Rainbow Road from Super Mario 64 is a track steeped in many people's nostalgia banks, and Mario Kart 8 recreated that experience in HD for the first time earlier this year. Now, a clever modder who goes by the name of 'N64AC' has managed to get the original track working on an upcoming realistic racing simulator coming out for PC called Assetto Corsa.
The bold, obnoxious colours contrast beautifully against the gritty, menacing roar of the formula 1 car used to navigate its many twists, turns and other features such a vehicle is not designed to tackle. The initial drop reportedly destroys the suspension of most of the cars that don't drive down it carefully enough.
Future developments include a mini-map and of course the course's wonderful theme music.
Be sure to check out the video below to see the track in action. Does this make you yearn for the classic N64 experience, or are you happy with the updated version in Mario Kart 8? Let us know in the comments section!

Mario Kart 8's version of the N64 Rainbow Road should have been a three-lapper, not a point to point, I reckon. The 'classic' N64 experience was six minutes of hell xD
Does the shortcut work?
I really like the updated Wii U version of N64 Rainbow Road, even if it's not technically a three-lapper.
@OmegaStar - Agreed. It does look a lot like Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road though.
The game Road Redemption currently in development also has the Rainbow Road as its last level on the current 0.8 release.
This one is also coming to WiiU and I totally recommend it! So much fun can barely be described.
That car looks like it has Rothmans Racing livery.
Thats going back over 20 years ago in F1 when cigarette ads were papered over everything.
Warning: Children are watching.

ON TOPIC:
With such a capable engine they could have at least added the transparency, now it just looks off to me...
@yoko19191 Ah... my bad. Busy day, missed that part. Smileys to point out the sarcasm would have helped, though...
@mandlecreed I'm with you there man!! What a waste having it all shiny and good looking if they're gonna trim the laps down. It's not even THAT long .....is it!?!
I find it funny - so many people biased against Nintendo and its "kiddy" games, and yet so many among them recreate Nintendo environments on other consoles and in the mature games they boast.
@AlexSora89
I was just thinking the same thing.... just how the majority of the gaming community ridicules Nintendo and "wants them to die" but yet, so many people go and do modes to get Nintendo stuff in their games and a lot of their influences are from Nintendo.
No F1 banana peels no care.
Needs the music.
@OmegaStar
Technically… there is a rainbow road in one of the final levels, correct? But I saw the mistake as soon as I started the article, the Rainbow Road is from Mario Kart 64
rainbow Road from Super Mario 64 is a track steeped in many people's nostalgia banks. uhh there isnt a rainbow road in super mario 64
Rainbow Road was my favorite level in Super Mario 64! I was there, and so was Luigi. L is real!
Isn't this a clear copyright violation? Where's Nintendo's legal team?
Bro, do you even shift?
...sorry.
