Pokémon has been a part of our gaming lives since 1995 and has sold millions of units across many different Nintendo formats. It has enraptured generations of players and created a merchandising juggernaut which rumbles on relentlessly, even to this day.
As hard as it is to believe, not everyone knows what the fuss is all about - and with that in mind, Nintendo's YouTube Family Channel has created a video which attempts to sum up the appeal of the series, its core mechanics and its addictive gameplay.
Sure, it's a bit cheesy and will no doubt raise the blood pressure of any truly dedicated Pokémon fan, but we imagine that concerned parents - who have overheard their kids talking about "Mega-Evolving their Garchomp" and assume it's some kind of slang for drugs - will be reassured by this informative clip.

Meh.....
@KTT I thought they did a pretty good job! What were you expecting, a high-budget action sequence targeted at adults?
Wait, there are people out there who know absolutely nothing about Pokemon?
You're saying that mega evolving a Garchomp isn't drugs? Yikes, it appears that I've been playing pokemon wrong all this time.
Oh what in gods name is this?
Why does "kid-friendly" stuff always have to be embarrassing and/or cheesy? Would it be so difficult to have someone present information in a relatable manner instead of simulating obsession?
wow wow wow. Pokémon is NOT a drug? Why in ***s name am I addicted then...
Yeah. I still don't care.
@KTT Maybe Nintendo is realising that the current generation of Pokémon fans got into it when they were kids, and they're focusing their marketing on trying to recapture the younger demographic again. After all, it's much easier to influence kids than to influence adults, and the older we get, the more stubborn we get.
Honestly, I'd say that's a very good video! It's concise enough, yet explains enough vital information, for anyone's tastes! So, it seems like a perfectly fine informative video to me!
@KTT
This isn't bad as far as Youtube videos go, but I would expect a bit more from an officially sponsored channel, and especially from Nintendo itself. i see what they were going for, but they should have quickened the pacing a bit to give it a bit more oomph.
I don't know why they don't make live-action ads like they used to in the 90's-early 2000's, but more modern. Some of them were actually pretty good, like the bus driver smashing a bus-load of Pokemon into a Gameboy, or the one with the two kids trading Pokemon.
Personally I feel they should have used a format similar to that of the games' opening sequences. In which a Pokemon Professor explains the world of Pokemon. After all, for just about all of us who play the games, this is our first experience in which we are immersed within Pokemon world and the creatures which inhabit it.
Mega Evolve is new slang for drugs, confirmed.
