With the festive reveal of our staff and reader awards results, we realised that the release line-up of 2014 had given us an opportunity to re-assess some of Nintendo's biggest franchises and determine current-day favourites. In our first poll Mario Kart 8 boosted away with over 50% of the vote, while the Wii U momentum continued with the HD entry seizing the Super Smash Bros. crown.

Now, as we're sure many guessed before now, we're moving onto the Pokémon franchise, arguably the most valuable of all - in terms of ongoing appeal and sales - to Nintendo, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak. This year's release - Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire - earned a third-place spot in the reader's 3DS Game of the Year awards, but didn't make the same impact as X & Y in terms of revolutionising (or evolving) the series; Nintendo may not care a jot, as sales so far have been impressive and actually shown greater momentum than the hugely successful predecessor on 3DS.

As such an important brand, we're certainly interested to see which way the voting goes. We've only included the main series here, and are listing remasters or 'director's cuts' that were prominent releases in their own right; even when the likes of ORAS are filling a year between all-new entries, they can bring improvements and new content to the table. In the previous polls modern games - with online connectivity, flashier visuals and enhanced capabilities - have seen off their retro challengers. We'll see whether the online power enjoyed in this current generation sees off the link cable days, or whether early online efforts on the DS steal a march on both ends of the scale.

As an additional note, we're listing generations and dual releases together, as we do in our game pages.

You can vote for your outright favourite in the poll, and get into the debate proper in the comments. Have at it!
