With Mario Kart 8 hitting the streets later this month, there has never been a better time to take the plunge and buy a Wii U console. Of course Nintendo are handily bundled together their Triple-A kart racer with the system, but where is the best place to buy it from?
We'd recommend that you consider slapping in a preorder at Tesco Direct if you live in the UK. At only £219 this is already terrific value for Mario Kart 8 and a Premium Wii U console — but it gets even better.
Using the code TDX-JGCV in the checkout will save you an extra £20, making the grand total only £199. This offer ends on Monday 5th May, so don't wait too long.
Also don't forget the Mario Kart 8 Club Nintendo promotion, which will gain you with a free download of one of these stellar titles:
- Nintendo Land
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- Game & Wario
- Pikmin 3
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
- Sonic Lost World
- Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
- Wii Party U
- The Wonderful 101
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

Hopefully that'll be enough, though I have known of several goal-post movers who will then say £180 max, £150 max, £100 max, etc, etc.
The most important thing I believe is to advertise the Free Game Offer heavily and ensure any buyers are subsequently informed of other titles currently out or in development.
2 games a controller a steering wheel and the system for that price??? Come on people, if that doesn't convince you you just don't care!
If Wii U sales don't go up substantially in May and June...
I remember posting during those GC offers awhile back - "don't do it, an MK8 bundle is coming, maybe a price drop also" - well here it is. I've been a fairly disgruntled Wii U owner since last Aug, but if you aren't interested in buying a Wii U now then you probably aren't realy interested at all.
E3 is 2 weeks after this, and Nintneod should have even more reasons to buy 1, so I'ld understand waiting a couple of weeks. But after that it' snow or never.
Do yourself a favour and buy this Bundle instead;

The add on a Mario Kart 8 Preorder from Tesco for £35.
What do you get for your additional £35? Well 3 great local multiplayer games as well as 2 Wii Motion Plus Controllers, Download New Super Mario Bros. U as your free game (as this will fit on the Wii U basic system memory with enough room to patch all the other games you're getting) and get enough content to keep the whole family entertained while christmas for only £35 more
@adderrson And yet another great reason to own this system! Come on people you know you want to!
If Nintendo doesn't ship some serious numbers on both the game and the system then it might be game over. I really hope that MK8 will get a lot of press coverage and great review scores for that damn Metacritic to go sky-high and get attention of all the undecided folks. I really want Wii U to succeed and to get more great games. I own Wii U since launch and already played some great titles on it, I'm very happy with the console and don'y want to see it go away. The only way we can shape the industry is to vote with our wallets what games should be made.
@rjejr The deal is not all that much better than just getting the premium with Nintendo Land and the game. (The Nintendo Land one is £180 - Mario Kart is £35 which will more than likely go down to about £30 before release.)
So makes no difference presuming getting Nintendo Land for £10 or £15 is something you would do anyway.
THAT'S more like it!!
OK
If I didn't buy it at launch I'd be all over this one.
What is the definition of AAA anyway ?
90+ on Metacritic / Cost Loads and Sold loads ? (Is that what the 3 A's are supposed to be for ?)
@unrandomsam - "The deal is not all that much better than just getting the premium with Nintendo Land and the game."
Price wise they may be similar, but come on, you cant compare NL to MK8.
I guess my thinking is along the lines of people buy a Nintendo home console for Zelda, Mario, Kart and SSB. (handhelds for Pokemon) MK8 is in the box, SSB is out sometime w/in the next 11 months, Zelda will be announced at E3, WW HD is out and can be had for free w/ MK8, Mario already has a 2D and 3D game so he may not get another platformer until Unity hardware, though Sluggers, Strikers and Paper are all possible. For people who were waiting I see this as the time to buy. People who are only interested in Just Dance can wait until they stop making Wii versions.
I wish I could get this deal, but I'm in America, and Nintendo has region-locking.
£200.00 = $338.00 USD. Still not as cheap as in the U.S.A.
@Ryno Need to take off 20% for VAT. But the US bundle has a wiimote and wheel with it as well by the looks of it. Comparing it should be £160.
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!!!
very fair price considering the extra free game.
Top price and great deal... About time Nintendo!!! Quite a few of my mates will be purchasing this in the UK.
@Ryno UK though gets 10 options to pick from for their Mario Kart deal while the US has 4.
If you don't get the Wii U this year but still stay on the site....
Shame on you.
Yes I love Mario Kart. Yes it is a great offer. No I'm not going to buy. At the end of the day it comes down to money and I don't have the disposable income to spend £200 on a games system. No next gen for me yet.
I wonder if NA will get something like this.
@GamerOZO >implying everyone here has the resources/money to get a wii U
@Spoony_Tech The Premium MK8 bundle in Europe does not come with a Wii remote plus or Wii Wheel.
@adderrson but that's an 8GB model without a sensor bar.
My Wii sensor bar is busted and i'm going to want to install many games I think MK8 and MH3U will give me at least 200 hours of gameplay
Pre-ordered, aw yeah. About time I got in with the U crowd.
Hey guys,
On the Tesco site it says:
Wireless Connectivity - No
Wireless Network Adapter - No
Controller Included - None
Surely this is not true, right?. I was about to pre-order then noticed that. Could someone confirm this is not true please .
Thank you!.
@Captain-Falcon Good quality wireless sensor bars are convenient. (If only because you only need one for as many Wii's / Wii U's as you want).
If you want to install many games you will need a drive eventually anyway so it is not saving any money (The difference is a drop in the ocean).
@Ryno Fair point, but the economy here in the UK is crappy, for example, we pay £40 for those 3DS titles that were reduced to $30 in the US. And the OUYA was $99 in the US and still £99 in the UK. Our price of living just sucks
Still, That is £40 less that the TLOZWW bundle on amazon, and this one comes with Mario Kart and another game, TLOZ if you want it
@unrandomansam I guess i've allways been against the white WiiU anyhow, But 32GB will keep me for a bit (some indies and such). Plus £40 is enough to get 2 Pro controllers aswell, to play that couch multiplayer. In reference to the sensor bar thing, im getting rid of my Wii anyway so the extra sensor bar is a bonus
I guess it's just preference.
@Grimyz i'm sure it;s wrong, if you look at the dimensions it say 1mm,1mm,1mm and it says it weighs one gram, obviously a guy on the tech team had a cosy nap or something
@Captain-Falcon Haha I think so too mate . I'll go ahead and order it then . Thanks mate!
I've been waiting and waiting.....and the wait is over. Next month, I get a Wii U. Woo-hoo!
Yep, this is the bundle i am pre-ordering. A bargain i cannot miss and the two top titles will keep me busy enough not to need to buy another title for a while. Itsmy 30th birthday in 3 weeks. I deserve to treat myself.
@KevTastic84 What free game you picking buddy?
@Grimyz the retro head in me says NSMBU . But intrigued by Wonderful 101 or getting Zelda. Got myself the rest of May to decide i guess.
@KevTastic84 Very true. I'm 50/50 between zelda and Monster Hunter 3, I got MH on the 3DS but doesn't have online play so maybe, but as you said we have all of may to decide .
@Grimyz We'll all be busy playing MK8 online amongst each other anyway lol
@KevTastic84 Haha very true, see you on the track buddy .
Just given in everybody. £199.00 was too good to resist. Expected delivery May 31st. But now i must spend this month being a hermit and staying in and not spending.
Nice
Exactly, the lowest I saw it before reading this was £249.99 so as you said £199.99 is too good to miss . Yeah I noticed it said expected 31st, hopefully we get it on release but if it's only one extra day then it isn't too bad.
@Grimyz I thought you could use a Wii U with just an app (And usb to ethernet) to allow the 3DS version to be online if you wanted.

One member of the party needs the WIi U version that is all.
Oh wow I did not know about that, thank you! . I might still get it for the wii u just for the bigger screen, not sure yet though .
Wow....Europe is getting almost 3 times more games for this promotion than America is. 'Ha...ha...ha...?' That's so weird but whatever. Bring on the Mario Kart 8 goodness!
@KevTastic84
Hey Me 2, going 30 in just few weeks
I already got my Wii U, right after I saw MK8 videos on YouTube, I knew they would give an awesome bundle but I couldn't wait, anyways loving the free game download, looking forward to WW HD + MK8
I am giving serious thought towards getting the Australian equivalent bundle. As for the bonus game, I'm having trouble deciding between New Super Mario Bros. U and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.
I will consider on buying it now.
@KevTastic84 Congrats mate, on may 30th though, it might as well be everyones birthday
@koelboel Cheers Man. Turning 30 is daunting. But MK8 will bring out my youth
This is the first time the Wii U pricing and value proposition has felt like a genuinely good offer that's appropriate to the system imo.
You get the console, plus a game, plus an extra controller and wheel attachment, plus an extra free downloadable game if you register with Club Nintendo, as well as a bonus Mario/Luigi hat too in Europe I think, and all for £199.99.
That's a pretty sweet offer.
I'm still not getting one because unfortunately I don't like that I still can't do even the most basic of entertainment things on the system like play DVDs or MP4s/AVIs etc (along with a few other frustrating issues like the whole accounts and store related stuff etc) and I simply need to get more from a console than just gaming these days to make it worth the money, let's not argue about this shall we, but it's a great offer for people after a primarily gaming-centric system who have enough money to buy a Wii U plus whatever other seperate entertainment systems and services they want.
Edit: Oh wait...I put 2 and 2 together and got 5 there*. It appears the UK bundle is just the console with the game at a recommended price of £249.99 as per your usual bundles (although a few places have obviously lowered the price slightly), along with the free game if you register. Not nearly as good as I thought.
If it were the same bundle as the US version for £199.99 I think that would have been so much nearer the right value proposition: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/04/north_american_wii_u_mario_kart_8_deluxe_set_bundle_races_into_view
Still not quite there yet, Nintendo.
*This is what confused me: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/04/amazon_comes_in_low_with_mario_kart_8_wii_u_bundle_price_awesome_gamepad_skins_on_the_way
Stop being in Sega mode and buy Nintendo stuff already Europe!
Couldn't let this deal pass.
Ordered my bundle last night!
@Hank_Scorpio Nice one mate!. Shame you wasn't in time for the £20 off but even without it it's a fantastic deal!. Any idea what game you're going to choose from with the download code? .
Cheers!
Think I just squeaked in with the deal, used the code and am paying £199. Not sure yet, either Pikmin or WW:HD.
Fantastic offer, been on the fence for a while now but had to be done.
Saving up for this bundle at the moment!
Oh yes! But oh no!! Which game do I get?! That is the question..
@King_Johobo I'm in the same situation mate, between Monster Hunter, Zelda or Pikman! D:
@Grimyz that's the exact same choices I've picked though I think I want physical copy of Zelda so that's one down haha
@King_Johobo Haha I'm not too bothered about physical copies but of course it saves space but I think I'll end up picking Monster Hunter .
@Grimyz haha yeah I love physical copies...i'm a bit weird like that lol Monster Hunter sounds like the way to go. Never played one but looks awesome
@King_Johobo I have the game but for the 3DS, amazing game but the best advice I could give for someone new to the MH series is pick up everything, it all has its uses . At least getting it for the wii u you get to play it on a much bigger screen! . 20 days to go
