Here are the downloadable delights winging their way to North America this week:
Wii U eShop
Spin the Bottle (KnapNok Games, $8.99) — This title's unique pricing scheme kicks off this week with the arrival of additional minigames. Existing owners will receive a free update, yet those buying for the first time will pay slightly more than the original launch price. If you're looking for off-the-wall multiplayer fun this may be the game for you, as our Spin the Bottle review explains.
Wii U Virtual Console
Super C (Konami, $4.99) — This sometimes forgotten NES sequel makes another appearance after its arrival on the 3DS Virtual Console last year, so run and gun fans can enjoy the title on their latest home console. lt follows on nicely from the original and offers simple, intense shooting action — check out our 3DS Virtual Console Super C review for the full lowdown.
3DS eShop
Spot the Differences! (Bigben Interactive, $9.99) — A series previously published by Sanuk Games on WiiWare and as an updated version on Wii U, this appears to be a 3DS iteration of the single-player original. We'll take a close look in our review.
AeternoBlade (Corecell Technology, $14.99) — Available from 18th February. At Awelsia region, vengeful Freyja travelled with unknown weapon AeternoBlade to revenge Beladim, the Lord of Mist who had destroyed her village, Ridgerode, and killed all her tribes. This action title came through crowdfunding before landing on the eShop; watch out for our upcoming review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
For a limited time, select Rising Star titles are on sale in the 3DS eShop - including games like Beyblade Evolution, Jewel Master: Cradle of Rome 2, and Girls' Fashion Shoot. The offer is available starting today and will run until 13th March.

Hopefully more eShop games will be revealed in the Nintendo Direct today!
I guess today's Nintendo Direct won't be coming with incredible virtual console bomb shells.
Another lackluster week
I really want today's Direct to be Reggie and Iwata trolling.
"Lolz we just wanted to see your reactions to this crappy download list, so here's Mario 3. You're welcome."
Hoping this is light because they're saving something as a surprise for the ND.... otherwise nothing for me this week.
Why do they keep giving us contras sequels but not the original?!?!?
Nothing really catches my interest this week. Just Tropical Freeze to look forward to so far.
Not expecting much from the NDirect either, except official release dates for 3 or 4 titles they've already shown footage of.
Why are they waiting till Tuesday to release AeternoBlade it's an eshop game not a retail game right?
Wait Aterno Blade is coming out? Way to sneak up on me! Is it download only?
Never played Super C, and I listened to @rjejr and I got Bumpie's Party a couple of days ago, since today they would increase the price. So I will be updating my copy.
AeternoBlade looks interesting at the very least! Reminds me of the lastest Castlevania on the system.
Super Contra is a insta buy for me. Had this back in the NES days. My father and I played the heck out of this game. This would be awesome if it had local co-op.
I might get AeternoBlade, but I want to know the price first.
@sinalefa - I havne't "played" it yet, - practiced w/ my son for an hour - maybe later as everybody is home having a snow day. Again. The updated games looked better to me. My kids are looking forward to animal charades. And I want it on the tv screen where we can all see it, so we've been waiting.
Off topic - Newegg is giving a $5 GC w/ a DKCTF pre-order. No tax, free shipping. Tax matters to me in NY where Amazon collects it.
Well that was underwhelming.... At least I managed to snag Super Mario RPG from Club Nintendo this week.
I guess there is still the chance for a "available at the end of this Direct" announcement later today. But I am not holding my breath.
I will just keep on playing Unepic......
I was hoping for that Dr. Mario/ Dr. Luigi deal they're having in Europe right now.
Hoping a release was held for Nintendo Direct, cause that list is bad.
@rjejr
I haven't either. I don't think my brother would like it, but it was irresistible at that price. Got Giana Sisters as well, thus completing my Super Indie Connection Sale Collection.
Considering I just splurged with Etrian Odyssey IV, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner Soul Hackers, and Code of Princess, I won't be getting anything this week. Though I do have some interest in Super C.
Well... at least I'll be getting the new DKC this month.
For now, nothing, but let's see what Ninty has up their sleeves later in today's Nintendo Direct.
I heard The Price Is Right's 'fail horns' when I reached the bottom of this list.
I guess it's better that they put out some lesser VC games on a list so we don't all cry when they have no VC announcements in the ND!
I am still going to cry and buy something on Steam out of spite for not being able to upgrade all my VC games.
Hopefully there are more announced in the direct today
@therick112 Racism in the original I think and relation to the Iran-Contra affair. They changed the sprites to red for the enemies in the mobile remake.
It's so frustrating because it just seems like the same list. Super C was released on the 3DS a few weeks ago, and now it's released again on the Wii U. Ninja Gaiden was released on the 3DS in December, and Wii U last week. I tire of the double dipping when there is a huge back catalog of great games. I have no problem with Super C and Ninja Gaiden - both were great back in the day, but release them on both systems at the same time.
sigh ....... what a let down........ That's ok, I have a MASSIVE back log right now, so then again...... GREAT WEEK!!!
Let's hope the Nintendo Direct today is good, because this software drought on the eshop is putting a bad taste in my mouth.
Whoa, Reggie not all at once, save something for later
Yeesh! I know we got Bravely Default last week, and Link to the Past the week prior, but do you really want to break that consistency, NoA?!
Seriously I am growing tiresome of these Contra and Konami titles for virtual console. It's all I recall from 1 virtual console a week (sometimes 2 when a virtual console game is released on both systems in one week). At this rate, very little titles will be released on the eshop before the big N releases a next generation system. The days of 3-4 virtual console games released on Wii a week, I miss. I was always excited to see what they were; not this drought.
-_- sigh..it's a good thing bravely default is owning my life. I haven't touched my wiiu at all . And won't til Dk..
Nintendo DIrect today. Surprise eShop title announcement maybe?
Wow. So much more money in my wallet these days. Thanks Nintendo!
@unrandomsam Its been a long time so I can't comment on the racism aspect...but the excuse of the Iran Contra is absurd for so many reasons. That reason hasn't stopped them from releasing Contra 3 on SNES or Contra 4 on DS or Contra ReBirth on WiiWare. Not to mention this game is not called "Contra" in Europe and they haven't seen the game over there either. Konami is definitely not afraid of the title it has to be something else...
@TwoTheNines Ha!
Give us Super Mario All-Stars in the 3ds eshop!
Do you ever wonder if Nintendo is intentionally trying to fail? I would love to see the faked enthusiasm that must exist in their meetings. Bring us the heads of the virtual console team! Then fire them.
Dear Nintendo, withholding VC games from the 3DS won't make us buy a Wii U.--if that's one of your strategies. If you're holding back games to piss us off--WINNING!
Ninty hard at work on making the VC seem like giant slap in the fans of nostalgia ridden fans ... yet again. No wonder people in management tend to make big bucks ... you have to be able to come up with these "strategies", something - simply put - common sense can't accomplish. You go guys, you go!
Hey, at least Super C is a great (albeit really hard) game. Nintendo could've given us Donkey Kong Jr. Math or something.
Something has to be coming tonight in the Direct.
Also, how can a week with Super C be a "crap week" guys? C'mon.
@therick112 I dunno. In the mobile version all the enemy sprites are red. (It is otherwise the same game). I think it is the content and the title. (The later ones involve aliens that couldn't really be associated with real life events). The MSX version was released in Japan. They must have a reason as it is better known than e.g Super C.
@sinalefa - You bought all of them? Hope you have the Deluxe Wii U. I just checked and I need 6 points, so I need to spend 60 cents to get $5. Maybe they'll have another Pikmin 3 DLC this afternoon.
Aeterno Blade for me.
You can buy Spot the Differences magazines for $3.99 why would I pay more?
I already have Super C on Wii,but don't feel like buying it again right now. If Nintendo doesn't have a makeover on the eshop this year,then I donno... How they treat the eshop is a complete joke.
@Luigifan141
I'd be happy just to not see the same stuff they have been showing for the last year. Please something new..for the Wii U, not the 3DS...
What? Nintendo Direct today? What time?
@rjejr
I already had the other three, when they were discounted long ago. I did pay full price for Mighty Switch Force.
I do have a deluxe set, but I need to check to see how many points I need for another $5.
Weak Week, seems like some suorise eshop launch's.
I guess Europe isn't only one with dreadful weeks...
Wow...this week is terrible!
It's hard for Super C to be "forgotten" when Contra has yet to be re-released THREE times like the sequel has.
A shame no one in the gaming industry will ask them WHY they refuse to release a classic, though.
@Blue_Yoshi
2PM PT/5PM ET. will cover wii u and 3ds games in spring. it'll be 41 minutes long.
I hope Contra fans will at least make a noise on Miiverse. Konami needs to stop ignoring one of their best and most important games.
Right, Left, Down, Up, A, B, Start!!!
Why Nintendo and Konami are not releasing the original Contra before the sequel is beyond me.
I really hope Shantae releases soon.
Another lame week for virtual console.It seems we either get a game no one wanted "mighty bomb jack" or we get something that has already released on 3ds or wii u.Releasing the same vc games on both systems is a terrible idea,as someone who own's both systems I would Appriciate a little variety.
@therick112 You could get Contra 4 if you have a DS. You can unlock the first two Contra games on it!
Eh, well I'm still playing Bravely Default anyway, but another week of coal in our stockings is never good.
This is a load of poo already. Spot the difference? Seriously? How about spot my rude gesture? L*ve you, Nintendo!
@KnightRider666 The big n can make it difficult to be patient.I feel your pain!
i checked the e-shop and the only retail games on sale are soul hackers for 19.99, code of princess for 19.99 and EO IV for 19.99 until february 17th. not any rising star games for sale
@KnightRider666
keep it up and ill have nintendo replace all your vc games with muliple copies of urban champion. everyone likes a champion.
try me.
Would love to see the ORIGINAL CONTRA, what's been up with that?
Did Bumpies Party not rise in price?
It started at $8.99, no?
Liked the AeternoBlade demo well enough but I'm not sure it's a 15 dollar game. Will wait for sale/price drop. If I didn't have Bravely Default I'd wonder if there will ever be a new release worth grabbing new.
$15 seems a bit steep for AternoBlade. That makes it the most expensive digital only game on the service that never started out as a retail game.
I bet that this Nintendo Direct would mainly focused on the MK8, KTD, DKTF, YNI, and the rest will be about SMB3 finally revealing the date on May 31, 2014... or probably just show another trailer and say that SMB3 will be coming later 2014 or 2015.
Ugh, horrible week. Super Mario Bros. 3 will most likely be in today's Direct.
anybody else having this problem?
i have super C in my wii mode (transffered from wii) but when i log in to eshop it is not showing a discount
@SkywardCrowbar
Nice choices! I've been building my Atlus collection as well. Those games kick the proverbial donkery.
@meltendo
Hm?
Super C is already in the 3DS eShop.
I've had it for months. It even has co-op, if you want to make the game harder.
@unrandomsam
Not racism, just a desire to distance themselves from a POLITICAL fiasco.
Politics =/= race.
-_-
Personally, I'll be snagging Aeternoblade... if anything else worthwhile comes out next week.
Hell, it's just a few more days past its release.
Super C again? Why not the original.
shrugs Oh well guess I will just have to use my NES to play Contra.
@ogo79: That's saying a lot from somebody who can't even spell "Nintendo". Go troll someplace else.
Aeternoblade came out this week? I guess I have something to purchase after all.
The Guild games are also on offer for $2.99 each. I might grab Crimson Shroud or Liberation Maiden.
There are good sells but I'm saving for moon and why didn't they show iron fall ?
I tried the AeternoBlade demo, and while it has some pretty good gameplay, I wasn't overall very impressed with it. Nothing for me this week.
Rayman Legends had a price cut. It was 59.99 and now it's 39.99. It doesn't mention SALE anywhere so it seems it's a permanent cut.
May be getting AeternoBlade sometime, hopefully when it goes on sale as the $15 asking price feels kinda so-so to me.
@KnightRider666
take a joke, relax, they are video games man. at least you said you love nintendo. yer cool with me
Ugh these Thursdays aint what they used to be, i remember how awesome it used to be during the Wii's hayday
Where is SMB3; WTF Nintendo. I am patience, but come on, this is ludicrous and embarrassing. BTW, FF1 NES is nowhere to be seen. I have lost faith in this world.
@TheGZeus So why did they change the sprites to red from black ? (In Contra : Evolution). Maybe they are just playing it safe (Don't want even the slightest possibility of having their HQ bombed).
I agree with meltendo. Having lost interest in my 3ds recently due to lackluster VC releases, my desire to get a WiiU has all but evaporated. I can't even use my enormous amount of play coins on Wii VC titles anymore, cuz it's all WiiU now. Not being able to spend play coins further reduces my desire to buy new Nintendo products. It's riduculous, cuz Nintendo's losing so much money and support because of their current business strategy.
@ogo79: Dude whatever. I didn't say I loved Nintendo, I originally said F you Nintendo; but Nintendolife censored it.
@sdcazares1980 @Tasuki @Xcape_DuCkMAN_X @therick112 One might say that whoever is responsible for porting the original really feel asleep on the job...
@KnightRider666
Well you obviously do love Nintendo though because you are spending your time on a site dedicated to covering Nintendo-related news...
-Happy gaming (^_^)
@SMEXIZELDAMAN: I like Nintendo's products, but I'm not pleased with their decisions as of late. -Happy gaming (^_^)? What are you one Barbiegurl777's mindless followers or something?
