Monster Strike - a mobile phone smash in Japan with daily revenues of over $4 million - is shaping up to be something special on 3DS, too.
The game - which was co-created by former Capcom legend Yoshiki Okamoto - has shipped over a million copies in four days in Japan.
Like fellow Japanese smartphone hit Puzzle & Dragons, this physics-based role-playing title has been substantially beefed up for its 3DS release, with a more robust storyline and expanded gameplay. Also, the in-app purchases which have made the mobile version so irksome for many players are absent, too.
Are you interested in playing Monster Strike 3DS, should a western release happen? Let us know by posting a comment. In the meantime, we'd just like to say: Very asobemasu!

But... But... everyone says handheld gaming is dead!
You know there is something wrong when a mobile game ported to 3DS can sell (or will have sold) over 1M+ at $30.
@Xenocity Its not dead. You're still gaming on a mobile which is a handheld.
@Xenocity not realy. That's the it game in Japan right now and they added a buch of stuff. It also has online multiplayer
That advert made me laugh.
Very Asobemasu!
I like how the ad shows pretty much nothing about the game itself. Not very informative, if you ask me...
EDIT: Just watched some gameplay on YouTube. This game's gimmick is identical to the one found in an old Capcom game for Game Boy Color called "Metal Walker"! Considering Okamoto worked for Capcom, I find this interesting.
@Xenocity If I remember correctly, its price point is ¥4700.
This follows games like Dragon Quest VIII, which had a mobile version that was probably half the price of the 3DS version yet still sold way over half a million copies.
@GeminiSaint It's basicly all what the mobile game ads does, show 99% CGI, animation, etc. and show off gameplay of 2 seconds at the end.
So in other words, come Wednesday, Nintendo will be killing it on the Media Create report
Wow, another million seller on 3DS confirmed?
Never even heard about it before this! Cool news, especially with the lack of microtransactions.
@Gerbwmu And then some. Beyond the 3DS powerhouses (MH, YW, and now, possibly, MS)... They've already essentially sold out their Splatoon and SMM Wii U bundles nationwide.
The big knock is going to be the #FE sales, sadly it could be worse than the lowest predictions.
@faint I'll just start looking for your comments for Japanese chart updates!
I hope smartphone games being de-microtransaction'd and fleshed out in a handheld remake becomes a trend.
A lot of smartphone games have good ideas and a fun premise but are ruined by
-Intrusive or predatory micro transactions/ads
-touch screen only controls
-excessive reliance on social features
-too much time limited content
-Firmware updates literally rendering games unplayable(freedom unite for example)
-more frequent crashes
-often times if you have an older device(even just a couple years old) it might not run properly or at all.
Etc.
@ACK it's going to be bad. Like 30k or less bad
Really good news, I hope there will always be room in the market for Nintendo handhelds.
@faint ...And you just had to get into the specifics, didn't you? I know, I know... But seeing the figure in print just makes it hurt all the worse.
Basically since the SNES era RPGs on Nintendo consoles have not been able to catch a break in Japan. It's pretty discouraging after both Xenoblades' moderate sales performance despite their magnificence. You wonder if there is anything Nintendo can do short of pulling out all the stops to ensure every significant RPG release is on their next console, along with continuing to fund their own distinct catalog.
Now #FE isn't the kind of game to burst out of the gates, so you want to believe maybe if word of mouth is positive... But I have to stop myself there, because very few console games these days show any significant legs, particularly once you get outside the wheelhouse of a few established franchises and Nintendo long-strong. Add to that the pitiful legs of previous Wii U "core" games in Japan and it's clear #FE has next to no chance to turn it around.
Yet, in this case it's exceptionally upsetting because even if this game shows little of the FE heritage... It carries its namesake along with an original spin on popular gameplay systems and suitable development effort. At best, maybe it will help encourage Nintendo to strive for more new franchises in various genres rather than the tired spinoff route.
@ACK I think the real issue is the games primary hook is idol culture. While it's just making it way over here I think the Japanese maybe getting sick of it. This would have sold way better three years ago but what can ya do.
@3MonthBeef not dealt. Watch a YouTube lets play or something.
@Xenocity Who said mobile gaming is dead? I will break them in half! lol. There isnt enough game footage in that trailer.
