Bandai Namco has released a trailer for its forthcoming update of the 3DS title Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy. Going by the name Ace Combat 3D: Cross Rumble Plus in Japan, the title is one of the first 3DS releases to include support for the newly-released amiibo range of interactive toys.
Tapping a compatible figure onto the New 3DS touchscreen will unlock special liveries for your fighter jets, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Samus Aran and Link.
The game hits Japanese stores in January. We're still waiting on news of a western release, but given the amiibo connection, we'd guess that it's looking pretty likely.

YouTube is acting up again on my phone. Could somebody list the amiibos on this game besides the ones listed in the article?
Some the planes are meh, Fox and Samus's planes should in the color of their original ships, would be cool to use something that looks like a Arwing.
As the world is going digital, Nintendo is moving in the opposite direction with more tangible physical products. I don't know, Amiibo seems like a gimmick to me, but Nintendo always like doing the opposite to set themselves apart from the competition. 2 screens, 3d, motion controller, etc but this toy figure thing only attracts hardcore fans, not general gamers.
Now it's time for me to get a 'New 3ds LL'.
This baby is day one! Hope it's a lunch day release in Euroland. And dare I dream with a Wii U version down the line.... or maybe my Ego is writing checks my body can't cash again.
@Shiryu Lush! Is this online multiplayer?
@cfgk24 The original sadly had no multiplayer at all, the games really only weakness. I assume the new version sadly has none either.
@Tsurii897
Thanks! I'm all set with my amiibo pre/orders then should I pick up this game by then.
They should make a Wii U version, or a different Wii U dogfighting game. Geez I forget what game or system it was but my cousins and I used to play this one when we visited them back in the day. It was fun. You could crash your jet into the terrain if you were feeling stupid
Looks cool, the planes not the paintings.
If this comes out in the west I'll have to get it and sell my old copy for like a 1$ lol. I'll probably just keep it. I'm glad that 3rd parties are getting into the Amiibo thing even if it's a closer partner like Namco. Maybe Sega is next........oh wait, they don't make good games anymore. Never mind!
@OmegaStar Sorry but Bayonetta tainted Peach long before this game.
the only thing amiibos are doing is nintend-izing 3rd party games.
Any game that supports amiibos has my full attention
If this has online play I will be sold I loved the original game. And this looks even nicer. Plus the amiibo support is cool
I hope it has a lot of extra features and contents besides the amiibo support.
I loved the original game a lot, but from this trailer, I see the exact same game and I still don't see any reason to buy this despite I really want another Ace Combat games that bad...
Please tell me there's online play and free flight mode this time around. It'd be incredibly stupid to rerelease the game with just amiibo support shoved in.
No Yoshi plane, no dice.
That bowser plane looks beast! Can't say the same about the others though They seem to have missed a chance to throw in some more star fox refereces though.
If I can't transfer my save data from the original game I will flip.
@Nintendian No matter how digital the world gets, toys will always be in fashion. Toys that give digital rewards... I'd say Nintendos onto a winner.
@Nintendian tell that to all the empty shelves where Amiibos were
