Early next year, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will get the chance to sample the latest instalment in the Metal Gear series, with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance arriving on their consoles.
The game is a co-production between Kojima Productions and Platinum Games, and boasts a compelling mixture of sword-play and stealth action. Given the recent release of the Wii U and the large number of cross-platform ports which have happened lately, you might assume that a conversion is on the cards - sadly, it would appear that is not the case.
Producer Yuji Korekado has told Eurogamer that although a PC port could see the light of day, Nintendo's system isn't on the radar at present:
We aren't currently thinking about that. One of the strongest appeals of the Wii U is the GamePad. However, we've constructed Metal Gear Rising so you can fully enjoy the game on the controllers whether it's on the PS3 or the Xbox. So, currently we aren't thinking about Metal Gear Rising on the Wii U.
Given that the Wii U GamePad has two analogue sticks and the same number of buttons as the PS3 and Xbox joypads, we can't help but feel that's a rather weak reason to deny the system its own version, but there you have it.

everysince xbox and microsoft entered the game world gaming for other systems has gone down i hate bill gates
Hmmmmm, this is not a good sign, cant understand why they wont port it over??? so it wont use the game pad so what, wouldnt u want your game on as many platforms as possible???
I didn't even know it was on the Xbox360, so I wasn't expecting it on the Wii U.
Strange argument. It's a bit like not porting to PC because it doesn't use the mouse.
It's more about porting cost and the small install base, probably.
Too bad, "The Twin Snakes" is still my favourite of the series (before it was the original PSX release, of course). But if you don't want my money, Kojima-san, I will surely not force it upon you. But do Keep Snake on the next Smash Bros, ok?
Translation: We can't be bothered to integrate a GamePad feature.
Don't worry Kojima Productions, neither are we.
Thats a shame. I was looking forward to watching 6 hours of Metal Gear cutscenes on the gamepad
Just use the pro controller! Im tired of the same lame excuse
When Kojima Productions isn't interested in the Wii U, you know that something's obviously wrong with the console.
@hityoaZZ What a crap! The more systems there are, the more options we - the gamers - have. The lack of third party support is solely up to Nintendo not making their systems attractive enough.
The honest statement should have been: We're not sure about the Wii U's success and it's installbase, thus it is not profitable for us to invest in a port.
I bet you, if the Wii U sold like TRIPLE in the first week after release than it really sold, there would be plenty more third parties jumping the bandwagon hunting for profit!
Also I blame Nintendo, why didn't the negotiations for third party support start YEARS before the Wii U unveiling? And if they have... poor results.
this is too bad, i was hoping for this. and maybe some GTA V.
@Scollurio, why don't you stop putting all the blame on Nintendo for the laziness of 3rd parties. If you had bothered to check the history of how much consoles sell in the first week of launch the Wii U did very well in comparison. So selling triple was never going to happen.
There's going to be a lot that we don't see on Wii U. Fortunately there will also be a lot on Wii U that you won't find anywhere else, which, I assume, is the reason people buy Nintendo consoles in the first place. At least that's how I look at it. If developers are already making excuses it's probably not a good sign of us seeing major support for this system, but luckilly, Nintendo provides enough quality games that it doesn't matter in the slightest.
No disappointment here... Metal Gear games have always been overrated anyway.
I want games that both use and do not use the gamepad in innovative ways. But no, it's either think of a unique way to use the gamepad or leave Nintendo gamers out of the fun...
Screw the third parties all along, the just don't care !!!
ive seen footage of this and it looks terrible its shocking its a platinum game and all the people comparing it too the core metal gear games thats like saying mario kart is the same as mario galaxy
ive seen footage of this and it looks terrible its shocking its a platinum game and all the people comparing it too the core metal gear games thats like saying mario kart is the same as mario galaxy
I have no interest in this game, it isn't a Metal Gear game to me at all. I'm still holding out for Ground Zeroes to come to the Wii U, it would be perfect for it
@Haxonberik
There's no need to use the pro controller, even. The GamePad has the same buttons.
That is a very weak excuse to not bring a game to the wii u. I love Metal Gear, but I refuse to play another game starring Raiden unless it's a Mortal Kombat
Well then, here's hoping to seeing Bayonetta 2 DESTROY Rising in every category.
I would assume that Kojima Productions nor Platinum Games want to play around with the different architecture of the Wii U, which is why they don't have any plans for a Wii U version of Rising.
The Wii U Pro Controller would work well here.
@hiptanaka I think Hax is referring to the fact that, if they are blaming it on the Gamepad(possibly due to it not having the true traditional controller feel), then they could at least have it support the Pro Controller as well so there's an option to use a more traditional feeling controller.
Wasn't the pro controller made to appeal more to third parties?
You don’t need any super magical Wii U feature for a port, just mirror the video and sound like NSMBU and it would be fine. The GamePad alone has all the buttons and sticks you need. Then you support the Pro controller and you got the same experience that you get on 360/PS3. Lame excuse.
@V8_Ninja
Platinum Games is working on The Wonderful 101 AND Bayonetta 2 for Wii U already, so that whole different architecture excuse simply can't apply here.
MGS3 to the 3DS and the poor sales that followed is most likely the culprit in this dilemma.
@Damien: "Given that the Wii U GamePad has two analogue sticks and the same number of buttons as the PS3 and Xbox joypads, we can't help but feel that's a rather weak reason to deny the system its own version, but there you have it."
And what about the Pro Controller?
That would perfectly match the 360 & PS3 controllers, wouldn't it?
Well, I don't actually care about the lack of multiplatform games on Wii U beacuse I have every other console currently on market, but this can't be good
That's cause for them, the jury's still out on MGS4's inevitable Wii U port (MGS3 took an awful long time to even reach a Nintendo platform)

I have to admit I'm a bit concerned that there seems to be quite a few multi-platform games that aren't being developed for the Wii U. This might just be a slow start for the Wii & hopefully it will sort itself out soon enough.
Just compared the sales figures for three of the biggest exclusives on the Wii, Xbox 360 & the PS3, that's Mario Kart, Halo 3 & MGS4 respectively. Mario Kart sold 32 million copies, Halo 3 12 million copies & MGS4 26 million copies. So even though the Wii wasn't supported very well by third party devs. It had great customer support & the Wii exclusive outstrips the top exclusives of the competition in terms of sales. So even though we may share some concerns over news like this, take hope in the fact that Nintendo will support the Wii U.
I couldn't care less about non-Nintendo games on the Wii U... that's why I got a 360 dammit!
Having no interest in this game is one thing, but not porting it even though there is a perfectly capable controller that can be used is another. Seems like everyone is saying the same thing about the WiiU. Makes no sense to me. Are all these game devs that rich that they don't need my money?
Anyway I also agree with hityoaZZ, to me is seems like the 360 is now the standard for games and that worries me a bit. Man did that system ever luck out...even with the RROD!!!
Okay, Kojima-san. So you literally beg Nintendo to put your character into Smash Bros., and say how much of a ?fan" you are of Nintendo, but you can't even be bothered to release you games on a Nintendo platform. A handheld port of MGS 3 isn't enough.
Snake: Least worthy addition to Smash Bros. ever.
Come on ninty, just buy out platinum games so they can work for you and give you the so called hardcore side of the spectrum
Out of everybody in the industry I would think that Kojima would be MOST on board with Nintendo. All these snubs are getting annoying, but hopefully it's just a matter of numbers and it will change when the install base grows.
This is proof that the industry has just as many hipsters and fanboys that post on the web.
Apparently Platinum can figure out this "complex" system and even make exclusive titles for Wii U but Kojima can't figure out how to map buttons to the GamePad, or give the option for the Pro Controller. There doesn't have to be a Wii U gimmick, just give everyone the option to play your game.
Why you NL!! I almost got my hopes up! ''We aren't thinking about...'' Read are at first..
That's a bad excuse. They have the option to enable the Pro controller for traditional gameplay, not to mention the GamePad is basically a 360/PS3 controller just with a screen. What about Mass Effect 3? Or Assassin's Creed 3? Batman? Those were all designed for the other systems and re-released just fine on the Wii U. This is just an excuse because they don't want to bother porting it over to a Nintendo system. Nintendo has gone out of their way to cater to the 3rd parties and yet they still don't bring their games over. Um, Hello?!
Kojima continues his streak of ignoring Nintendo systems. How is this news?
Yet he begs to get Snake into Brawl.
Ridiculous.
Its times like these im glad I'm a multi console owner. But if the game was available for Wii U I would pick up that version, just to encourage 3rd party support on the system.
I hope The Phantom Pain (cough cough MGS5 cough cough) comes to Wii U.
Kojima barely produced Rising, he has almost no hand in the porting of it. Kojima apparently said if he was going to MAKE a game for the Wii u it would have to be unique. I for one am up for a MGS5 or you know something NEW.
Maybe they're hard-headed like Nintendo and do what their instinct tells them.
It makes perfect sense from a developers standpoint. Development on the game is nearing it's end. Adding another release to the roster would make things much more difficult. Later in the future maybe, but stuff like that is usually unlikely.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for an E3 reveal of a Wii U version with exclusive content.
dont know where biggsydaboss got that mgs4 figure from its way off instead of 26mil try around 5-7 mil the biggest selling game in the series is still the first solid game on psone at around 9mil i do love the series though
@FOREST_RANGER
And Their Instinct Tells Them If Its Not Powerful Enough To Properly Run Launch Games It Sure As Hedge Wont Properly Run Their Game
Konami & Kojima always have excuses for not making their games for Wii U. They also go on about how if they made a game they would use the consoles unique features but end up giving us nothing!
While I get really angry at Konami for their real lack of support for Nintendo home consoles since the days of the N64, it's up to Nintendo to get these games on their system.
Rising was a game that was in big trouble, then Platinum games stepped in to salvage it. I doubt that the Wii U not receiving the game will be much of a loss, especially when Platinum are bringing Bayonetta 2 exclusively to the Wii U.
@molotov
The Wii U is much more powerful than the 360/PS3, games like Trine 2 prove that. Many of the launch ports have not used the system to its full potential though, as they haven't yet really tapped into the GPGPU. Most of the launch games also had short development time (about 8 months to a year instead of the usual 2 to 4 years), so they're pretty impressive to be able to match up to or exceed the other consoles versions. When games are developed side by side the Wii U version should always be the best version and I think we'll start to see that in the next year.
@Molotov Well, that wasn't what I'm guessing, but that may be what's on their thought. I'm just taking what's being said by the producer as the honest truth: maybe the game wasn't made for the gamepad.
Wasn't looking forward to this but I'm curious to find out when will the Wii U have more rated M games for mature players. It seems many are passing on the Wii again and it seems I'll be out 300 bucks.
I think ground zeroes should definitely come to Wii U, but I could care less about this game.
Well, to be fair they're still on the fence with the PC version too. From what I can remember Kojima likes to squeeze all he can out of a system, so maybe a flat out port doesn't sit right with him. You can't really blame a guy for wanting to do a game (and console) justice.
Or it could be Konami putting their foot in the door.
Kojima want perfection and he needs to understand a new console. The games he does for every console are not and will never be done during the first year of it's release.
He's just like that.
I think the last great MGS game was released on the PS 2, they have really gone downhill and are just plain weird now. The critics just love a game that's pretty, regardless how crappy the story and gameplay are.
I wouldn't have mind a port of this,shame.
Still I've got me MGS3 on 3DS,brilliant game is that/
@CaPPa
The GPU Is Like 1.3x More Powerful Than The PS3... While The CPU Is Less Than Half.... Please Do The Math. And Trine 2 Doesnt Prove Anything. Especially Since Its A Tiny (Graphics Laden) Game..
And SHORT DEVELOPMENT TIME.. Are You SERIOUS?? The Games They PORTED (Takes Less Than 6 Months For Big Games) Ran Awful On The Wii U (Except Ninja Gaiden). The Games They Made Specifically For The Wii U (Not Many There, Even Pikmin Was Made For The Wii) Like Zombie U Arent Full Fledged Games.
black ops 2 looks great, a developer, decides what they want based on many things including user base.
Why can't they work with Nintendo to offer a Pro Controller pack in, just like GoldenEye did with the Wii Pro Controller. This would allow them to port the game without much re-working of the controls, thus reducing costs. The fact is, they're not sure on ROI due to it being a new system without much history to rely on with games in this class.
Hello!? Pro Controller?!
@Magnet_Man018 That's exactly what I was thinking. It's easy to tell they're just making an excuse not to port it over. It's sad that developers aren't willing to take a chance on the WIi U and if these kind of excuses keep up, Wii U will just be another Wii: lack of third party support. I hope developers wisen up and give the Wii U a fair shake. It's a lot more powerful and capable than it looks.
@Molotov - The ports were not horrible. They simply did not run perfectly since they were not designed for Wii U. And how are games like ZombiU not full-fledged games? Pikmin 3 was originally intended for Wii, but it was shifted entirely over to Wii U, meaning that it will look and feel entirely like Wii U game. I think you need to check your facts.
Nintendo was always a company who's best games were 1st party games. I didn't buy the Wii U for games I could buy on the PS3, I bought it for the games that I couldn't.
@ElMastero Who needs games the wii u has a great browser thats all we need
