pokemon. If he is in Pokken, I will totally main him.
But I'm afraid as well...The one Hoenn starter who isn't in yet is my favorite Pokemon....I hope they add Swampert as well.
I'd say Swamert's chances are pretty good. The game seems like it needs more slow, bulky bruisers to round out the roster, and Swampert would feel that role nicely.
Sceptile, whose Japan name is Jukain, does match the hint that was given for the reveal.
He's also fairly popular and from what I heard got a bit of votes in the Smash ballot.
I hope ditto will be available. I think that would be fun to play as and just copy the other guy.
@MrGuinea
He could be a final boss, because when transformed, has more speed than the original, XD
Fun fact:

Pokkén arcade controller.

Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade controller.
Too bad the Dissidia sub-series never reached Nintendo consoles, but at least we have an exclusive arcade port as well. To each his or her own, I guess.
@Tsuchinoko
Sceptile's popularity for Smash is in large majority the apparent desire for people to see the "starter elemental trio" completed on the roster (which I could not care less about), not because Sceptile is itself very popular, more popular than the final evolution of the other Grass starters perhaps. Grovyle is actually more popular than Sceptile as a Pokemon.
Still hoping for Wobbuffet
@AlexSora89 I really hope the new Dissidia can come to NX. Not likely but hey, one has to have some hope
Bravo with the tagline, Tom! Wynaut use a pun?
Perhaps the most surprising thing about this article is the total lack of comments about that girl's cuteness. Not lying, as soon as I saw the pic I thought the comment section would be flooded.
Well, I guess I'll have to be the first then XD
Why did I feel like I knew Sceptile was already in? Clearly I couldn't have...
Regardless, this makes a lot of sense.
@clvr That's what I thought too. Liked her slippers.
I'm really excited for this game. Bought a Wii u the day after it was announced. Then a little while later they said it was coming to arcades.
Sceptile is not a bad pokemon to add. I just hope they add at least another 4 before the game is released.
I thought Sceptile was a good fit for this game.
When I heard the announcement of a new character, I expected as much.
Why can't it get here faster.
@Jayvir
It seems the "conflict of the gods" plot of the Dissidia sub-series can't reach Nintendo consoles outside of rhythm games.
"There. Now can you PLEASE stop asking me to put such a minor character in Smash?"
—Sakurai, probably.
Wouldn't be the first time Shoko Nakagawa leaked something. All in all, pretty hyped that Sceptile is making it's way into Pokkén
Still holding out for Klefki or Chandelure. Genuinely! Though I imagine Klefki would be an assist if anything.
Oooh Vigoroth would make an ace fighter too! Always liked him over Slaking. Oh! And if Sceptile and Blaziken are both in they'll have to add Swampert! Best water starter bar none
I like her slippers.
