Due to the passing of Satoru Iwata earlier this week the information for the European Nintendo Download Update wasn't issued without request. The details are available now, and we have some particularly promising retro and familiar releases along with a music streaming service on Wii U, while the 3DS serves up some varied options. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure (Nintendo, €19.99 / £17.99) - A 3D roaming game in which you explore as the iconic mascot, this attempted to make use of the Wii Remote and to cash-in on the much-loved franchise. There are some mini-games thrown in, too, but we were rather unimpressed with this in our review.
Sense by Play.me (d-mobilelab, free download with subscription fee) - A music streaming web radio service, in which you can choose from a range of genre and mood-based channels. You can set favourite songs to a playlist to listen to whenever you like, but much will likely depend on the available catalogue and subscription cost.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - This is another entry in the quirky and charming AlphaDream RPG series. In this case Mario & Luigi meet up with baby versions of themselves, with plenty of wit and shenanigans taking place as a result. We gave this a hearty recommendation in our Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time review.
Final Fight One (Capcom, €6.99 / £6.29) - The Game Boy Advance had a few SNES remakes, and this gives the treatment to the original 16-bit version of Final Fight. There are three playable characters, a new stage, special outfits and mode in the portable version, so we'll take to the streets and bash out a review.
Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival (Capcom, €6.99 / £6.29) - Just like Final Fight One this is a GBA remaster of the SNES original, in this case including modes such as Arcade, Team Battle, Time Attack and Missions. We've previously summarised this as a "fun but flawed port", but will take a fresh look on Wii U.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Frenchy Bird (Carbon Fire Studio, €0.99 / £0.89 until 23rd July, normally €1.99 / £1.79)
Super Toy Cars (Eclipse Games, €3.99 / £3.49 until 23rd July, normally €7.99 / £6.99)
Squids Odyssey (The Game Bakers, €5.99 / £4.99 until 13th August, normally €12.99 / £9.99)
3DS eShop
Samurai Defender (CIRCLE Entertainment, €2.99 / £2.39) - A side-on castle defence game set in the "Warring States period of Japan". You tap on enemies to attack them with your bowmen, while earning coins and levelling up boosts your abilities and defensive options. We weren't particularly impressed in our Samurai Defender review.
Epic Word Search Collection (Lightwood Games, €7.99 / £5.99) - This promises 'huge' puzzles in which you use the Circle Pad / D-Pad and stylus to find and highlight a lot of words. What else can be said?
I Love My Dogs (Bigben Interactive, €24.99 / £19.99) - So far this series has shown love for horses, pets and more, with you looking after various little people and creatures - now it's time for the dogs to be cared for. You know the drill by now with these sim games, though in this case you're at least looking after abandoned dogs, so there's a feel-good factor. We'll dig out our stylus and find some dog treats to bring you a review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Squids Odyssey (The Game Bakers, €5.99 / £4.99 until 13th August, normally €12.99 / £9.99)
AeternoBlade (CORECELL, €7.99 / £7.19 until 13th August, normally €14.99 / £13.50)
Fairune (CIRCLE Entertainment, €1.99 / £1.59 until 6th August, normally €2.99 / £2.39)
Parking Star 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, €1.99 / £1.25 until 6th August, normally €2.99 / £2.49)
3DS HOME Themes
Eevee Collection: Espeon & Umbreon (Nintendo, €1.99 / £ 1.79)
Pokémon: Mega Charizard Y & Mega Rayquaza (Nintendo, €1.99 / £ 1.79)
That's the full European line-up for this week - let us know what you'll be downloading in the poll and comments below.

This was posted yesterday?
Edit:
It even said 2 days ago when I refreshed. But it's now fixed so ignore this post.
Also, Mario & Luigi for me.
Possibly Partners in Time in addition to Superstar Saga.
The radio app seems really interesting, good to see more apps coming to the Wii U
Nintendo Download for Europe posting on Thursday now?
Where's Nintendo download for NA?
@Splatburst Yeah, my bad. I'd setup a draft (with a poll code etc) earlier in the week and I forgot to fix it before initially publishing.
@Kenology This is an exception in light of the passing of Satoru Iwata being announced on Monday.
So NA should be posted later I am guessing.
Oh wow.... yet another Wii game for Europe.... I wonder if NA will ever get a Wii game again...
@ThomasBW84 Ah, I see. Understood.
Just the Wii U app. Waiting for Streets of Rage 2 next week!
I actually quite like PokéPark Wii 1 & 2, they're just kinda chill games.
2 was a lot better though with more substantial mini-games, better combat and multiple characters.
Streets of Rage II 3D next week. Woohoo!!
@ikki5 Yeah, I was eagerly anticipating Kirbys return to dreamland wii. Never dropped so I paid up for a used physical copy. I prefer physical media but would have given Nintendo my money day one.
Pokepark seemed fairly limited and I couldn't recommend it at that price, maybe for $10 for kids as it was kind of cute. Pokepark 2 was much better though, you got to play as multiple characters, had a worthy storyline and some more difficult boss battles after the main story was over. I thought for the longest time they would make a Pokepark 3 w/ amiibo support, seemed the perfect game for it, but instead they give us board game ACaF.
Radio app is a nice bonus. Reminds me when the Wii U and Gamepad were first unvield how I thought the Gamepad would make a really cool photo album or clock, like all those 3DS apps, but instead it goes unused. If the streaming music app worked out of the Gamepad speakers and you could keep the tv turned off that might be ok for a small dorm room for background music while you did your homework. Could have also used a calculator app. I suppose they didn't want people to leave there Wii U on all the time for fear of it overheating. If NX also has a tablet hopefully it works independently as a tablet so we can have things like streaming music, photo albums, Youtube, calculators, all of that stuff. I don't think Sony Dash sold well but Gamepad could have really been something. Gamepad is such a wasted opportunity.
@shigulicious Well.. it just baffles my mind really... Europe has something like 8 Wii titles now? We still have yet to get one after the initial launch of them. I really don't understand why Nintendo has stopped caring about the biggest gaming region. Someone from NoA needs to be fired because this is getting pathetic.
Edit
Correction, 9 Wii titles, yeah, the same number as Japan. It's strange.
Nothing for North America at all this week? This is reminding me of last week, when the 3DS got absolutely nothing! (in all seriousness though, that Mega Charizard Y and Mega Rayquaza theme is really freaking tempting whenever it gets here, due to personal fanfiction reasons. )
@ThomasBW84 There's a dollar sign for I Love My Dogs!
How many Street Fighter 2's does the Virtual Console need!
Also nothing for me this week.
@Aeruon And for Australia.
@EmmatheBest We are at least getting Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 demo in NA. According to the gamefaqs.com 3ds board.
Nothing for me this week, though I don't mind that after what happened.
@ThomasBW84 it says Sense by Play.me is with subscription free. Should it say subscription fee?
Nothing for me this week.
@crimsontadpoles Yep, corrected that, subscription fee. Not ideal when errors are THAT misleading!
The nothing for me this week option is back... Booooooo!
That Sense by play.me app will surely not cater to my tastes, but I've been sinking the hours into Superstar Saga recently and nearly finished it, so what better moment to jump straight into Partners in Time?
@ThomasBW84 will there be a NA version?
Well, just hanging around for the NA version.
I'm working on an NA version, I've prepped what I can and will see what then pops up on the store, as NoA hasn't issued its standard press release.
Why does NA still only have SMG2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Punch Out? I thought we were going to get more wii titles xD.
Also who is NoE's president? We never hear from him Unlike Reggie and Iwata, because NoE's president is doing a good job on VC releases in his country
Final Fight One is a decent version, albeit single player only here. As good as we'll get unless the arcade version comes along.
The GBA version of Super Street Fighter II is rather more redundant here unfortunately, lacking both the full controls and multiplayer modes of the SNES ports (Shame they won't let us use the Gamepad to simulate a 2nd GBA and copy of the game to at least make 2 player possible).
I do like the character portraits in this one a lot though.
@ikki5 yea, I saw it had no idea what the game was but was happy that at least they put a wii game out. Then I realized it was European
@TheAceofMystery Satoru Shibata is the president of NoE (ノ^∇^)
@rjejr agreed, the game pad mis-use/ignoring is by far the biggest reason the Wii u has failed imo.
it's like a catch 22 for Nintendo, they don't want their devices to be 'multimedia electronics' (no DVD player/usb plug and play etc.) But then they have YouTube/Netflix apps for media and boast of the interactive tvii app (fail) and tv remote features as part of your living room electronics.
The bottom line is tablet devices are made to be portable, multipurpose, connective and independent. The game pad is none of those things and simply isnt as good in any way except analogue sticks at doing 'tablet tasks'! I find it strange that Nintendo, a company famed for new ideas and risk taking has not even tried one new thing with the game pad with regards to apps or stand alone software. Is a panoramic flight with birds the best they could think off when they were thinking how the hardware could be used best!?!
@Ralek85 That came out last week...
@shigulicious I've wanted that one since it came out. Is it as amazing as it sounds? Maybe I'm just cheap; but I'm still hoping for a North American download.
Be warned about Pokepark.
Your thumb will be begging for that nunchuk in no time after using the D Pad for a short while...
Sense has been taken off the eShop and it's Miiverse community has been taken down too.
Server issues by the looks of things.
Oh my 3ds. Will you ever be graced with a good update week?
@ikki5 Biggest gaming region is Europe I think you will find.
Maybe mario and luigi but I'm in no rush quite the backlog plus the dawn of justice trailer has sparked a bit of a dc reading binge for me.
I've got to run downloaded on both systems to honour Iwata!
@Zelda_Rocks it's really good. Very polished game. Classic Kirby
Normally, Partners in Time would have been an instant buy, but due to the stupid DS overpay in Dual Screen mode and the even more stupid D-Pad orientation switch in vertical mode (which properly displays both screens on the TV without the overlay that shrinks the screens down) that cant be toggled off, which made Yoshis Island DS already semi unplayable due to it being way too small, ill sadly pass.
Other than that, interesting GBA offerings, but nothing on my priority List at the moment.
GBA VC doesn't support multiplayer, right? Why on EARTH would you put a Street Fighter game on something that can't be played 2 player?
All of them. Don't need the TurboGrafx and Genesis versions though. But give us Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Super Puzzle Fighter II on GBA.
Because it is still fun as a one player game of any version. I've never played any handheld game against a second person in my life, only trading between Pokémon cartridges that I owned. Only being able to play single player has never stopped me from buying a game I want.
Final Fight One does better than the SNES, all the characters plus Zero outfits for Guy and Cody, industrial stage reinstated, more enemies on screen. Japanese version wins though as the western versions retain the daft removal of Poison and Roxy.
SSF2 turbo Revival is far from my favourite SF2 game, its an odd version, and the characters are lacking their extra animations when walking backwards, just like the 16 bit versions. The music is also pretty lacking I think.
Every week I see the nintendo eshop update get worse and the ps store get better. I'm glad I bought a ps4, ps3 and psvita. (I still own a 3ds and wiiU for exclusives, but still, it's a shame. P.S. I read both nintendolife and pushsquare daily.)
I like it. It has large sprites, Super Moves, more special and normal moves for some characters, new backgrounds for some characters and Akuma as a playable character. Just avoid activating that glitch! I had the GBA cart back in the day and don't remember seeing that glitch often. Its really not a game killer unlike what other people say about it.
Of course, the arcade version of SSFIIT and HD Remix are the best SFII games overall. But as far as the best SNES and GBA SFII games go, its equal to SNES SSFII, I'd say.
@Bass_X0 I like the Megadrive version, subjective I know!
I never got the glitch on the GBA either, I thought was a good version at the time, but GBA could have managed better renditions of the tunes Im sure.
Weirdly, Akuma is the only character who retains the arcade animation for walking backwards in this version.
the only music subscription service app that i want on my wii u console (or 3ds) is spotifiy
maybe i could download the Sense by Play.me but that would mean i'll betray spotifiy
Can't seem to find Sense in the eshop... weird
I played Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival so much on my GBA.
For some reason its the only Street Fighter that you can use Guile's Sonic Boom and Flashkick without having to charge them. So i would use him all the time. When i normally never play as Guile as i can't get on with the charging of his moves.
just check on wii u eshop and the sense was not there! i guess it is not available for uk wii u eshop
When will we get the Nikki home theme
@DEAD Sense is not available in France/Belgium either.
So is Squids odyssey worth checking out for 5 quid? It looks a bit like a iOS game a first glance. Also come on Nintendo give us Spotify I already subscribe to that.
yeah what @The__Goomba say! (the spotifiy app)
@MightyKrypto ok
well i'm not bothered about the sense app not releasing on some European countries anyway because i do have a spotify account anyway and beside, the UK Wii u Eshop did have the BBC iplayer app and only the UK Wii U Eshop
OH yeah Australia will get inazuma eleven go light and inazuma eleven go shadow this weekend
(i thought that i will let you know 3ds user in Australia)
@andyg1971 Not even close.
http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/
You'll see that NA has almost the highest sales for every platform. There are only a few where Europe had the most and it is mostly with Playstation and then the 3DS with Japan.
Nice try but NA is the bigger market in general and especially for Nintendo which is who we are talking about now.
@ULTRA-64 -panoramic flight with birds
Oh man, forgot all about those. I wonder how many they sold at $3 a pop?
I'd rather they made hangman w/ videochat. Or checkers. Or chess. Or battleship. Or Connect 4. Anything my 10 year old son could play w/ his 9 year old cousin who lives in another state. I guess they could just videochat if my brother in law every gets his Wii U online. He got it for Christmas, I even gave him the code for Gaucamelee, but he isn't online yet. Maybe I should let him know about the videochat, I bet he doesn't even know it's on there.
Sorry to bore you w/ all that.
Squids Odyssey is a nice turnbased flick-your-squid RPG with lots of content and unlockables. If you like underwater adventures, grab it while on sale! 9
Any news on what happened to Sense?
Sense seems to have been taken down. I have it installed but it can't connect.
@SKTTR Isnt that a Cross Purchase game? You know, buy the Wii U/3DS version, get the other version for free?
