The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is out very soon and to celebrate Nintendo Japan has released a charming video showing off some of the amazing music in the game. In the video we can see a violin and accordion being played with great gusto; it all adds up to a very impressive sound.
Looking back to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds composer Ryo Nagamatsu discussed the challenges of producing high quality music for the 3DS:
By "orchestra", I assume you mean live orchestra. We never intended to use a live orchestra for the development of this game. There are various reasons to this from a development perspective.
The most prominent reason is that we wanted to create optimal sound for Nintendo 3DS. Live orchestras are definitely impressive, but they produce too much reverberation and include too many low-pitch sounds to be suitable for the Nintendo 3DS speakers.
This time, our goal was to create sounds that satisfied both players who use headphones and those who don't. We wanted, therefore, orchestra-quality sounds that had the appropriate reverberation and instrumental arrangement for the Nintendo 3DS speakers. We concluded that the best approach would be to use the high quality sound resources that are now available to us.

I'm very happy that the game gets this kind of treatment!
Man that lady is killin' it! Such talented people.
AWESOME! I have the LOZALBW soundtrack cd form Club Nintendo - such awesome High level quality!
Guess the music's about the only thing I'll get out of this Zelda as I won't get the game. It's wonderful consolation, though, makes it a bit more bearable.
my son and I got a chance to finally get to see the Symphony of the Goddess in NY...simply amazing...im happy that all Zelda games are continuing to record w/ a live orchestra
Nintendo music department will be in good hands when Koji Kondi retires. Ryo Nagamatsu is a musical genius.
Oh, live music!
I thought it was digital, since A Link Between Worlds had a superb quality digital soundtrack too.
Can't wait for Zelda U's live soundtrack. :3
Love it! That Violin/accordian combo is just awesome sounding. I really like this sound track!
@Moshugan
Can't wait for Zelda U... Anything really.
I love that Nintendo's musical direction over the last few years has gone to the orchestral/live performance kind of route. It really adds a lot to the games that you play, it can be such a big part of the experience, and it just rounds off a really high quality product in my opinion. The MarioKart 8 music videos inspired me a lot!
Seeing Koji Kondo playing the accordion brings joy to my heart <3
@HappyHappyist Awesome. Where can I see that? I've only seen him play piano. If you were thinking that this video is showing Koji Kondo play accordion, I think you are mistaken.
@mid_55 And it sure helps that the live stuff is really good and full of variety, too. This track is so alive, for instance. The Splatoon stuff lends so much identity to the game. Mario Kart 8 tracks add a ton to the game as well.
I'm almost as excited for the soundtrack to the new Zelda game as I am for everything else.
I'm definitely more excited about the soundtrack to this game than the game itself. ( And I love co-op. It should have been for me but we have one 3DS at home... Wii U would have been much better for this family)
Good theme!
