Sound Rangers: Rhythm & Battle! is an iOS title from Capcom which combines RPG elements with music-based combat — and it showcases a selection of famous characters from Capcom's history.
Interestingly, Capcom has just revealed via Twitter that a new character is coming to the game — and the silhouette looks a lot like Aero from the cancelled 3DS title Mega Man Legends 3.
Check out the image below, and then compare it to the concept art for Mega Man Legends 3 directly below that:
Aero's design was voted for by fans when Mega Man Legends 3 was still in development, and her final form was created by Shinsuke Komaki and Tokiko Nakashima.

Capcom being Capcom. After giving us Xover on the 25th anniversary of Megaman nothing they do surprises me anymore.
For the life of me I don't understand the decisions these companies make. Just give us what we want. A new Mega Man, instead they us a freakin' board game. Holy crap their stupid.
Capcom don't seem to have figured out that mobile ANYTHING is an insult to the Mega Man fan base.
After what they did with opening a new Mobile studio, I don't know what to think about Capcom but I still respect them.
I guess its good that they are using assets which would otherwise never be used, but this does feel like a giant middle finger to the people who supported Legends 3, and Mega Man as a whole.
I guess they best thing about it being an iOS game is that they can't make ludicrously insane sales predictions and then blame the consumers when it fails to meet it.
...capcom...
All righty, then!
A... a rhythm game?! You're sacrificing a Legends character for THIS?! Oh, gimme a break! There's literally no reason for this, not even profit! Geez...
I have no issue with them recycling assets and characters and whatnot from cancelled games. There's no negative and it's not even the first time Capcom have done this (Fun Fact: Devil May Cry was originally Resident Evil 4 until they scrapped it all for being too action. They took what was built and made Devil May Cry)
The game was cancelled. Aero is not a Megaman character anymore. Megaman fans will really look for any pitiful excuse to take a jab at Capcom, even if the thing they're doing is not a bad thing.
If I hadn't grown up in the '90s it'd be tough to believe that Capcom was once one of the best developers/publishers out there. The stupidity flowing through that company these days is beyond belief.
It's not stupidity, Mr. Gamer83. It's recycling.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the first Devil May Cry was made mostly out of scraps from the original Resident Evil 4 before they scrapped it and made the RE4 we all know, with Leon and Spanish not-zombies.
And none were in the video.
@TheStubbsMan The difference being that they actually made a Resident Evil 4.
Personally I can't avoid to doubt they are really using that specific character. I would bet on a restyle of Sonia Strumm, I immediatly thought about her when I saw the silhouette ^o^ Then again Aero and Sonia look much alike being both modern Megaman characters >_>;
@TheStubbsMan
Sorry to say, but your example is lacking a crucial detail ^^;
True enough there are a lot of peculiar and interesting stories behind games' development, like the one you mentioned, but Megaman Legends 3 followed a specific path in development that we can't ignore.
The development of ML3 was done "pubblicaly" and not only fans were allowed to see, know and start to love the game's characters and mechanics, but Capcom even took many inputs from the future players, we could almost say it was a game co-developped by capcom and its players.
As example of that the article even mention that were the fans who voted and therefore helped capcom define Aero's final design.
That's why it still hurt so much the failure of the ML3 project and why Capcom should ponder well how recicling the materials from that specific game.
I'm sure no fan would complain to see Aero reused for a capcom game, be it a megaman game or something else... ack, that girl even look ready to set for her own game! But just using her for what sound like a cameo would be definitly more a poking where it still hurts to those players, who closely followed ML3 development, than doing them a kind fanservice.
Huh....
Epic Fail Capcom.
@hngdmn It's not a difference, because the Resi 4 we got was completely different to what it was when it was Devil May Cry.
@BakaKnight Really? you get mad at cameos? That's not getting the middle finger thrown at you, that's just looking for ANY reason to hate Capcom now.
This isn't a bad thing. The second MML3 got cancelled, she stopped being a Megaman character. They can use her in whatever they want now.
@Anclation How so? Even if she weren't in the new game, that doesn't give Mega Man Legends 3 a better chance at release.
I've been holding out for them to make a turn-around, but I think by this point Capcom just needs to be put out of its misery.
@WingedSnagret how exactly should they do that? I'd honestly like them to sell their IPs off to Nintendo in the case that they really planned on... I don't know... Putting themselves out of their miseries. Not all their IPs, of course not not all of them would really work out well on Nintendo's favour, but some IPs that already have a large enough Nintendo fan base would really prosper in this case: like Okami, Megaman, Ace Attorney and the other more iconic ones, I wouldn't mind RE but I'm not sure Nintendo would be the one to save that Franchise, and if Bayonnetta does great on the WiiU even DMC would be a possibility. This is just a pipe dream though. What would happen in this situation is unclear, Capcom might even end up selling all their IPs off to Sony instead. I don't know about Microsoft.
As much of a tease as it is...I'd like to see the character used sonmewhere.
@TheStubbsMan
Never said I got mad at this news or that this is a good reason for hate capcom; quite the opposite, they still makes games I love, like the Ace Attorney serie, and therefore they have my support and cheer ^^
Plus, let's face it, the ML3 project was a failure and it's a shame how it ended, but it was a brave and interesting try what Capcom did there; it's rare if not even unique to see such a big developper involving the whole players' community in making the next installment of an important serie and would be great to see something similar happen again one day (with a better epilogue for the project of course >.>; ).
Getting back on topic, I only think that Capcom should choose carefully how to use Aero in future. Players were there in her making and probably she already have a little fanbase, she is definitely an important scrapped idea that would be a shame to waste, but also risky to use.
Of course this is just my opinion, at the end of the day Capcom can use its characters as it like and even prove I'm wrong with an excellent "recicle" of Aero in this game (always IF that shadow is indeed Aero, let's not forget this is a rumour).
GO GO RHYTHM RANGERS!
Its nice to see that some aspects of MML3 will live on. I honestly don't know why people are getting upset at this it's not unusual for a company to take stuff from a cancelled game and recycle it into a new game.
shakes his head in disgust and turns back to Mighty No. 9
@BakaKnight
We are already seeing this with Mighty Number 9. So maybe the community input thing was an Inafune idea after all. Hence Capcom ditching it in the end.
Stopped caring after i read iOS game...
After what I read and see, I can say that the Megaman fan base at a whole, is one of the worst fanbases I've seen.
I've been reading this book about a woman, who completely ignores her past experiences and focused too much on the current result of things, and it ruined her life. This is basically what the Megaman fanbase is.
They have over 30 great games to chose from, but instead they focus on what hasn't happened for the past 3 years. And it can get idiotic. "Screw Capcom for not adding another masterpiece in my collection"
And then there are tne IOS haters. No more ignorant than a console fanboy. Thinking that IOS doesn't have good games, and its iRonic as they own a Wii U, and white knignt the same criticism. As if there aren't amazing experiences on my iPad.
Not that I would buy this, but doesn't Lord Raptor from Darkstalkers seem like a shoe in for this game?
@Kyloctopus I don't think you can apply what you read about that woman here. It's not the fact that they cancelled one game, it's the fact that they cancelled ALL games, blamed the Legends game failure on fans and then continued to spit on the face of fandom by either ignoring or just making fun of the franchise as you can clearly see with the horror that is Xover.
I don't know if you can see this but this franchise is as big and beloved as the Mario or Zelda one, is one of the oldest vg franchises and watching Capcom poopoodoodiecacapoopledoople on it is really sad to fans.
Please watch the profanity — TBD
Seems like an insult to Megaman Legends 3 supporters. Hopefully it's a hint the game is coming Baaack?... Eh
@Kyloctopus
Right now, the Megaman fan base are working with Keiji Inafune to give us the ideal successor to Megaman.
If Capcom added Aero and gave her a 'Megaman' icon tag of some kind, that would be a minor anti-snub. In Street Fighter X All Capcom, the Christmas promotion was based round special versions of Lilith and Roll, recognising two franchises that Capcom have got slaughtered online for their callousness over.
@Retro_on_theGo
Inafune-san won't bring it back, unless Capcom sold the asset libraries to the Mighty No. 9 team. Capcom already said it was 'rubbish', as was the anniversary game they had planned.
That's why they made XOver... Because apparently we didn't want the other one.
@RantingThespian: I agree. Just wow.
I sincerely hope that capcom moves exclusively to ios so that when that market inevitably crashes, they gone down too... And then sell mega man to nintendo.
Still not supporting this company in any way, shape or form.
@TwilightV: Same here. When they put out a product worthy of my support, maybe I'll consider it, but this? Give me a break.
What we would consider good games do not make enough of a profit. The market dictates either cheap .99 iOS titles that took < 3 months to make, or a AAA title that MUST sell millions of copies.
The smart thing any big company can do now is cut out anything that doesn't sell as well as CoD/Battlefield/GTA. And if they can't produce a franchise that does, close the company and give the investors their money back.
Of course customers only win when companies are stupid, profit is mostly determined by the difference of intelligence between the two.
@Kmno I understand that. Keiji Inafune was a large part of Megaman, and I guess they were lost in the process when he resigned. But I'm sure Capcom doesn't do these things to screw the fanbase. Considering how far they were in Legends 3, it must have been a big loss on their part. Universe didn't get great reception after the trailer either, so it wasn't even what fans wanted. I bet those same fans are regretting the fact that they were too picky on Universe.
Capcom, as a whole didn't say that. A PR worker put that on there. And I bet none of the developers ever thought it was a community problem.
As for Xover, you haven't played it. You haven't paid for it, so you really shouldn't care that much of that spinoff game. It's something pretty much unreleased to the community we speak to. And the fanbase made a big deal about it.
Capcom trolls its fans once again...
@theblackdragon agreed there only game out from them im looking at is LostPlanet 3 and 1 (anonced) for PS4 being DeepDown. If Capcom messup the MH games il be done with them thb... RE has been alterd from what it was and is far to simpile now unles thay go back to what RE Revilations was. -off topic ik but why do capcom think a hord = scery/hard? I mean compere it to ZombiU where 1 to 2 Zombies is offten enuff to kill you off and not in the cheepes manner (not counting Gas Zombies lol)
Does anyone know if there are plans to bring this game to the American app store? It seems right up my alley. Also, did anyone else notice the part in the trailer where some of the characters assembled themselves into what looked like a Power Rangers Megazord? O.O
So that's what Capcom is doing nowadays...making ios games! Sigh!!
