It's that time again, North America, and a little later than normal this week. There's a major Wii U retail release for Zelda and action fans, an enjoyable slice of Game Boy Advance goodness along with some discounts and assorted other goodies. Let's get to it.
Missed the European Nintendo Download update earlier this week? Fear not, the details are right here.
Wii U Retail Download
Hyrule Warriors (Nintendo, $59.99) — The first of this period's wave of big-hitting Wii U retail titles arrives, with a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo to bring us a combination of Dynasty Warriors and The Legend of Zelda. With an impressive cast and an adventure that travels across Hyrule, local co-op play and a retro-infused Adventure mode, this could potentially give Zelda fans the nostalgia and hack 'n slash combo they never knew they needed. You can read what we think of it in our Hyrule Warriors review. Available from 26th September.
Wii U eShop
Angry Bunnies: Colossal Carrot Crusade (Cypronia, $8.99) — The transition of 3DS games to Wii U continues with this one, a physics-based game that's basically Angry Birds with bunnies. This promises 150 levels, and although we were thoroughly unimpressed with the portable entry we'll give this one a fresh look on Wii U.
Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, $2.49) — The 3DS eShop title makes its way to the Wii U's oche with some notable enhancements, including a combo feature and a new arcade mode with online leaderboards. Unfortunately these additions don't make it a must-have, as is made clear in our Darts Up review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mario Golf: Advance Tour (Nintendo, $7.99) — This entry in the plumber's golf spin-off series emphasizes its efforts to incorporate RPG aspects into the basic gameplay, which is an area that some fans of these portable sports games particularly love. It's a bit of a success in this regard, too, as we explained in our Mario Golf Advance Tour review.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Armillo (Fuzzy Wuzzy Games, $4.99 until 6th October, normally $7.99)
Swords & Soldiers (Two Tribes, $1.99 until 9th October, normally $2.99)
Spin The Bottle: Bumpie's Party (KnapNok Games, $8.39 until 12th October, normally $11.99)
Wii U eShop Demo
Spin The Bottle: Bumpie's Party (KnapNok Games, free)
3DS eShop
Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival (Konami, $19.99) — Bringing the TV series to 3DS, this is all about collectible cards and doing battle to improve your deck. There are 11 different playable characters and 40 that make appearances, in total, from the TV show. We weren't blown away by this one but gave it a reasonable recommendation; check out our Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival review for the full lowdown.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Glory of Generals (CIRCLE Entertainment, $6.99 until 9th October, normally $9.99)

No Game & Watch Gallery 3?... Drat... stupid Europe getting all the good VC games exclusively...
nothing.
I sorta wanted the Mario Golf GBA title but I'm gonna be too busy with Hyrule Warriors. And that's a good thing, because the 3DS gets pretty much nothing this week. Guess that's more time for theatrhythm.
I pre-ordered Hyrule Warriors at Gamestop, so I'll be picking that up there along with the OoT Skin DLC. Don't forget to register with Club Nintendo for extra skins..
The first thing I will get is Tropical Freeze which will be on sale this week and then I will redeem my Hyrule Warriors download code whenever GameStop decides to send it to me.
Let's see what gets put on Smash sale..
Nothing for me....at least until I see what the Smash discounts are.
Where's super smashing sales?
I don't think I'm downloading any Nintendo games this week maybe next week, I'm getting the physical version of Hyrule Warriors from GameStop tomorrow morning and might get the season pass too.
is the 3ds to weak to do mario golf. That would of been day 1 pick up for me. Im glad no longer gets any of my cash. all going into vita sales
Glory of Generals 6.99 maybe make it 99 cents then someone will buy the crap
Still waiting for a sale on Steal Empire (intentional misspelling). Well, I should be getting Bravely Default in the mail tomorrow, and I'll be getting my Smash Bros. pre-order next Friday. EXCITE!
Weak week.
@DiscoGentleman As much as I would like FF to come here, I highly doubt it will. So if you're in Japan and have the extra cash go ahead. You have my blessing and jealousy.
Picking up HW at retail somewhere tomorrow, wherever I can find it first.
Is here any reason to pick it up as a download besides the 10% DDP? I'm pretty sure the Ganandorf skins are any purchase registered on Club Ntntendo, and some retailers have their own skins - really annoying, what does the download offer besides a 2 hour wait for the 8GB DL?
Getting Hyrule Warriors via disc not digital, but still voted for that.
Armillo and Swords & Soldier sales look tempting as well. And eventually I'll get Mario Golf Advance, but I'm still playing the 3DS game a bunch.
@SuperMalleo NoA did, at least.
So sad. I was working last night at gamestop and they had the shipment lined up in the back. Sometimes I wish I worked for a store that broke street dates.
On a less impatient note I'm very excited to pick this up tomorrow.
Any idea if Hyrule Warriors will be a midnight download?
Nothing for me this week.
@SetupDisk It says it is on the eshop.
Armarillo on sale! Nice! Guess it worked out that I was slacking on buying it!
I'll be downloading Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival.
Despite the disappointments and cut content.
Been wanting to try a new Yugioh game anyway, even though it's outdated(Card wise).
This will also be my last Yugioh game, due to the recent rule changes being terrible & Pendulum monsters just ruining Yugioh for me.
It was the last card game I cared about, been playing it since my childhood, but after this game, it's time for me to move on from it.
That sounds depressing
Oh, and another demo for Wii U, I think that's 2 in 4 weeks, after none for 9 months, things are picking up. And sales are always welcome.
@GregDavisBlows
Great stuff.
I might get the Mario golf advance tour since I loved that game and still have my physical copy plus I could play it with my family who says a lot of games I have are boring.
2 weeks in a row that Nintendo has helped me save $$$!! Thank you guys!..... Meaning nothing good to buy!
Def waiting for reviews on Dynasty Warrior - Zelda edition
Never really enjoyed the series so I can't see how reskinning it with a Zelda theme will make me bust out my wallet.
Edit: oh yeah, is there anyone else that would want Nintendo to just port over Mario Golf World Tour on the 3DS to the Wii U?
Nothing again...
I'll wait to see what the sales are.
@DiscoGentleman I got one when I was there last year and I have enjoyed it quite a bit even though the only exclusive games I own are on the virtual console. It came with NSMBU and Wii Party U(don't own the NA version of this) and I also got MK8 for the promotion since some games weren't available for NA... I am also thinking of getting Fatal Frame, but I've never played the series before.
Also if you plan to buy the digital version, make sure you get the 32GB (unless you have a hard drive) which will also get you points towards nintendo network premium/digital deluxe. The game is around 14GB by the way.
@GregDavisBlows
Tropical Freeze is an amazing platformer. Great level design, great music and beautiful visuals. Hope you enjoy it!
they probably won't put tropical freeze on sale but its most likely gunna be donkey kong country returns 3d if we are lucky but its most likely gunna be old vc donkey kong games.
Swords & Soldiers is a solid game and well worth $2.
Bumpie's Party is also pretty cool and worth the discounted price, although not a type of game that everyone will enjoy. (Try the demo and find out if it's your thing!)
But since I already own those games, the only thing this week that has me interested at all is Armillo. Looks cool, but I haven't tried the game yet...
I'll wait for Hyrule Warriors Ultimate which may or may not happen
Only looks like I will be getting hyrule warriors at ganestop. I might check out yu gi oh later on especially since it looks like its not the european version that I heard got a lot of content cut out and its only $20 so why not.
@rjejr
I wonder if you would keep your promise of getting Armillo if the discount made it stateside. Don't let the graphics deter you, it is a pretty fun game.
I am still hesitant to pay $60 for Hyrule Warriors. I may pick it later on, Smash Bros hits next week anyway.
I'm definitely saving money this week. Weak offerings, Nintendo.
So who's going to Nintendo World for that LE?
If i have any trouble finding a hard copy of Hyrule Warriors then i'll consider downloading it. Can't wait to play it!
That's some quality 3DS options today...
Here's hoping the last Smash Sale can keep up.
I wonder what the Fox part of the Smash sale is given that at current only Star Fox 64 3D is available on the current Nintendo consoles excluding Wii VC.
@sinalefa - Yeah, I'm leaning towards buying armillo on your say so despite the tremendously awful looking graphics, but now I'm thinking about DL HW and not getting armillo.
Anybody in the US know how the DL times work? eShop says midnight 9/26. I'll give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt and say that's Thursday night into Friday morning, but is it midnight in every time zone or just west coast Reggie time? I'll stay up until midnight and start the 2 hour DL, but I'm not staying up until 3AM and would just go shopping in the morning.
If anybody knows how I can pre-order it on eShop right now and have it DL over night that would solve all my problems. If I can pay now for DLC that isnt coming out until next May 2015 why can't I pay for a game that comes out at midnight tonight?
Would of liked some of that Game & Watch action.
Sword & Spldiers is criminally cheap
The Season Pass for Hyrule Warriors releases tomorrow too, right?
Now America it's your turn to support Hyrule Warriors!
@rjejr I'd guess the midnight launch would only be on the west coast as the servers update at the same time for NA and midnight at anywhere but the west coast would mean earlier than midnight on the west coast. As for pre-ordering Nintendo hasn't introduced that for games yet, only DLC.
@edgedino
Tropical Freeze was already confirmed to be part of this week's Smashing Sale during the initial announcement along with Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
So far it's Armillo and my physical copy of Hyrule Warriors tomorrow. Once they update the SSB sales, I may get something off that.
Smash sale 3DS -
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 19.99
Star Fox 64 3D - 29.99
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D - 19.99
Kirby's Dream Land 2 (VC) - 2.49
Donkey Kong (VC) - 3.49
Kirby's Dream Land - 2.49
PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventure - 11.99
Game & Watch: Donkey Kong Jr. - 1.49
I might consider PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventure for the 3DS but I'm not sure since I'm saving to get the HW season pass tomorrow.
@Webby-sama I may pick up those Kirby titles, thanks.
How much is Mario Golf? I'm not sure how much "€6.99 / £6.29" is.
Smash sale Wii U -
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - 29.99
Donkey Kong (VC) - 3.49
Donkey Kong Jr. (VC) - 3.49
Kirby's Dream Land 3 (VC) - 4.99
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror (VC) - 4.99
PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventure - 11.99
Pikmin 3 - 39.99
I am already downkloading the amazing mirror lol
@Webby-sama
Thanks for posting!
Pretty awesome week. Will probably get both DKCR3D and AC:NL.
I'm getting the physical Hyrule Warriors so nothing this week for me
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is already on sale for $29.99 in the US. I'm downloading now.
Wow thats ridiculous how cheap pikmin and dktf are! too bad Ive already purchased them..Can ACNew leaf be recommended to a AC noob..Is it worth tbe price .. ?
@rjejr they go by Eastern standard time when they say midnight, so if you are in central time, it would be 11pm, pacific would be 9pm.
@SuperMalleo: More like did Nintendo forget the 3DS this week, period? What a lousy week.
@sinalefa I'm with you. No need for fan service with Smash on the horizon. BTW, does anyone know if Smash will be downloadable for the 3DS, or is it too big? I know it's going to be a little gimped on the non-"New" systems (that STILL don't have release dates in the U.S.!), so I didn't know if they would make it an eShop download or not.
I would definitely prefer to have Smash as a download, because otherwise it may never come out of the cart slot, precluding me from ever playing any of my other cart games.
September 30th quarter end and this is all they are offering discounted on the eshop?????
@UltraLaserTen @Grumblevolcano - Well thanks you 2 for the conflicting information
Just got back from Target. They had HW in the case w/ one of those attached game cases in front. It had the HW $59.99 sticker on the shelf. I asked for help and somebody came and got me out the 1 copy for the locked up case. Scanned it and it showed tomorrows date so no go. I then walked over to the Skylanders section where they had a 3DS Trap Team box out. Brought that to the same cashier and she said "I didn't put that out" meaning she had put the 2 HW games in the case. It scanned Oct 5. So I wont be buying it at Target now. I appreciate them not breaking the street day, but you can't put i tout in the case w/ the price stickered on the shelf the day before and not sell it to someone at the cash register.
Eh, another boring week, eShop-wise. :c
Nothing for me. I'm getting Hyrule Warriors as phys and I only enjoyed Mario Golf until I beat it.
This week maybe i will download some Smash sale games.
Already have hyrule warriors bloody awesome and good fun.
No space left on my WiiU for retail games, so I'm getting Hyrule Warriors as a disk not a download.
@SuperMalleo
Your avatar fits that question perfectly.
Tropical Freeze for me. Will have to wait on Hyrule Warriors, after I get Bayonetta 2
Anybody else notice the file size on Bayonetta 2? 17.5 gigs on that puppy. That's making me seriously getting a physical copy. I have plenty of space on my hard drive, but that's like a day and a half of downloading for me.
Oh, and I got Armillo, Amazing Mirror and will be staying up later than I should to get Hyrule Warriors tonight. Good week for me.
Why would anyone actually download a retail title? There's no actual price difference.
Nothing doin on the 3ds front. Heh, without the sale at least.
@ZenTurtle - Since you asked... I may DL Hyrule Warriors tonight b/c I have $10 in eShop credit from DDP and Ill earn another $6 buying it, which Ill then use for Armillo and Sword and Soldiers. Plus its for my kids who arent allowed to put discs into and out of my Wii U so it will be there when they want it. But if the cashier at Target would have sold it to me when she scanned it I would have bought retail so normally I agree with you, disc is better.
Anybody know if the DL version of HW comes with a digital manual? @ThomasBW84
Oh nevermind, found it online PDF so it must be in the game.
Heres a link to the HW manual if anybody wants a heads up, its bottom right:
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Wii-U/Hyrule-Warriors-891849.html
WE NEED VC EVERY WEEK PEOPLE!!! C'MON LETS GET IT TOGETHER!!! GEEZ
Also, FFT: Curtain Call released its second batch of DLC today.
@earthboundlink
All 3DS retail games are digital. Do what you will
coool new Final Fantasy Theatrhythm Curtain Call DLC , cant stop playing im addicted to this game lol ^^ , gonna try hyrule warrior tomorrow with my friend , i hope its fun
@ZenTurtle Actually a few retail games aren't available through digital download. Tales of the Abyss, Kingdom Hearts, and the first Theatrhythm are a few examples.
Anyone who hasn't bought Swords & Soldiers really should now, $1.99 is quite a steal. I bought it at its original price and it was worth every dime. Can't wait for the sequel.
I picked up the Keep last night. That will probably be my last Eshop game for quite a while. Next game Fantasy Life. The Keep is awesome btw
finally a Wii U demo
Hyrule On the way from Amazon.. sitting waiting wishing, until then, some theatrhythm.
Just an update FYI to 1 of my earlier posts -
The NA eShop on Wii U now reads "Midnight tonight' for Hyrule Warriors, as opposed to "Mdinight 9/26" which it said earlier this morning. So I'm guessing that means where ever in the US you live at midnight tonight in your location it should be available to DL. Which is what t seems like I'll be doing.
Loving Hyrule warriors here in the UK, been kicking back with it all week and being a warriors fan and a zelda nut it's probably one of my favorite games on the system. So easy to lose a few hours to it
Looking forward to all the US readers getting their hands on it
@rjejr
They wouldn't be able to bypass it even if they went to the store manager. That's why most places take more care about it these days..
Hmmm, let's see....
Wii U
Wii U
Wii U
Wii U
Wii U
3DS
3DS
Seems legit.
@ThomasBW84 I think you made a slight mistake with the pricing...
"Mario Golf: Advance Tour (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29)"
Unless America's Currency has changed overnight.
Good selection this week though.
@rjejr Actually, it's just available at midnight EST. If you're on the west coast you get it at 9 PM .
You know me, I'm all about that Spin The Bottle: Bumpie's Party.
Ugh... C'mon Nintendo... Is the 3ds too weak to run SNES and GBA games? You would easily get a free $50 just from me... C'mon.
Zelda fans not buying Hyrule Warriors should be ashamed of themselves At least give the game a try, its really enjoyable!
@DiscoGentleman overall it is mainly the same, but there are some games that are only in Japan and there are a few games that are also missing from it. There are a few exclusive eShop titles, but I haven't looked into very many of them. Also there is Nintendo Game Seminar 2013 which has 4 free games which I found fairly fun. As for exclusive Wii U games, there is Yakuza 1&2(haven't tried yet, but there is a demo), Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U version and Puyopuyo Tetris.
Also most games are more expensive (partly due to the tax recently increasing to 10%), Fatal Frame V is about $88...
Another week of nothing for 3DS owners.
Will the season pass be available in America tomorrow along with the game in America?
I was planning on nothing too however since i only played 2 yu gi oh games (forbidden memories, and dual academy) I decided to get the new one. so far its ok, haven't found the card shop yet or the passwords for cards.
@ktribal what songs/characters are included in the 2nd batch?
Nothing.
@DiscoGentleman
Think about all of the Japanese Wii games you could play. Fatal Frame, Disaster: Day of Crisis, etc. And Dragon Quest X.............
WHAT. THE. HELL.
There's practically nothing for 3DS!!!
I'll probably get Kirby 1 or 2 since I only have a few dollars left on my eShop account. I'm guessing but 2 is better than 1?
@TeeJay
Considering the past few years have been:
3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,coughWiiUcough,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS,3DS...3DS...I think it's plenty legit, especially considering all the Wii U counterparts of 3DS games are all immensely better.
@IceClimbers - Midnight it is. Would be really cool if I could wake up tomorrow to an installed game. 8GB might take almost as long to install as DL.
@SetupDisk - Yeah, thats why I just walked away w/o saying a word. Put me in a REALLY bad mood though for about an hour, it would have been great to surprise my kid with it today. Which is why Ill be trying to DL the 8GB at midnight tonight even though I would prefer disc.
@DiscoGentleman If i were you I'd look and see if there were other games as well that you want to play so that you get your money's worth. I'm buying one this holiday season since I love the Taiko games...and for fatal frame, but since I don't know what games you like to play I'd suggest you make a list first. I don't think you can play DQX without being on a JPN ip...I remember reading something about port blocking on the Squeenix servers.
@eleccross Yep season pass is up. I bought it and I haven't even gotten the game yet. UPS is too slow!
